Objective

By the end of this you will be able to:

• Create slides through the use of an ICT package and a CAD package of key steps involved in creating a drawing

Using PowerPoint

• To create slides we are going to use Microsoft Office PowerPoint

• Double click on the PowerPoint icon to open it

Using PowerPoint

• The previous slide shows the open window of PowerPoint

• Its operating features are very similar to Word and Excel i.e. saving, inserting pictures is the same

Using PowerPoint

• The first thing you should do is chose an appropriate background for your slides

Using PowerPoint

To do this

• Select the “Format” menu and then select “Slide Design”

Using PowerPoint

• This will open a new menu in the PowerPoint window showing a list of possible designs that you can chose for your slides (See next slide)

Using PowerPoint

Using PowerPoint

• To chose one of these designs simply click on it to add it as your design

Additional Page Design

Cover Page design

Using PowerPoint

• Once you have made your selection click on the X on this “Slide Design” menu to close the menu

Using PowerPoint

You will now need to add more slides to your presentation

Click on the “Insert” menu and select “New Slide”

Using PowerPoint

• This will also open a new menu in the window where you can apply a layout to the slide

• To chose one click on it and this will then apply to that slide

• Alternatively use the shortcut key Ctrl +M

Using PowerPoint

• Possible layouts:– Text Only– Title and text– Content Only i.e. graphs, tables, clipart– Title, text and content– Title, text and clipart

Using PowerPoint

• When complete click on the X again to close the menu

Using PowerPoint

NB:

• The layout you chose will only apply to the slide you are working on

• You will need to change the layout if desired for each slide separately after this again

Using PowerPoint

• To insert text to a slide click where its says “Click to add title/ text” and type in the words you want

Using PowerPoint

• To insert pictures, clipart, movies, etc… use the insert menu and then select the feature you want to insert

Using PowerPoint

Using PowerPoint

• Once you have your slides created with the necessary text and images you can apply an animation to the presentation

• To start using this click on the “Slide Show” menu and then select “Animation Schemes”

Using PowerPoint

• This will open the a new menu window in screen

Using PowerPoint

• It is here you can select the various animations for each slide

• To apply an animation click on the name of the animation

• If you want an animation to apply to all slides in the presentation then press “Apply to All Slides” at the bottom of the menu window

Using PowerPoint

• You can also change the transition of the slides

• To do this follow the same procedure for animating but select “Slide Transition” in the “Slide Show” menu

Using PowerPoint

• To animate images you need to select “Custom Animation” from the “Slide Show” menu

• This will open a new menu window

• Click on the image and select the “Add Effect” tab in the menu window to select the effect you want to apply to the image

Using PowerPoint

Using PowerPoint

• Once the chosen effect is applied, it is possible to change the order of the animation by using the appropriate “Re-Order” tabs at the bottom of the window

Using PowerPoint

• To view your slideshow Select “View Slideshow” from the “Slide Show” menu

• Or press “F5” on your keyboard

Now you try!

• Using Microsoft PowerPoint create a series of slides on how to create a drawing in SolidWorks

• To do this I recommend that you use print screen to insert images into PowerPoint or save the images as a JPEG from SolidWorks
