Flipper ShowcaseHaving received a digital SLR camera for a previous birthday the aim of this blog is to showcase some of

my better prints . Created through a template, I have been able to build on my skills in HTML and CSS whilst improving photo editing techniques.

WhatGraduateTimes are tough for students soon to graduate, being a graduate I know just how difficult it is to find a job. This blog provides first hand advice from a soon to be graduate. Topics include internships, how to

make yourself different to employers and the best way to get attracted by companies.

The Flipper BlogThe flipper blog provides insightful analysis into day to day affairs news articles. The blog has led me to become commercially savvy and has allowed me to write blogs which are not just interesting but also

informative to others.

Page 12: Using my Initiative

This is blog that I wrote as a guest blogger for “Wexo”. Wexo is a work experience portal for young students looking to further their careers. In the blog I wrote how Wexo had helped me to secure a couple of

placements and also highlighted my opinions for future graduates looking for a job.

N James Ormerod is a Professional Golfer at South Winchester Golf Club. He approached me, as he wanted a website to promote his golf tuition

services. I was only to happy to oblige and within a couple of days I had drew up a structured content plan and got to work.

I had regularly contact with James and was fully involved with him in the decisions. In the end he was very satisfied with the website and

hopes he gain new contacts with his site.

VoucherJames runs different promotions throughout the year. I decided to create a voucher download system

whereby visitors to his site could receive special offers. Once completed with the relevant details James could use this information for further use such as newsletters.

It was decided in late 2010, that Jamesormerodgolf was to be reinstated, after the inability of the client to customise update and modify the existing template, as a blog format.

This suited the client better as he could now comment and write feature article on the state of golf whilst having full access to his unique domain name.

We believe our client now has access to freely amend, change and customise his own website.

We would like to wish James every success in the future and would like to thank him for his courageous input in this process. We wish him well with his blogging career.

Testimonial"Alistair provided me with a golfing website, I needed a website to grow my current

contact base in the area, with the skills and experience he had

already, he proved to me that this could be done. I had regular meetings with him about the project including information

about structured content and in the end we reached a winning solution that suited me. I wish

him good luck in the future with any further website design

projects and would thoroughly recommend him to anyone

looking for an affordable & quality designed website”

WEB

SITE

This is a website that I designed by myself. A website is a great tool for advertising yourself and increasing your online presences. I use my website to publish links to my blog, details about my current education, a portfolio of work I have carried out, work experience and details on how you can contact me. This website creation has given me an understanding of HTML and design. I have carried this through to a new client’s website for professional golf tuition.

eFrom my experience within the Hospitality industry, during the summer of 2010 I put it to good use. The aim of the business

was to assist and help serve drinks at garden parties in my local area.

Alistair Dolphin [email protected]

To gain more enquiries I designed an A4 poster campaign and put 6 posters up in neighbouring villages. I charged £10 per hour and on occasions I had to source local employment within the area to help if I needed more staff for events.

This portfolio describes a bit more about the business including testimonals of what some of my clients have said

about my service and also some of the promotional tools that I used.

I started off by designing a small A5 leaflet and delivered that to 50 houses around where I lived. I got 8 responses to the leaflet for enquiries just over 10% return.

I made over £400 over 8 garden parties. This resulted in an average of £50 for each one.

“I thought you and Lisa were absolutely brilliant.  You were both so professional and made our party go so smoothly.  Nothing was too much trouble for either of you.  Thank you very much.  Everyone was very impressed by your professionalism and courteousness and I will certainly give you a ring when we have another party.”

“Alistair did two drinks catering events for me. Thank you so much for your wonderful help yesterday. It made such a difference as we were able to relax and enjoy our friends company. Everywhere was very tidy in the kitchen and dining room. Many thanks.

This is an example of the leaflet that I used to advertise the service on

offer. I delivered this to over fifty addresses within m

y local area

“We had a lunch party for approximately 40 people. Alistair not only fixed and served drinks but also came up with great suggestions about how to organise the day.  He just got on and did everything without waiting to be asked which contributed to a lovely day. I would recommend Alistair and hope to use him again soon.”

This is the poster I designed including contact details. I put these around the local area in which I live. I put six posters

in total to advertise our drinks catering service.

“Thank you very much for helping to make our celebrations so special. From the moment you arrived, you took control and worked tirelessly throughout the evening. It was especially reassuring to see that everyone was being well looked after and we have received so many lovely comments about you. The icing on the cake was that you cleared away at the end of the evening, leaving us little to do the next morning. Thank you both very much once again”

Car Boot Sales

Numerous car boot sale schemes have created opportunities to make money. I was selling a

mixture of books, cd’s and household items which I didn’t have a use for anymore.

Due to the current climate people prefer to buy second hand rather than directly from the shops. Car boot sales are great opportunities for people

to do this.

Through the course of my placement year I made an estimated £250 from four car boot sales.

Averaging £62.50 at each car boot.

*This is a picture of me, at one of the car boot sales in the rain*

Page 25: Using my Initiative

Over the past year I have become an EBay seller. Using items which I no longer need or have no use for, I will put them up for auction on eBay.

This auction site has given me an insight into selling products and during the year from September 2009 – 2010 have made an estimated £1,100 from the site.

I have put an account on PayPal and you can see a track record of payments from the past 3 months overleaf.

Once I sell something a buyer can comment on the overall experience using feedback rating.

Having started the year on a feedback score of 10, I have since grown to 59. With a positive average feedback score from the past 12 months of 100%. Gaining this positive feedback hopefully I can transfer into a commercial sales environment.

These are just a few examples of the types of feedback customers have left behind.

“Great thanks will use again” –

“Excellent item fast delivery thanks A+++++++++”

I have a social presence on micro blogging site “Twitter”. I use this site as a place to publish my opinions and recent news articles I have found interesting. I also use it to advertise my personal blog. I have 35 followers and I am following over

60 people relating to new media, business and sport profiles.
