Using Pixie to support Balanced LiteracyYou can import images as an entire page

Put pictures on your desktopOpen Pixie and drag a picture into the program

- this will open a new page and will automatically make the image the entire page

You can add stickers and text on top of this image

put multiple pictures on a pageExport jpegs into a folder on your desktop, or

create a folder of images on desktopClick stickers tab - click folder iconClick on desktop, find folder, then image- click

openSticker will appear in middle of Pixie page -

move, edit (flip, rotate) - as needed If you want text over the picture, “glue” it down

You can import an import an entire folder and add it to your stickers library

Under the Pixie menu choose PreferencesHighlight Library - check Documents Add>Desktop>highlight folder desired>Choose When you choose stickers option, your folder

will be displayedOther Pixie stickers are now in “Clip Art” folder

Have several documents open (to have different pictures), or several of the same to print multiples (file>duplicate picture)

Creating an ebook in Pixie

Open multiple pictures at once Open - highlight Desktop - find your folder Highlight all pictures in folder - choose open Each picture will open as a different tab at the bottom

Record sound on each Options bar - sound button bottom left No limit on length of recording

Create a folder for the Pixie ebook on desktop - after recording, “Save as” to folder - each page has to be saved separately - put all pages in that folder A tip: if you have taken pictures of a story in sequence,

name your files with a page number. They will open in numeric order. For example: 1farm, 2farm, etc.

Watching an Ebook in Pixie

Open files in ebook folder all at once (see previous slide) - Pixie will show any open files at bottom

Click “Share” Files will have opened in alphabetical or numeric

order - click and drag to rearrange.

Choose “Show” and change any timing, transitions, background sound or music

Click “Start” - as slide comes on screen sound begins

A few other ebook tips

Can also be saved as a QuickTime movie Choose “Themes” if you want pictures to show on a

background You can add speech bubbles to your book characters

- in the “Thought” clip art folder Any of these files can be exported as a jpeg once

created an put in iPhoto or used in a Word document or Powerpoint
