After the loss of Bob Vance on May 14th I asked members to share memories of Bob and how he touched our lives. I hope you treasure these as much as I have. ~Manda

At certain times in our lives we come into contact with very unique people that really touch us. Bob was just that type of person. The one thing that I always noticed he would give me a hug and talk to me with undivided attention, like you were the most important person around. We took our two sons to Bob's house a the Cowtown Social. Our sons were totally impressed with Bob and all his toys. Chris dreams of becoming wealthy after law school and owning a Ferrari. After that night Bob would always greet Ted and I and ask about our son Chris and his process in col-lege and getting ready for Law School. I think we are all sent special peo-ple that touch are lives and it does not matter how long you knew them but that you made the connection. Ted & Linda Anthony

We appreciated his giving spirit and enthusiasm fort he things we valued and shared. Dr. Royce Lummus

Bob will be dearly missed. He will be remembered as always having a smile on his face and making everyone feel welcome. He was loved. David & Laurie Robbins

One of my favorite memories of Bob was back in 2005. It was during the progressive dinner, and his home was the final course, which was the dessert home. Anyway, I remember him talking about his cars and what his plans were for them. He was a gracious host as he

spoke with everyone. I will always re-member his endearing smiles and chuckles. He was always very friendly and polite to anyone and everyone who came into contact with him. He had a zest for life and a love of cor-vettes that I quite frankly admired. He will surely be missed. Bob was a true lover of the sport of Open Road Racing and it showed. I don't think I ever saw him without a smile on his face. The image of him smiling and laughing as he would speak at the podium is what I will remember. Sheila Plowman

We will always remember Bob’s smile. Karl & Audrey Samuel

Bob was one of my best friends. We had some great times and he will be truly missed. I know he is up there tell-ing the lord all about Corvettes and such. God Bless. Jack and Karla Gandy

Bob, you were the car guy. We will all miss you so much. You have no idea how many friends you had who are at a loss. Thank you for being our friend. Love you and we will always be think-ing of you. James & Kim West

As new members of Cowtown we had just begun to know Bob Vance. As he no doubt did with everyone, he intro-duced himself at one of our first meet-ings and was a very friendly guy. We had an opportunity to bond more at a recent car show we were both in and he expressed interest in a recent dive trip I had taken. As you can see throughout the rest of the newslet-ter, our club suffered a tragic loss when Bob Vance passed away last month. I encourage everyone to participate in the brick donation in Bob’s honor. There are tentative plans for club members to caravan to the Corvette Museum in the fall to lay the brick, keep your schedules available. This will be a trip to remember. June’s 100%er will be the Exhibition Car Show at Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet. Please see flyer on back cover for details. Best regards, Bobby Gorman, CTV Vice President ‘07

May has been a sad month in Cowtown, first with the tragic accident that Bruce & Yvette Lewis’ son Blake was involved in on Monday, May 7th. Although

his friend who was driving the pickup did not survive the accident, Blake did returned home after over a week in Harris Hospital and is recovering. On Monday, May 14th, we lost our dear friend Bob Vance, to a sudden and un-expected heart attack. Friends and Family paid their respects on Sunday night the 20th and he was laid to rest on Monday the 21st. Bob started Cowtown’s Open Road Racing program and had been the Chairperson since that time; something that he loved and was heavily involved in both from an aspect of promoting and participating. Bob has been our NCM Club Ambassador for years, something else that was dear to him. Please see Karyn’s article about Bob’s NCM Brick Initiative that he spoke to us about during the last Membership Meeting. Bob will be missed greatly - his sense of cheerfulness, his desire to visit with everyone, to share his latest excit-ing venue, to make the rounds to shake your hand or give you a hug at every gathering will leave a void in our lives - he won’t be forgotten!... don’t forget, W.W.B.D. You are invited to contribute to the Bob Vance Memories page on our website - just drop me an email.

http://www.cowtownvettes.org/History/TBV-2007.html

I would like to thank Paul & Viola Meyers, Bob & Cindy Morrison, Sam & Cathy Castorani, Richard Cross & Karen Phillips and Steve Gilland for sharing photos.

Don’t forget to visit or contribute to the Cowtown Vet-eran’s webpage - click the yellow ribbon on any page.

Q: A couple of members have been asking how can they know what has recently changed on our website? A: Check the Website History page - button on left side.

Cowtown Email List Server: the loaned hardware that resides in our home network did fail (hard) last Friday morning - the hard drive sounds like a rod knocking. At this time, the direction for the future is undecided, so use of the email lists like the ctv-all, ctv-board or any of the committee email lists will not work. If you need to email members, a committee, you will need to send those di-rectly by entering those addresses in your email.

The NCCC 2007 National Club Website Contest is un-derway, ending June 1, with the winner being an-nounced at the ‘07 NCCC National Convention Awards Banquet on Friday, June 22. I would like to thank all of you that have helped identify snafus as I feverishly re-worked our website to the new look – I couldn’t have done it without you!

If you have any suggestions, questions or comments about our how we are capturing our Club’s history or website, please don’t hesitate to give me a shout.

It is that time of year again when I beg everyone to support the program that helps transplant patients participate in the Transplant Games as well as mak-ing the Organ Donor Awareness pro-gram a household name.

June will be the last meeting where tick-ets will be available, June 22nd will be the drawing.

Thanks for your support! Debbie Lindsey

I know the passing of Bob Vance is heavy on everyone’s mind. He was a long-time member of Cowtown Vettes and really had a passion for cars, pri-marily the Corvette, and enjoyed being around everyone that shared his pas-sion. At the May board meeting, the board discussed Cowtown, as a club, doing some-thing to honor Bob. Since Bob was Cowtown’s NCM (National Corvette Museum) Ambas-sador, what better way to honor him than with a lasting tribute at the Museum. It may be with a purchase of a brick or some other means. If you would be interested in donating to this project, please let me know. We will be taking donations at the next two Cowtown membership meetings. We will have a presentation from the Make-A-Wish Foundation at the next

membership meeting in June. I’m hop-ing we can participate in an event with them before this year is over. Everyone should congratulate Cindy Morrison. She was one of the top 50 fund raisers with the Tarrant County

Race for the Cure this year, raising $1800.00. Cindy and the other 49 will be honored at a luncheon on June 30. I, person-ally, want to thank Cindy for all of her ef-forts toward raising these funds for all the women I know who have been affected by breast cancer and

other forms of cancer. I know they, and I, appreciate people like you for your kind and caring attitude. WAY TO GO, CINDY!!! Thanks, everyone, for thinking of Bob Vance.

(continued from cover story Bob Vance) last week, these two things stood out in my mind. There are those who would say these were examples of unrealized dreams. My version of these are a little different. Unfortunately, I didn’t know Bob all that well yet, but I was planning on a better, longer relationship. To me, it seems he had a nice balance of dreams and reality. He was, as everyone knows, an active club member, who loved his cars and all they could do. He owned and loved great automobiles. He was a regu-lar open road racer and obviously loved every minute of the time he spent prepar-ing and racing. In my opinion, maybe more important than his current activities, was the fact that he wasn’t just “status-quo”. He con-tinued to expand his horizon and dream of swimming with whales, cross-country trips, and who knows what else. We need to take something positive from his life, and this is what I choose to take with me. Love your life every day, live every day as it might be your last, dream of new things, and plan to implement those dreams. You only go around once in life, you HAVE to do it right. Bill Buehler

Bob you will be missed!!! John & Jan Brefczynski

"What a RUSH - but you guys are nuts" as he crawled out of our Autocross Vette after taking a spin in the passenger's seat. He had a similar comment on the way back from Eureka Springs in the fall of 2005... of course he was trying to eat breakfast while following us down Hwy 23 in his '96 (6-speed). Bob, Good Friend - you'll never be forgotten and we are going to miss ya!!!! Doug & Glenda McMahan

Bob, your laughter and jokes will make for great memories. Red & Barb Greenfeder

Bob Vance, what a guy! We will certainly miss him, his smile, and his “firm” hand-shake. Bob was a regular in the CTV dis-play at the Fort Worth Rod & Custom Car show for several years – the “waxer” ver-sion of Bob was equal to his “speed” ver-sion. Bob had a kindred relationship with Rolf Krueger, a member of CTV who also was taken much too young due to a heart attack. Bob expressed to me several times that he sure missed talking with Rolf. Dorothy, Rolf’s widow, allowed me to take several of Rolf’s books to donate back to CTV through the monthly 50/50 raffle and she provided a couple of pic-tures –I made sure those of the Ferrari

were given to Bob – and he was elated that he received something of Rolfs. Now Bob and Rolf are together and probably telling Corvette stories, along with Jim Rachel, another CTV “waxer” taken much too soon. We miss you guys, save a place for the rest of us – but don’t expect us for a long time!!!!!!!! Doc Lambert

When Craig and started to show our C-6, Bob was there to “hand hold” us through the process. He was our “go to” guy and he encouraged us to get more involved. We had hoped to see him out on the track…guess it will be that one road that never ends…! We will miss him down here! Craig & Laura Satterfield

Our deepest sympathy to the Vance Fam-ily. David & Patricia Gill

Bob, your cheerful smile will truly be missed. Thanks for making our lives bet-ter by us knowing you. Roy & Mary Allen

That charming, mischievous smile, the big bear hugs, the unwavering attention he gave…wait a minute, I spe-cifically remember a time when we didn’t have Bob’s full attention. It was just be-fore a meeting at the Coors facility, I thought Bob was engrossed in a “Corvette” conversation with a group of us when five Coors girls walked in front of the glass windows heading towards the parking lot. They were scantily clad and Bob was out the door faster than if he was on an ORR course. I’m not sure I saw Bob the rest of that meeting. Yep, that love of the finer things in life will be some-thing I will remember Bob for. I will also remember Bob for taking me and Bobby under his wing at our first ORR. The com-passion he had when we weren’t able to fulfill a recent car show commitment. I too remember the Progressive dinner at his home/ bachelor pad (he really had the set up). Bob exemplified kindness for every-one he touched, a certain humility and hilarity for life. During Bob’s services, Marty Laye talked about how we are all better for having known Bob. A man who had a tolerance for what we all too often think is intolerable. Marty went on to talk about Bob’s balance in life and how we should take a lesson from Bob…and in any given situation, ask yourself WWBD (What would Bob do)? What a privilege it has been to be in the presence of some-one of Bob’s caliber yet so saddened that such a special person has been stripped from us much too soon. I truly believe Bob would want us to celebrate his life and his life lessons. Manda Gorman

PARDON FROM THE GOVERNOR

When I was dis-cussing the re-

quirements for an NCCC high speed certification (license) at the May mem-bership meeting, there was some confusion about the number of low speed events to be completed in order to qualify for the license. The correct number is 10. Don't forget about the CTV travel patches. I need to know what events you have attended so that I can tabulate the results for this year-end award. On a re-lated note, the Membership Committee Chair (Mo) needs to know if you have attended an NCCC event in lieu of one of the 100%er events. This will help Mo tabulate the membership awards. Here's some information about the wine tasting that will happen at Convention this year. It will be taking place on Monday, Wednes-day, and Thursday nights from 7-9 pm. It will be lo-cated in a back corner of the party room. If you wish to be a wine taster see Rose Schmidt at Conven-tion Registration to get a ticket. Rose will also have written instructions which will include voting informa-tion. [You must supply your own paper bag. :) ] There is a “What's New” section on the NCCC Web-site that has Convention updates. In other Convention news: Hospitality will be open all day Saturday and there will be a Convention warm-up party on Saturday night. All competition en-trants must attend the driv-ers' meeting on Sunday at 2:00 pm.

I attended the South-west Regional Governors' Meeting in Waco on May 19th, Some of the highlights: Cheryl Surdick, the Re-gional Membership Director, reports that next year there will be an annual member-ship pin for all members in the membership packet you receive for renewing your NCCC membership. There will also be a pocket calen-dar for each member. It will be a 14-month calendar, starting with February. Bernyce Molenda, the Re-gional Executive, reminds us that any blocked hotel rooms for Convention should be canceled as soon as possible. There is a wait-ing list for rooms. Creative Designs – the company that does CTV's logo embroidery and silk screening – has been awarded the t-shirt bid for 2008 NCCC Convention (Tulsa). As you probably know, CTV is heading the Convention Shirts & Mer-chandise committee. The Southwest Region Larry Kolb Scholarship Fund still has scholarships to award. The deadline for submission is June 15th. See the SW Region website for the application form. Bob Patillo, the Regional Competition Director, pre-sented the SW Regional Championship Points Trail standings as of May 18th. See point standings in the CTV Competition article. Way to go; keep it up. Don't forget to write or call... /Scott When Pontiac designers hit rock bottom somebody shamelessly proceeded to provide them with picks and shov-els. - unknown describing the Pontiac Aztec.

the seats and cause crack-ing. Use a good leather conditioner and rub it in really good with your hand. Next take a clean cotton towel and wipe the area. Use a good glass cleaner and a paper towel to rub the cleaner in the glass and a micro-fiber towel to buff the window clean. Do the out-side of the window in a ver-tical motion and the inside in a horizontal motion. That way if there are streaks or smears, you will know which side the problem is on. Don’t forget to clean the door jams and door sills for the professional look. Also if you have a clear roof be very careful not to use an abrasive cleaner. It will damage you top. Be sure to use a rubber protect like ArmorAll to keep all of the rubber sills soft and prevent cracking. Next time: Wheels & Tires John Brefczynski
