VA Aid and Attendance Benefit Provides Extra Income When Needed Most The VA Aid and Attendance Benefit is available to wartime veterans and surviving spouses who require in-home care or reside in an assisted living facility or skilled nursing facility. The pension benefit is payable providing the person meets the following requirements. Additional InformationAbout VA Aid and Attendance Benefit

As mentioned on the first page, this benefit is for certain qualified veterans or their surviving spouses. If you qualify, you may be due a tax-free pension to help pay for certain fees associated with assisted living and skilled nursing facilities.

• A married veteran may qualify to receive up to $2,120* a month maximum

• A veteran with no dependents may qualify to receive up to $1,788* a month maximum

• A qualifying spouse with no dependents may qualify to receive up to $1,149* a month maximum

• A veteran with qualifying spouse needing medical care may qualify to receive $1,403* a month

• Generally, applicants’ total assets and income cannot exceed $80,000, which does not include a primary residence and primary vehicle. If an applicant’s assets are over the limit, through proper legal and financial planning, a professional may be able to assist you in meeting the eligibility criteria

• If a qualifying person is already receiving a pension for a wartime disability, it does not disqualify him or her from the Aid and Attendance Benefit

• It may take up to ten months from the date of application to receive notice of acceptance, with the benefit paid retroactively to the date of application
