JUDAS ISCARIOT,
THE BETRAYER OF THE LORD
Judas Iscariot had a great beginning and a terrible ending!
Here are some facts from scripture about Judas Iscariot.
1. Judas was chosen by the Lord to be one of His apostles. The Lord had prayed all night
before choosing the twelve-see Luke 6:12-16.
2. At one time, Judas was in a saved condition, but he fell by transgression.
“Those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that
the scripture might be fulfilled”-John 17:12. The word “lost” (apoleto) is the same word as is used
in Luke 15: 24 & 32 to refer to the prodigal son. The astute reader will determine from those
scriptures that one who is “lost spiritually,” is also “dead spiritually!” When Judas was selected,
he was obviously in a saved state, but he fell from there into a lost state because of transgression!
“That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place”-Acts 1:25.
The famed Baptist scholar, A. T. Robertson makes this comment on Acts1:25, “A bold and
picturesque description of the destiny of Judas worthy of Dante’s Inferno. There is no doubt in
Peter’s mind of the destiny of Judas nor of his own guilt. He made ready his own berth and went
to it”-Word Pictures in the New Testament, III, pg. 18.
3. More than a year before Judas betrayed Jesus, the Lord said of him, “Have I not chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil (diabolos)”-John 6:4 & 70. At this point, Judas was so totally
under Satan’s control that the Lord called him “a devil!”
4. “This he (Judas) said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had
the bag, and bare away (imperfect active) what was put therein”-John 12:6. From this statement
we learn that Judas was treasurer for the Lord and his apostles, and that his habit was to pilfer
from the treasury!
5. From Luke 22:3 and John 13:2, we learn that the previous Saturday before the Lord’s crucifixion,
Satan had persuaded Judas to betray the Lord!
6. Paul says in Ephesians 4:27, “Neither give place to the devil.” We’ve all heard the expression, “If you give him an inch, he’ll take a mile!” That old cliché is especially applicable to the devil. It
was the practice of covetousness that finally caused Judas to betray the Lord for thirty pieces of
silver. Afterwards, he went out and disgraced himself even further by committing suicide.
7. All of the sins of Judas that finally led to his betraying the Lord could have been stopped by
his refusing to yield to Satan!!
Christians must resist the devil so he will flee from us-James 5:7. God bless, Boyce.

or to receive encouragement, please see Gaylen or Nichole
Williams.
Often when I am in conversation with
someone who is having a hard time of
things and seems to be in deep despair,
I encourage them to think of something
pleasant.
Much despair is brought on because
we center our thinking too much on
self. Look at the words of inspiration in
Philippians 4:8:
"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things
are true, whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just, whatsoever
things are pure, whatsoever things are
lovely, whatsoever things are of good
report; if there be any virtue, and if
there be any praise, think on these
things."
Charles Kingsley said: "If you want to
be miserable think about yourself,
about what you want, what you like,
what respect people ought to pay you
and what people think of you."
Now, that is great advice. I often find
myself all wrapped up in me; how bad
I feel; how lonely I am; or, why do others
treat me that way!
You've been there, haven't you. We
really do spent too much time on self.
As Paul declared, we need to channel
our thoughts on good things.
As we look at some things that will
help with this mental attitude, I hope
we can find help in this troubled world.
First, consider whom we serve: Often
when I am thinking of self, I remember
the words of Simon Peter about Christ:
"Who did no sin, neither was guile
found in His mouth; who, when he was
reviled, reviled not again; when He
suffered, He threatened not; but
committed Himself to Him that judges
righteously"-I Peter 2:22 & 23. In
Psalm 100:2, we read: "Serve the Lord
with gladness: come before Him with
singing."
Jesus said: "God is Spirit: and they
that worship Him must worship Him in
spirit and in truth" -John 4:24.
Often, we fail to remember that we are
here to serve Him. We let self get in
the way too many times. What if
someone does pass you by and
speaks not to you? What if they ignore
you, or at least, you think they do?
Remember how the Lord was treated.
Focus on the one whom we serve. If
your enemy hungers feed him, Jesus
said. Shouldn't that hold true when
you are mistreated? Just return that
ill-treatment with a smile. Turn the
other cheek.
Second: Persevere: Hang In There.
You are tougher than that! Don't let
anything rob you of your inheritance.
It isn't worth the worry spent on some
who want to bully their way through
life. You have too much ahead of you
than to spend time on things that
matter little.
Hang in there. Ask God for help.
Spend time on reaching out to others
instead of reaching in to self.
I have known folks who cried: "Nobody
at that church likes me. I have no
friends!"
First, you reach out to them!
To have friends, you must show
yourself friendly. Give a helping hand
to another soul.
Christ went about doing good (Acts
10:38), even while they spoke against
Him!
Third: Fill your thoughts on good
things: Don't allow your mind to spend
time on criticism. Be a mind full of
good things.
Live Christ!
