A new pre-galvanized system (similar to INOX stainless) was developed and launched in 2008 for projects that require the same look as INOX, but are a simple, cost effective alternative. STEELNOX offers the flexibility to paint in the field using truly artistic colors from reds, blacks, white, or various hues including stainless coatings!

Early adopters are enjoying an off-the-shelf parts system only sourced through Indital USA. All that is needed (after tapping and drilling holes) is the ability to re-galvanize the areas using easy to source spray to eliminate the potential for corrosion prior to priming and painting. This is a great alternative for decking or cable projects on top of standard contemporary applications (often seen in modern lofts for stair railings). Many of the same principles apply to choosing parts for the system, handling, and the tools necessary to complete the job as for INOX.

Stainless Steel is generally very corrosion resistant and will perform satisfactorily in most environments. Its resistance primarily depends on the elemental makeup or grade used when exposed to a corrosive environment. AISI 304 grade is primarily used for interior applications, whereas, AISI 316 grade is used more for exterior applications due to its added resistance. Care would be needed in making sure to select the appropriate grade of stainless steel for your given application. The term stainless steel is quite superficial as it does indeed stain over time when not properly maintained. There are steps and precautions to take in keeping your stainless lasting over time.

Rinsing your stainless railing every few months with warm, fresh water and soap will usually suffice. Otherwise, a degreaser spray (E4051) offered by Indital USA can help remove most contaminants, smudges, fingerprints, and restore the shine. Indital USA also offers a polishing spray (E4052) which leaves a thin antistatic and water-repellent coat on the metallic surface.

Most hard to remove stains or scratches can be removed carefully using a coarse Scotch-Brite® Pad, but keep in mind you’ll want to scrub in the same direction of the grain.

When living in an area where there are high levels of contaminants (pools, coastal regions, chemical plants, etc), it is possible to see some potential corrosion, even when using a 316 grade stainless steel. You will want to make sure to clean your railing with the degreaser and polishing spray more often throughout the year. If any surface rust does appear, it is important to deal with it immediately rather than waiting. Indital USA offers a de-rusting solution (E4052/D) and a passivating paste (E4052/P) which are both products to clean up the iron traces from the stainless steel surfaces. They will clean, protect, and exalt the pre-existing brightness, while creating a protective oxide and chrome film on the stainless steel surface.

Drilling Guide 1. Carefully measure how far apart you need your drill holes to be on your

newel posts.

2. Once you have the measurements, adjust the Drilling Template so that the guide holes are set at the exact distance your holes need to be on your newels.

3. Mark on your newels where the first hole needs to be drilled.

4. Slide the Drilling Template onto your newel, so that the guide holes line up with where your first hole needs to be.

5. Using the Drilling Template as a guide, drill holes into your newel.

6. Slide the Template down so that it lines up with your last hole and use other guide to drill a new hole.

7. Repeat as needed until you have all the holes drilled into your newel that you require.
