    RAID 0 & RAID 1 Con gurations :

The Sil 3112A chipset supports Serial ATA hard disk drives. For optimal

per ormance, nsta ent ca r ves o t e same mo e an capac ty w en

    creating RAID sets.

    What is RAID 0 & RAID 1?

If you are creating a RAID 0(striping) array for performance, use two new

    drives.

I you are creat ng a RAID1 m rror ng array or protect on, you can use

two new drives or use an existing drive and a new drives (the new drivesmust be of the same size or larger than the existing drive).

If you use two drives with different sizes, the smaller capacity hard disk

will be the base storage size. For example, hard disk A with an 80GB

storage capacity and hard disk B with 60GB storage capacity for your

    RAID1 set w e 60 GB.

Follow these steps to install the hard disks for RAID conguration.

    1. Install the Serial ATA hard disk into the drive bays.

    2. Connect one Ser a ATA HDD to eac Ser a ATA connector, us ng separate

    serial ATA cables.

    3. Connect the power cable to the power connector on each drive.

    4. Proceed to Creating and Deleting Raid sets for the next procedure.

unit of storage equivalent to one strip on a RAID 0 set. Available chunk

    sizes:

When manually setting the chunk size for your RAID, it is recommended

to use the smaller chunk size for server applications and the larger chunk

    size for AV applications.

    Resolving Conict

When a RAID set is created the metadata written to the disk includes drive

connect on n ormat on Pr mary C anne , Secon ary C anne . I a ter a sfailure, the replacement disk was previously part of a RAID set (or used in

another system), it may have conicting metadata, specically in reference to

the drive connection information if so, and this will prohibit the RAID set from

being either created or rebuilt. In order for the RAID set to function properly,

this old metadata must be rst overwritten with the new metadata, including the

correct drive connection information, will be written to the replacement disk.
