Thirty years ago, when the concept of energy conservation was all but unknown and health, safety and environmental legislation in its infancy, Comid Engineering Ltd. (Comid) began to build its experience in the repair, reconditioning and testing of control and safety relief valves.

Valve Spares

Comid maintains a large stock of raw material required for the fabrication of metallic and non-metallic components of the valves. The spares are manufactured or fabricated as per the requirements, dimensions and tolerances of international standards or of OEM drawings based on availability. In the absence of OEM drawings Comid skilled engineers will Reverse Engineer worn or damaged components.

Comid have dedicated suppliers for providing custom made soft spares including gaskets, seal rings, O-rings, valve seats, profile seals, liners and linings.

We have amassed a wealth of experience while working with the designs of various manufacturers and our engineers can provide an in-depth understanding of plant systems, issues and material technology.

Valve Actuation

Valve actuation plays a major part in today’s valve operations. Actuation saves time, manpower, resolves health and safety concerns and can result in long term cost savings.

Actuation need not simply be to open and close valves. In the modern working environment the control of fluids or gas is paramount to ensure plant efficiency and safety. Modulating actuators provide the solution.

Comid provides mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic solutions for actuation based on the torque capacity of the existing valve. Multi-turn, quarter turn and linear actuators are available to suit the most demanding of situations.

Comid has set in place links with the world’s leading actuator companies. We are technical joint venture partners with Blac Inc. offering hydro-electric actuation solutions as well as representatives for their range of specialty electro-hydraulic actuators for the power, pipeline and refinery industries.

Our objectives are to ensure that our clients get the correct actuator that meets their requirements and/or specifications. To that end we also supply actuators from other major actuation companies such as Auma, Rotork, Norbro, Hytork, DREHMO, Bernard and Remote Control.

Actuator Selection

Initial points that clients would need to consider is the type of power source that can be accessed in their environment. The options include:

PneumaticGenerally a more economical solution for process plants where compressed air is available and accessible.

HydraulicNormally designed to operate at higher pressure than pneumatic actuators and subject to the availability of an appropriate hydraulic or pneumatic power source. Greater force is generally achieved with an equivalent size to a pneumatic actuator.

ElectricThese are the best solution where it is not viable to supply pneumatic or hydraulic power. This option could be of particular interest where control in remote sites are required.

Actuator and valve manufacturers are continuing to design methods of operating in new and innovative ways. Comid can support clients in identifying their needs and providing appropriate solutions that are both economical and viable.

Comid can help clients identify the most appropriate actuator solutions to meet their requirements. Both, standard off-the-shelf and bespoke solutions can be offered by Comid through their agreements with actuator manufacturers.

Comid are specialists in carrying out modifications to valves including the change of trim materials for stems, discs, and seats to cater for change in service applications.

The components are custom fabricated as per the original design while taking into consideration the mechanical and chemical properties of the changed materials. Reverse engineering process is used in the absence of OEM drawings.

External and Internal protection of valves can be modified by providing added fusion bond epoxy coatings of up to 500 microns for required services. Likewise, corrosion resistant coatings for sea water application or severe service can also be provided.

Safety Valve Overhaul

Ensuring that safety valves are Pre Strip-down bench tested to verify the valve’s integrity;

Testing and certifying all safety valves upon completion of the overhaul; and

Returning valves, after overhaul and test, to the client complete with pressure test records and a test certificate detailing the valves unique reference number, set pressure etc.

By using Comid On-line Testing Service for Safety Valves, the valve’s performance can be evaluated whilst the system is operating. There is no need to shut down the plant to enable valve removal for testing. If the valve is found to be within operational tolerance, the valve can be adjusted as necessary or simply re-sealed and tagged to denote acceptance. Since the equipment is computerised a test report is produced to demonstrate the performance of the valve.

Valves which do not meet the performance standards can be identified and arrangement made for removal for workshop overhaul at the next convenient plant shutdown.

Valve Reconditioning

Comid provides a complete - and guaranteed - service in valve reconditioning, using skills and experience developed over many years and in every sector of industry.

Even at commissioning stage, Comid can restore valves damaged during transportation and commissioning to their original condition saving the critical time and expense involved in procuring replacements thus expediting the commissioning of your project on schedule.

At Comid, we take pride in our experience and capability to handle the most complicated of valve repairs and modifications. Our dedicated servicing team has been handling major plants for nearly three decades and have built up core expertise in general and specialist services. One such area is the stelliting of valve seats and SS 13% Cr build up for increasing the chemical and wear resistance of valves. Our valve refurbishment capabilities are complete right down to wedge matching to ensure total sealing and increasing the valve life.

Repair with conventional weld build-up and machining is not always feasible on erosions of large size valves on-line especially of cast materials. Time and cost constraints in these situations rule out replacement. In such cases, Comid has the capability to repair your valve using epoxy or ceramic based build up materials with mechanical properties equivalent to and in some cases greater than the base material providing excellent chemical or erosion resistant properties.

Independent Valve Testing Services

Pressure testing and P.M.I. (Positive Material Identification) is offered to prove your stock or newly purchased valves are fit for their intended purpose. Witness testing is welcomed by your own or Third Party Inspectors.

We know the cost of installing a leaking or faulty valve can far out weigh the actual valve cost. Having your valves tested or re-tested prior to installation can and does save time and money.

Comid Inspection and Test facilities are available for the verification of your valves. Our test equipment caters for hydrostatic and pneumatic testing of Safety, Isolation and Control Valves.

Severe Service Valves

Comid appreciates and respects the products and service duty of Severe Service applications. We have expanded our service to cater for valves used in the most severe and often hazardous applications for example, Chlorine, EDC, HCl and HF Alkylation.

Alongside our UK associate company Shaw Valves we offer a range of valves specially designed to meet the most arduous and demanding service.

Straight and Angle pattern Bellow Sealed globe valves are offered in LCC, CF8M, Inconel, Hastlloy and Monel.
