We work with Primary 4 (8 years old) and upwards. Initially we deliver general anti-racism workshops, and build on these with extension workshops such as combatting racism towards asylum seekers and refugees and Islamophobia.

• All teaching packs are in line with the curriculum For Excellence.

‘Coherent, flexible, enriched curriculum for 3-18 years old’

The educational work/resources delivered and produced by Show Racism the Red Card by their very nature mirror this process of learning because they

aim to build a sphere of reference/knowledge/experience that a young person can draw upon by providing access to educational opportunities

where a young person can begin to question their perceptions/attitudes/values and assumptions alongside their peers in a

safe environment free of judgement

• All the teaching materials include guidelines of how to tailor the workshops depending on what stage of the Curriculum For Excellence your group fits into

• Simply put, lessons can be planned with Primary 4 right up to all secondary stage pupils

Racism/Islamophobia/Sectarianism

• Affects of racism/injustice – How would you feel

• Recognise its causes – Influence from external environment, parents/ peers. Assumptions and stereotypes.

• How do we challenge racism/injustice – Moving forward, don’t ignore it, burden on the perpetrator, challenge negativity

What is Racism

• The Oxford English dictionary defines Racism as “the hatred of a person of a different race or Ethnic Origin”

Racism is the belief that because people are a different colour, from a different country or part of the world, they are inferior. Racist ideas have developed over thousands of years and have been used to justify the oppression of different groups of people. The slave trade being a classic example of this.

Racism is discrimination based on four things:

1. Colour2. Nationality3. Religion4. Culture

What is...

knowledge, thought or reason• unreasonable feelings, opinions or attitudes, esp. of a hostile nature,

regarding a racial, religious or national groupStereotype• A preconceived or oversimplified generalisation about an entire group of

people without regard for individual differences.
