Central Food Market: Valencia’s central food market is an absolute must when travelling to this city. As one of the oldest European food markets its impossible to miss as a stand out feature in the Ciutat Vella (the old city). The market is a perfect spot for culinary exploration and features 8,000 sq. metres of traditional Spanish food. Paella: Valencia is the region of origin of paella, so trying an authentic paella was essential during our stay. The Restaurant el Rincon del Mercado is a top priority destination for paella and other Spanish delicacies specific to Valencian cuisine. The food was incredible with a very casual and relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant, so a perfect choice if there is a small group of people wanting to try new traditional food in an ideal location, next to the main square in the centre of the city. Tapas: Trying traditional tapas dishes is another essential when visiting Valencia. Two recommendations for the best tapas are ‘Tasquita del mar’ which offered homemade, fresh tapas for example well known patatas bravas and Iberian ham at very affordable prices and ‘Cordellats’, a smaller bar/restaurant located in one of the prettiest areas of the city, around 0.1 miles away from the Valencian Cathedral, so a must-see spot offering delicious, fresh Spanish food. Drinks: There’s nothing better than a traditional jug of sangria on holiday, the value for money in Valencia is also great. Pinxto Trago served us with lovely jug whilst we sat and listened to a musician play, the atmosphere was one to remember. Agua de Valencia is also a staple, it contains gin, vodka, champagne and orange juice - very delicious. Valencia is definitely a city where you will not get thirsty! Ice-cream: La Nocciola is a great place to come for an afternoon treat. It is a short walk from the Valencia cathedral and provides lots of different flavours of traditional Italian gelato including our favourite, the dark chocolate sorbet. It uses the best high-quality ingredients making it a fantastic place to go for a refreshing daytime snack. Valencia Planning a trip to Valencia? This is your must-read guide for all the best food spots in the city. We’ve tried a mix of traditional cuisine and some classic favourites to give you the best all-round advice on where and what to eat. As students, we learnt that even the greatest foods can be experienced on a budget and we hope to provide you with the perfect guide to explore food around the city.
