The Confirmation Faith Journey for eight of our youth continues in earnest with a focus on
Confirmation Sunday. Over the past several weeks, the youth, with guidance from their adult
mentors, have studied the Holy Trinity, learned about the spiritual disciplines of Bible Study and
Prayer, and talked about what it means to be a disciple of Christ. Pastors Bridget and Neil will
spend the next two weeks teaching them about specific beliefs and traditions of the United
Methodist Church. The capstone will be a retreat in which the youth will explore their spiritual gifts
and compose a class creed which will be incorporated into their Confirmation service. The youth
will be confirmed as full members of the Valley View United Methodist Church during the 10:30
Worship Service on April 26.
Members of this year's Confirmation Class are:
Youth Mentor
Caroline Ayres Melissa Franzen
Nicholas Berns-Hoyt Steve Duggan
Kate Herrmann Amber Crane
Emilia Jarvi Ginni Duggan
Joel Lenz Bob Moneymaker
Megan Peterson Suzan Aubry
Kate Riley Twylia Church

Suzy Ayres and Kirk Reid are serving as
Confirmation Leaders.
Please keep these young people and the adult leaders in your thoughts and prayers as they complete
their Confirmation Journey over the next several weeks. And plan to welcome them into full
membership in our congregation on Sunday April 26.

Valley View Evening Care
Participating in this program for special needs
individuals is very rewarding and a perfect
mission outreach. Our Evening Care has one-
on-one contact for volunteers with the guests
and a different program every week including
(but not limited to) holiday parties, dances and
a fishing picnic at Shawnee Mission Park. Our
guests bake cookies, which are sold to the
congregation on the second Sunday of each
month. We also celebrate birthdays, bring
donations for Hope Chest, and exercise in the
gym monthly. “Try it - You’ll like it.”

[email protected] or at

Hope Chest Newsletter Volunteer
The Hope Chest food pantry is looking for
someone to gather information and edit facts
about what we do and who helps us do the
work of Hope Chest. The newsletter would be
published quarterly and shared with the
congregation of Valley View as well as those
who partner with us to make Hope Chest work.
Layout of the newsletter would not be your
responsibility, just gathering and editing
information. Please prayerfully consider this
opportunity as part of the Worship +2
challenge.
Contact Matt Campbell at 913-254-9927 or
[email protected] if you are
interested in this opportunity to serve.

Pawnee Elementary School “MVP”
Have you wanted to help with outreach but felt
you didn’t have time, or that you were
physically unable? Here is another wonderful
Worship +2 opportunity! We now are able to
assist students at Pawnee Elementary for as
little as 30 minutes per week. The school has
many needs so there is something to fit your
talents! After completing a 30 minute child
safety presentation, and passing a background
check, you are able to be a “MVP” (my
volunteer pal).

at [email protected] for details.

A Message From The Pastors
This Sunday we will celebrate Easter. When our worship service begins, the pews will
be filled with both our regular attendees, as well as their extended family and visi-
tors. Have you ever wondered, “What is the big deal?” Virtually every person in at-
tendance already knows the story of Christ's resurrection, but they show up any-
way. Do we come to church on Easter expecting the same old traditions and the same
old message? Is Easter nothing more than familiar worship, with familiar songs,
among familiar friends? If our primary reason for worshipping on Easter is the
singing of “Christ the Lord is Risen Today,” we are missing the point.
The first Easter came as a surprise to those that experienced it. The women
visit the tomb early in the morning and Jesus isn’t there. They learn that
he has been raised from the dead. Suddenly everything has changed. Easter is about
the “new” rather than the “old.” During the season of Easter, our sermons will con-
sider many of the “new” promises that Easter brings.
Be willing to be surprised this Easter.

Neil
