I am currently the General Manager at the Port Credit Yacht Club where I continue to strive to-wards being my personal best. Working to en-sure that the club’s membership and staff are happy is an intricate balancing act, but one that is worth the investment. I have spent the past 26 years of my career in the Private Club industry. Beginning a part time job in Kingston, Ontario back to Vancouver Is-land and back to Ontario again. I have been in-volved in opening 2 new clubhouses, and assist-ed in designing the program for a third which was ultimately completed after I left the Club, but stands proud today. Prior to the PCYC I found my way to VGM Club Canada as the Vice President, Club Services. While this position was both interesting and challenging, I longed for the Private Club envi-ronment, making my way to PCYC. I received my CCM designation in January of 2010 for which I am very proud. I would recom-mend anyone who is serious about excelling as a manager or other top position within a club pursue this education through the CSCM. This is a challenge well worth investing in for the ad-vancement of your career.

My personal goals include seeing a NHL game in every current city - only 1 left to go - (until a team returns to Quebec City). Go Bruins! Q. From which single individual have you learned the most in your life? What did they teach you? A. It’s hard to say who has influenced me most. What have I learned lately? Dream like you’re going to live forever. Live like you’re going to die tomorrow. Make a list of things you want to do in life, personally and professionally. Do them. Don’t make excuses not to. The first, and longest-standing, private clubs in Canada include: The Toronto

Club (1835), The Toronto Hunt Club (1843), The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Toronto (1845/46), The Halifax Club (1862), Rideau Club in Ottawa (1865), The Royal Montreal Golf Club (1873), Royal Quebec Golf Club (1874), The National Club in Toronto (1874), the Manitoba Club in Winnipeg (1875), Toronto Golf Club (1876), The Montreal Amateur Athletic Associ-ation (1881), The Albany Club in Toronto (1882), Calgary’s Ranchmen’s Club (1891), Vancouver Club (1893), and the Mount Roy-al Club in Montreal (1899/1900).

Proudly supporting the IFDS Recently the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron the hosted the IFDS Worlds 2014. The International Foundation for Disabled Sailing (IFDS) had sailors from 25 countries racing against each other in the Halifax harbour. Canada’s Sonar team of Paul Tingley, Scott Lutes and Logan Campbell won a silver medal and secured a spot in Rio for the Sonars. Two other Canadians finished off the regatta with a flourish by winning their last races on Sunday. Bruse Millar’s exciting victory in the last race secured a spot for Canada in Rio for the 2.4 mR class, as well as married John McRoberts and Jackie Gay who qualified Canada in the SKUD-18 Class. The Squadron’s primary focus is to encourage and enhance the sport of sailing within its membership and the community. As the oldest yacht club in North America, the RNSYS is the corner stone of the sport of sailing in Halifax, offering programs and hosting events both for experienced sailors and the next generation of upcoming champions. The RNSYS has a legacy of major infrastructure improvements and up-grades, allowing sailors with varying degrees of disability to become com-petitors in their sport. The club is home to SailAble Nova Scotia which pro-vides a program for disabled sailors. The Squadron is committed to foster-ing an environment where members from all walks of life can pursue their passion for sailing. It is in this commitment that the Squadron truly shines; always innovating and improving, while maintaining the traditions that so many members have worked so hard to create. Members, volunteers and staff are dedicated to preserving 177 years of heritage while striving to explore new frontiers. “The RNSYS is proud to be a part of these prestigious events, they are a huge benefit to our Club, City, Province and the sport of sailing.” - Kevin Hurd, RNSYS General Manager.

“Courage

is the discovery

that you may not win,

and trying when

you know you

can lose .”

– Tom Krause

The best showing by a Canadian team at the IFDS Worlds 2014 is by our Sonar team - Paul Tingley, Scott Lutes and Logan Campbell. They won the silver medal in Halifax and secured a place for Canada at the Rio 2016 Paralympics.
