Director’s Foreword – V Samayvay – December 2019 Edition

Dear Readers,

It is the mission of VESIM to

create enterprising and socially

responsible managers and

entrepreneurs. We achieve this

by providing various avenues to

our students to exhibit and

develop their multiple skills and

competencies.

V-Samanvay is one such tool that

brings out our students’ creativity, communication and

designing skills. It is a magazine written, designed, produced

and published entirely by our students.

I am glad to present to you the second edition produced by

the PGDM 2019-2021 batch covering the major events and

activities at VESIM in the last few months and other creative

writing by our students.

I hope you enjoy reading this and encourage our students

with your feedback, inputs and appreciation.

with best regards,

SARVODAYA

Social Entrepreneurship is an

approach generally by Start-up Companies

and Entrepreneurs, in which they develop

funds and implement solutions to social,

cultural, or environmental issues. The event named "Sarvodaya”, an

initiative by the General Management Cell

was conducted with an aim to make the

management students think beyond the

corporate life & think some innovative

solutions to solve some of our major social

problems.

Students had to form a group,

wherein they had to analyze certain social

problems related to environment,

population, unemployment, hunger, poverty, plastic problem etc. They had to

present a solution to their problem statement with the help of a poster along

with a small presentation which would describe their idea.

The event was graced by the presence of prominent personalities like Mr.

Shakti Tripathy and Mr. Vikram Hande, where they evaluated the students and

helped them with their valuable suggestions. This helped the students gain an

insight of their project as well as the problems undertaken by other fellow

students and they presented appropriate solutions required for the

betterment of society which were further appreciated and also received

valuable suggestions.

Indoor and outdoor games

The most awaited Insanity 2019

was successfully organised with

extreme enthusiasm by the

students of our sports committee

(SWC cell).

This event included a series of indoor and outdoor games which were

organised from 11-16th October 2019.

Indoor games included carom, table tennis And Chess. Outdoor games

included Cricket, Volleyball, Throw ball, and Tug of War.

Not only the students but the faculty also took part in various competitions

to encourage the students. Organisation of such events at the campus teaches

one to work in a team, coordinate with the team, play for the team, and fair

play.

It also encourages fitness along with studies.

HOGWARTS EXPRESS AT VESIM

SWC head Prof. Ravi Jeswani and SWC team organised Teachers Day

Celebration for the teaching and non-teaching staff. They had an invitation

that was sent out on a balloon with a present tied at the bottom of the

balloon. The time constraint made it difficult for them to manage this but with

a slight pinch of magic they

were able to bring Hogwarts

to life in VESIM’s very own

auditorium, it was

mesmerising to see and relive

the good youthful days with

everyone through the potter-

heads and Slytherin- heads of

Hogwarts in VESIM’s very own

backyard.

It was an event with the beautiful one liners by the anchors followed by

the extraordinary performances by the participants for all the teachers

because they believe that a teacher is like a candle, it consumes itself to light

the path for their students.

Teachers are known to shape the mind of youth and without knowledge

no one can exist in this world. Teacher imparts good value in children and turn

them into responsible citizens and all the students the participants as well as

the non-participants at VESIM truly believe it to the fullest. The event was a

great success, the teachers left with a smile on their faces.

Mad About Design: Bob the Builder

The activity Bob the Builder was

organized on 19th September 2019 by

the Department of Operations. The

event was inaugurated by the Dean

Operations- Prof. C G Prakash, and the

faculty of Operations - Prof. Anupama

Tiwari, Dr. Prema Mahale and Prof.

Shrinivas Repak.

The students of PGDM

enthusiastically participated in the event.

The students were divided into a team of

10 each, and were given a topic to plan

on. The activity was conducted to test

how efficiently the students could plan

the layout and facilities of a plant in a

creative way. The teams were given a

time slot of 2 hours to come up with

excellent layouts. The faculties of

Operations Department gave timely

suggestions so that the

teams could improvise

and work on the layout

in a better way.

The teams had to

explain the layout they

came up with to the

judges, Prof. Ravi

Jeswani, Prof Swapnil

Kshirsagar. The winning teams were rewarded with cash prizes.

The Sell-On Activity

The Sell-On Activity was conducted by VESIM to

help NGO's like Udyamita and Seva Sahyog generate

money by selling handmade bags made by adivasi

tribals and the less privileged citizens of the society. It

was also a hands-on learning experience for students to

enhance their skill set.

Each student was handed a set of 25 bags. These

bags were to be sold by them. The students

participated in the activity enthusiastically and helped

the NGO's by selling quite a few bags.

This activity was an overall learning experience for the students because

they had to perform field-sales to sell the

bags. Sales always helps a person

understand the customer better, which is

very important for a Business student.

The accounts were then handed over to

the NGO's, with the remaining unsold bags.

Hence it was a successful learning

experience for the students while giving

back to the society.

POWERFULL “PAUSE” PRACTICE.

Taking some time to reflect

back on your actions along with

comprehending coming foremost

actions is a great way to access

inner wisdom. Do you like

grumbling over something for a

long time post it is done? It could

be yelling at someone for no

reason, could be using harsh

language or maybe unnecessary arguments! What if

something minute as small as a PAUSE helps you in

avoiding such situations?

A PAUSE is mandatory. Taking a pause is like going

through a flash back of everything that may lead to the

next action. Try, it will explicitly give you better harvest.

Pause is the time between your previous actions and your

next actions. Pause could be a break from stress, from

hectic schedule and it also could be a soothing time to

simply reflect back and analyze situations and lastly WHAT

IS BETTER THAN ACTING ACCORDING TO AN ANALYZED

SITUATION? Probably it is the best way to be confident

about your actions/ decisions. All this is possible but not

without a “PAUSE”.

Awareness of Mental Illness

Why should we bare the

consequences of others,

Nights ended in violence

without having suppers.

Why always it’s the weakest

The one, to always suffer?

No one cares about us making

the days even rougher.

Sometimes my mind tells

me to take a decision,

End these series of hatreds

and baseless irritation.

It's tough for me to crawl

through the hell I tread,

Days passed with brawls

& not even a single bread.

These days I've survived,

I pray no one experiences.

Let's make it sure from

these days of grievances.

But these nights of darkness

help us learn to survive,

It helps us keep ticking

until next days of 365.

Let's hang on to the hope

And help strive ahead,

So that you help others

To out of their own head.

You're the mightiest of all,

The bravest ever known,

You're the fictional hero who

Just got back his throne.

Life at VESIM

The 2019 batch graduates,

and the 2021 batch is

welcomed with open gates.

All of them here to

challenge their fate.

Bigger dreams, creative

minds,

Shaping themselves into

people that they're here to

find.

Discovering the choices that they need to make,

Wondering about the challenges that lie on the path they take,

They're not faltering back though,

They're not afraid,

Aren't they here to make the dreams that are unmade?

The challenges will come, the opportunities will go,

But only through the tough, doesn't one grow?

Through this journey that they call college life,

And a few friends made here and there,

Page 18: V -SAMANVAY - VESIM

18

From making presentations to deciding what to wear,

To finding solace in each other's company, which is so rare.

Teachers and faculty to guide their thoughts,

To paint their dreams and advise their faults.

With each lecture and each lesson that they teach,

Each goal they help the students reach.

Before they know it, the time has gone by,

With a thousand memories to recall and a few tears to cry.

In the years that they achieve success,

They'll thank VESIM for nurturing and guiding their creative mess.

VESIM has been building minds and dreams for 25 years,

Don't they deserve the adulation, appreciation and 3 cheers?
