Supporter To Reporter (S2R) is an inspiring and motivating media project that gives young people confidence and skills through sports reporting. They get hands-on training in radio, video and web production, behind-the scenes access to major local sports events and mentoring from media professionals.

Reporters gain skills in the latest creative production techniques self-esteem and communication skills experience of teamwork, self-evaluation and working to deadlines

S2R increases career awareness and raises aspirations. It’s unique impact has been recognised in national education and media awards.

The S2R training experience happens over five days: 3 intensive, practical and challenging training days 1 day on a working visit to a local radio or TV station 1 day at a match or event – the climax! Reporters interview players and staff and

produce pieces to deadline – just like professional journalists.

All pieces created during the project are published to a dedicated website www.radiowaves.co.uk/s2r for friends, family and the general public (safely) to see and comment on.

S2R is proud to have the prestigious Inspire Mark for London 2012. This makes us an official Olympics and Paralympics partner and promotes our aim to create the youth reporting team for the Games.

S2R and Routes Into LanguagesWorking with RIL is an exciting new departure for S2R, leading the way for S2R becoming multi-lingual. Students’ gain a unique new motivation to learn a language – the chance to interview a sports star who speaks it. They are learning for a practical and challenging purpose. The training reflects this, with target languages used throughout to prepare reporters.
