Red Cross Red Crescent volunteers
Are all volunteers of your National
Society insured? Each year volunteersget injured, sometimes they die. Some
National Societies provide accident
insurance for their volunteers, but this is
unfortunately not the case everywhere.
The International Federation has initiated a volunteer insurance scheme to assist membersocieties. This insurance is the result of a decisionat the International Federation General Assembly in 2005:
“to encourage National Societies to make sure that they have adequate accident insurance coverage for volunteers, when they carry out Red Cross and Red Crescent activities.”
The global accident insurance is intended forNational Societies who do not already haveinsurance. The pilot accident insurance scheme
will cover a volunteer during an activity on behalf of the National Society.

What is the maximum age of insured
persons? The age limit is 70 years. The insurance coversthe year when the volunteer turns 70.
