ON THE BALLOTOn the local front, those
voting in the Republi-can runoff election will determine which Republi-can candidate, either Otto Arnim or Ruben Nolasco, moves forward as a con-tender for Uvalde County Sheriff. The victor in the runoff will face Demo-cratic nominee Miguel “Mike” Hernandez in November.
Those in Precincts 3 and 4 will choose the Precinct 3 county constable between incumbent Jim Mangum and county investigator Robert “Bob” Cook. Since the Democratic Party did not field a candidate, the winner will hold the office.
At the state level, Repub-lican candidates Raul Reyes and Tony Gonza-les are vying to see who faces Democrat Gina Ortiz Jones for the office of U.S. Representative for Texas’ 23rd Congressional Dis-trict. Incumbent Will Hurd opted not to seek re-elec-tion.
On the ballot for those voting in the Democrat Party primary will be a choice between Royce West and Mary “MJ” Hegar for the office of U.S. Senator. The winning candidate will face Republican incumbent John Cornyn in November.
Democrats Xochil Peña Rodriguez and Roland Gutierrez are contesting for the position of Texas State Senator for District 19, and the winner will face Republican incumbent
Peter P. “Pete” Flores. For the office of state
railroad commissioner, Chrysta Castañeda will face fellow Democratic candidate Roberto R. “Beto” Alonzo. The runoff winner will then take on Republican candidate James “Jim” Wright, who bested incumbent Ryan Sitton in the March pri-mary election.

Real estate trends for the second quarter of 2020 in Uvalde County indicate that fewer people are sell-ing their homes and fewer people are buying homes.
House hunters in Uvalde County had fewer houses to choose from with a more than 22-percent decrease in the number of active listings from this same time period last year. There were 99 active list-ings for this second quar-ter.
The decrease in active listings was matched by a decrease in closed
sales, which totaled 36. That number reflects a 16-percent decline in the second quarter of 2020, but the price of housing increased.
According to a year-over-year analysis of the Uvalde County housing market performed by The Texas A&M University Real Estate Center, the median price of Uvalde County’s housing saw a slight rebound, to $179,500 up from $159,900 in the second quarter of 2019.
Data also indicates that real estate transac-tion times, including the number of days a property was on the market and the number of days to close a transaction, are very similar to this same time period last year.
In the second quarter of 2020, houses were on the market for about 110 days, two days more than in the second quarter of 2019.
It took 29 days to close a transaction in the second quarter of 2020, compared to 27 in 2019.
More than 60 percent of the houses sold this past quarter were in the $100-$300K price range, sell-ing at a median price per square foot of $89.43. The price per square foot is down 12.3 percent from the same period last year.
Homeowners received more than 90 percent of their asking price, a trend holding steady from the first quarter of 2020, when homeowners received 88.1 percent of their original list price.
Fewer people opting to sell, buy homes
