Connecting your camera • Open iPhoto from either the dock of the Applications folder.

• With your camera off, plug the connector on your USB cable into the USB port on the left side of your computer; plug the other connect on your cable into the port on your camera.

• Turn on your camera (your camera should appear under Devices in the iPhoto Source list on the left side of the iPhoto window, the pictures will appear in the viewing area.

Importing your photos

• Type in the name of your event into the Event Name field; your photos will be imported and organized into an Event group of that name.

• Type a description in the Description field.

• Selecting the “Autosplit Events after importing” checkbox will split your photos into several different Events in the iPhoto library if you are importing more than one day’s worth of pictures from your camera.

• If you have already imported pictures from your camera, you may choose to “Hide photos already imported” so that you will only see the new photos in the Import area.

Importing 2• If you want to choose only some of the images on your

camera, you may do so by holding down the Command key as you simultaneously click each photo you want.

• To import all your photos, click the Import All button. You may stop importing your photos at any time by clicking the Stop Import button.

• Disconnect your camera only when all photos have finished the import process.

• You may also import photos from a CD, DVD, flash drive, file or folder or a memory card.

Viewing Your Photos

• To find your photos:

• In the iPhoto library, you will see photos by clicking Events at the top of the Source list on the left side of the iPhoto window.

• In the library, photos are grouped by year and Event; photos are displayed in the order in which they were imported. Clicking Last Import will display only your most recent import.

Organizing Your Photos• To sort your photos:

• Select Photos from the Source list

• Choose View > Sort Photos then one of the options from the submenu

• By Date: arranges photos by the date they were taken

• By Keyword: arranges photos alphabetically by keyword you assigned

• By Title: arranges photos alphabetically by titles

• By Rating: arranges photos by rating (lowest to highest) if you have rated them by your favorites)

Organizing 2• To create a photo album:

• Click the Add (+) button on the bottom left corner of the iPhoto window

• Click the Album button in the dialog and type the name for your album, click Create

• Click Events in the Source list then double click the Event you want to open

• Drag photos from the Event to your new album (you can also drag a photo from one album to another album , CD, DVD, or other location on your hard disk or network)

• To create an album from a folder of photos in the Finder, drag the folder from the Finder to a folder in the iPhoto source list - iPhoto creates a new album with the same name as the original folder and imports all the photos into the library

Creating a Slideshow• Select the photos you want to include in a slideshow

• to use an album, choose it from the Source list

• to use an Event, choose it from the Source list

• to select particular photos from an album or your library, hold down the Command key as you click each photo you want

• Click the Add (+) button in the bottom left corner of the iPhoto window

• Click the Slideshow button in the dialog (button) bar at the top

• Type a name for your slideshow, then click Create - your new slideshow will appear in the Source list on the left

• You can change the order of the photos by clicking and dragging them into the order you want them to appear

• To start your slideshow, click the Play button; to stop it, click anywhere on the screen; to pause it press your spacebar; or to exit out of it press the ESC button on your keyboard

Slideshow Options• To change how long each slide will display (duration):

• Select your slideshow from the Source list; the iPhoto window changes to slideshow view

• Click the Settings button in the bottom right corner of the slideshow window

• In the Settings dialog, click the arrows next to “seconds” to change the time to display each photo during the slideshow

• To choose the effects of how one photo changes to the next (transition):

• With your slideshow selected from the Source list, click the Settings button in the bottom right corner

• Choose a transition from the pop-up menu (default is dissolve)

• Choose the transition duration using the speed slider; choose the size of the photos; the Ken Burns Effect, and if the show will automatically repeat (loop)

• To add background music:

• With your slideshow selected from the Source list, click the Music button in the bottom right corner

• You may choose instrumentals and other effects from GarageBand, or songs or playlists from iTunes; Click OK

Additional Features• Create a photo book using iPhoto - printed pages showcasing your most special

pictures (including text) that you can print in color, order as a bound book or use as a basis for a more creative slideshow

• Use your Web Gallery to share your photo albums online so friends and family can view, download, print, or upload their own to share with you.

• Edit and add special effects including cropping, color correction, retouching, blurred edges, etc.

for training.

• Create wall calendars using your photos and even adding text.

• Create personal greeting cards, invitations, postcards, or blank cards.

• Create your own website or blog by sending your photo albums from iPhoto to iWeb, Apple’s web publishing application.
