INTRODUCTION
Tasek is located in Pengkalan Hulu district in the state of Perak. The two nearby
towns to Tasek are Pengkalan Hulu which is 6km away and Baling 18km away. The
place is very hilly and considered to be one of the highest places in the sense that
when there is a flood in Tasek, it might affect the whole of Kedah. It was named
Tasek because of the natural lake Tasek which is in the village. The lake is usually
used for fishing and sometimes it dries up.
The place is famous for its D24 durian as it considered as the best. Apart from
that they practice small scale agriculture in their orchard for their own consumption
where the grow bananas, durian, mangosteen, rambutan, (mostly local fruits).
In between 1950 to 1953 the number of Chinese and Siamese was
approximately 100 for each group, but due to migration, more and more Siamese
moved in. also during the emergency period residents from Naka migrated to Tasek
making it be populated. The current census is as follows;
1. Chinese : 210++
2. Indian : 60 – 70
3. Siamese : 1,000-2,000

INFRASTRUCTURE
There is only one clinic in the village known as Klinik Bidan. The clinic has
one medical assistant. The clinic is used as a maternity clinic as well as basic medical
checkups for kids as well as performing diabetes patient injection. There is no
hospital in the village but the nearest hospital is in Baling which is approximately

and every household has electricity. The municipal council is responsible for waste
disposal and ensures the village is clean. All houses do use flush toilets for their
sewage disposal
Telecommunication services are provided by Telekom Malaysia (TM), Digi
and Celcom. However, majority of the community use Celcom as the reception is
more stable. Digi reception is very poor hence many people ignore using it.

The main source of transport are mainly bicycles, foot and personal cars as the
area is hilly hence not suitable for buses to go in the village. It is considered to be the
highest area and hence when flooded the whole of Kedah might be affected. The area
also has different shops.

PROBLEMS
The main problems in the areas are:
1. Poor Drainage
2. No Street Lights in the area.
3. No place for old people to rest. This is important as most of the young people
go to towns to work hence the place has quite a number of old people who
need place to walk and exercise as well.
4. Lack of enough teachers in the nearby school
5. Place usually affected with Indonesia air plan.

RECOMMENDATIONS
1. The area has Gua Gendang which is a cave, this can be used as an
entrepreneurship activity whereby they can develop it like Gua Temperung
and ensure that people can go for sightseeing. Just beside the cave they can
also construct a campsite for people who like exploring caves. Hence it will be
a source of income.
2. The Songkran festival which is celebrated yearly can be a source of income
for the locals where they can have a special hall where tourists can pay before
entering into the village for that particular celebration. Since many locals
won’t have opportunity to go to Thailand to see this festival, it will be a good
tourist attraction.
3. The village can practice having home stays, as many people are not aware of
how Siamese live, so by having home stays, it will be sources of income as
well as making other communities understand how the locals in that village do
live.
