Dear Asbury Family,

March has arrived. May this new month bring us good luck and happiness. Happy New Month!

March Madness! This is the month for the March Madness Tournament for basketball fans! Perhaps many of you noticed a new addition to the Benjamin Godfrey Auditorium – a new double hoop basketball net! It will cal-culate your points and even provide you with feedback on your game! We purchased it for a way to enjoy some-thing new with friends and provide exercise at the same time. Other senior living communities have found it to be a hit! We have received a few unfavorable comments, but please give it a try! You might like it! Now for those of you that are willing to just have fun, enjoy basketball, or may even have a competitive spirit, we decided to have an ALL VILLAGE March Madness Competition. Every Monday for 1 hour, we will host a “shoot out!” in the Benjamin Godfrey Auditorium from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm. Please sign up with a Basketball Buddy (friend, fel-low employee, neighbor, student, retired b-ball player) or sign up as a single player and we’ll match you with your March Madness Basketball Buddy. We’ll have brackets and assign you with a time and date to begin the tournament. We’ll provide more details about the brackets once everyone signs up. We’re planning on the Final Four Playoff on March 30th from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm. Fun and food are sure to be provided. Please consider play-ing with or without any skills. We promise that it will be quite the experience for all! FYI…please feel free to practice in between!! Please see the flyers for more information.

Attention All Pet Owners! A friendly reminder to all pet owners, we will be following up with each of you to ob-tain your paperwork (shot records) regarding your pet. Please refer to our pet guidelines if you are unsure of what is needed. We will be requesting that all paperwork/documentation be submitted to the Wiseman Pollock reception desk by March 31st. In addition, please be reminded that all new pet additions MUST be approved be-fore moving in. Without prior authorization and verification of our pet guidelines, pets may not be permitted to live in our Village.

Annual Illinois Lobby Day! I have been personally invited by the Illinois Leading Age Association to attend Annu-al Lobby Day at the State Capital in Springfield on Wednesday, March 25th. They have made actual appoint-ments to meet our legislators and represent our Senior Living Communities. I haven’t received any details; how-ever, I was hoping that I may be able to ask a few members of our Asbury Village to join me. If interested, please let me know.

Welcome Chaplain Bruce Baumberger! I generated a letter to our Asbury Village Family welcoming Chaplain Bruce Baumberger. He will officially join us on Monday, March 2nd! Hopefully, your calendars are marked to welcome him at a reception on Monday, March 2nd at 10:00 am. We’ll gather in the chapel and then follow with a social. Thanks for your warm welcome.

Asbury Gallery Update! I’m very enthusiastic to see the needlework and sewing talents of our residents in our gallery exhibit in March. If you haven’t heard or are unsure, the Gallery Committee is requesting you to share your talent or talents of your family related to needlepoint, tatting, crocheting, knitting, and embroidery or a quilt block; however, not entire quilts. All quilters hold on tight to your quilts, a quilt show is being planned for the beginning of April. More details are forthcoming! In the meantime, please consider sharing your needle-work for others to admire and enjoy in March in our gallery! For questions, please see Gallery Committee mem-bers.

Have a wonderful March….hold on tight…spring is almost here!

Did you now that prayer is a two-way street?

Becoming better at praying often requires us to pray on a daily basis. Set yourself a little time, shut the door of

your room and enter within your private self. There in the quiet space of our deepest longing we lift our heart to

God and let him know that we love him.

When people ask us how we pray we should let them know that praying is simple and not complicated. We simply

begin: “Here I am Lord, at your service.” Then we sit there letting him look us over. God loves us and enjoys hear-

ing from us. It is important to tell him that we are there at his service. Not only ready to ask favors of him, but

ready to do favors for him, too.

Prayer and service are what life is all about. Prayer and service are at the heart of following Jesus. A good idea

when praying to Jesus is telling him some of the wonderful traits, virtues we love about him. For example, Jesus

at the Temple when elders dragged an unfortunate woman caught in adultery and threw her at his feet. “The Law

requires us to stone women like this,” the group told Jesus and waited to see what he would say. Jesus began trac-

ing with his finger in the sand. He told them, “The one who is without sin should cast the first stone.” And one by

one they all walked away.

The woman was left alone with Jesus. “Woman, has no one condemned you?” “No one, sir,” she answered. Then

Jesus declares those generous words, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way and sin no more.” The woman was

able to walk away with some dignity because Jesus had treated her like a lady.

We love that about him. How he treats all people with respect and gentleness—the children, sinners, the poor and

lepers, the sick suffering from whatever ailment.

Finally---there is one more important thing we need to ask God: ”Now, Lord, what can I do for you?”
