THIS SUNDAY! Mark your

calendars. We will kick off our pledge campaign this year at our October Pledge Potluck on October 21st. Our congregational meeting this year will be December 9th after the service. A preliminary budget will be available as well as 2019 pledge forms. The final budget will be voted on at our congregational meeting in December. Submitted by Dianne Whitaker, [email protected].

Please pick up your 2019 pledge letter and forms. The envelopes are alphabetized on the table by the closet doors. The envelope contains a pledge form, a form for volunteering and a draft 2019 budget. Please fill out both forms and return by mail or in the collection plate. It is important that we have updated information as we are finding many phone numbers and e-mails have changed. Thank you for your support

of OUUF.

A BIG THANK YOU to all who have paid or who are paying monthly their pledge for 2018. If you can dig a little deeper before the end of the year, the board voted to start a well fund for the digging of a new well. If you want to contribute write "well fund" on the memo line of your check or if giving cash put in an envelope labeled well fund. Submitted by Dianne Whitaker, mailto:[email protected].

Chalice Lighters Fall 2018-2019 Call: Help put a new roof on the UUCCWC parish house! Members of the flourishing Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Washington County (UUCCWC) in Hillsboro, Oregon raised funds to make needed improvements to their 1910 sanctuary. Those funds had to be diverted to cover flood damage and replace a failed sewer line. Now the roof on their multipurpose parish building is leaking.

The amount PNWDCL asks individuals to pledge is $20, but they are grateful for any amount you can contribute. Your gifts will be accepted for this call through November 19. To make your payment online to PNWD Chalice Lighters. You are encouraged to sign up for emailed call letters and to use electronic payments to lower our administrative costs.

Note: For your convenience you can donate to all three of this year’s calls at the same time if you choose to do so online. You will not receive call letters for calls to which you have already donated.

If mailed, please send your check, payable to PNWD Chalice Lighters to: PNWD Chalice Lighters, 7511 Greenwood Avenue North, #414, Seattle, WA 98103-4627. Please include the PNWD-CL designation on both your check and payment envelope.

OUUF will hold an orientation for new Members and Friends following the regular service on Oct. 28.

We will gather in the Sanctuary after the coffee hour. The session will start with an audio-visual presentation about Unitarian Universalism, its history, and the development of Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. The presentation, drawn largely from Vivian Mulligan’s sermon of last summer, will last about 30 minutes.

Jim Casey, Outreach/Membership Manager, will lead the meeting and answer questions after the presentation. Other key Members of the Fellowship may join him. Contact James Casey, Membership Coordinator at [email protected] with questions.

The session is open to everyone but is aimed at those who recently have joined OUUF or have become regular attenders. Pledge forms will be available.

From your Social Justice Taskforce:Yesterday (October 10) the Trump Administration published proposed changes to Dept. of Homeland Security's immigration rules about "public charge"; the changes would greatly undercut efforts to fight hunger and poverty by making it harder for immigrant families to access a range of nutrition, health, and housing benefits that are essential to our nation's health and well-being. The proposed sweeping new rule redefines long-standing policy that determines "public charge" for immigrants, fundamentally changing who would be able to enter and stay in the U.S.  In short, the rule says that a

lawfully-residing immigrant who receives assistance from SNAP, Medicaid, Medicare Part D, or Section 8 housing could be deemed a "public charge" and denied permanent resident status and denied the ability to stay in the U.S. This rule would endanger the lives of immigrant families who live here legally, including immigrant families with American-citizen family members. When nearly 1 in 4 children in our country have at least one immigrant parent, this issue touches tens of millions of people. Under the proposed rule, immigrant families would be forced to make impossible choices between accessing vital programs that safeguard their health, nutrition, housing, and economic security and keeping their family together in the U.S. The time for public comment is now. The comment period closes December 10. The Faith Action Network to which we belong has a unique faith portal to use http://bit.ly/FANopposesPublicChargeRulePlease add your voice as we are supporting our brothers and sisters.

Poll: 1631 has Big Oil on the ropes! This Elway poll has some good news for making carbon polluters accountable:h ttps://crosscut.com/2018/10/poll-nations-first- carbon-fee-leading-among-votersThis poll shows that: 1) I-1631 is leading among voters, and it’s clear that Washingtonians don’t trust big oil despite their $21 million in fancy advertising.

2) This election is going to be close, but we CAN win and defeat big oil and their money.

 3) Undecided voters will come down to who they trust, and every conversation we have with our neighbors, our friends, and at the doors we knock on is essential to help us win. This is a moment for us all to step up.  We have a lot of work to do in the next 25 days to connect with voters and remind them of the vision we all share for this state. With your help and all of our hard work, we can do this!We can’t do this without YOU. Here are some of the ways you can help: Volunteer door knock – It is powerful democracy in action!  Big Oil is already spending more than $20 million to defeat us, but we have the Power of the People.  Please sign up for a shift here.Calling voters who might need a nudge to vote – this is a huge priority for the campaign, and we need lots of help. We need to ensure these registered voters turn in their ballots. Here is the link for you to schedule yourself for a phonebanking shift (Human-to-human calls are a very powerful tool!) Here is the link to our dialer toolkit.  If you want to call from downtown Seattle this link has all of Washington Environmental Council’s phone banks for 1631, Sunday-Thursday.Texting – We are doing texts to help Get Out the Vote. You can sign up for a texting shift here.Small Business Endorsements -Do you know a small business owner you can ask? Maybe your favorite coffee shop? If you get a yes, be sure to fill out this form and we can get them a sign for their window. If you want to help in a more substantial way by volunteering full or part time for the campaign, let me know! Or if you can host an organizer from out of town, please sign up here.Go here to learn more about the YES on 1631 campaign, and its endorsers. We Can. We Must. We Will!
