Blackboard Collaborate Ultra is web-based application that you dont have to install any software to join a session. Be aware, this synchronous communication will require participants log into virtual room at the same time. Some students might not be able to do so. Instructor could offer as optional communication approach, and record the session to share with students who couldn’t attend, as needed. Here’s how to create a session in Blackboard as instructor: 1. Get into your Blackboard course, and choose any course content area which has these four tab in it. 2. Mouse over to Tools > Blackboard Collaborate Ultra 3. The Create Blackboard Collaborate Ultra page shows up. Give the session name and type description if needed or attach the file and then click submit button! 4. You will a notification at the top of page and the new created Collaborate Ultra link will show as the last item in that course content page. In this way, you create a Collaborate Ultra link in your course content area for students access to the session easily!

Using Blackboard Collaborate Ultra to Host Virtual Office Hours

Blackboard Collaborate is a real-time video conferencing tool that lets you add files, share

applications, and use a virtual whiteboard to interact. Blackboard Collaborate Ultra is web-based

application that you don’t have to install any software to join a session.

Be aware, this synchronous communication will require participants log into virtual room at the

same time. Some students might not be able to do so. Instructor could offer as optional

communication approach, and record the session to share with students who couldn’t attend, as

needed.

Here’s how to create a session in Blackboard as instructor:

1. Get into your Blackboard course, and choose any course content area which has these four tab

in it.

2. Mouse over to Tools > Blackboard Collaborate Ultra

3. The Create Blackboard Collaborate Ultra page shows up. Give the session name and type

description if needed or attach the file and then click submit button!

4. You will a notification at the top of page and the new created Collaborate Ultra link will show as

the last item in that course content page.

In this way, you create a Collaborate Ultra link in your course content area for students access to the

session easily!

5. By clicking the session link, you will be taken to the Collaborate Ultra page. Click Create Session

button, and set up the session by following the images listed below. We recommend you set up

session as No End so you can re-use the same session in long term. Please make sure you click

Save button once you finish any changes.

6. Click the session name you just created and click Join Session. This will open Blackboard

Collaborate application.

7. The following images will show you how to use this application. Click My Settings icon, you

could upload your profile image and set up your away status. And also you could set up your

camera and microphone input devices and adjust notification settings. Share Audio/Share

Video icon allow you turn on/off microphone and webcam. Students could use Raise Hand to

get your attention. Open Collaborate Panel at the right bottom corner will allow you to share

content, chat and see participants list (see bulletin 9 later).

8. After you click Open Session Menu, you could find Start Recording session and other options

(image below). There will be a small recording icon at the top of left corner showing you the

session is being recorded. Click Open Session Menu again, you could Stop Recording.

9. After you click Open Collaborate Panel button, you should be able to see Chat, Attendees, Share

Content and My Settings icons. You can promote participants from participator to presenter or

moderator in the Attendees list.

10. Share Content is the key feature that you could engage students. You do need use Chrome for

this feature.
