VIFF corporate and government supporters announced Vancouver, BC (September 5, 2007) – The 26 th Vancouver International Film Festival, which takes place September 27 to October 12, is pleased to announce its slate of corporate and government supporters. “The backing we receive from both the public and private sector is a strong indication that these organizations hold the Vancouver International Film Festival and its 150,000-plus audience in high esteem,” said Betty Verkuil, director of development and communications. “The festival is an important fixture on the arts and culture scene in Canada, and the support we receive helps keep the festival vibrant. And for our festival attendees, it helps keep the price of tickets low!” Major new supporters this year include Kyoto Planet, which comes aboard at the Festival Partner level (the highest sponsorship category). Kyoto Planet sponsors the new Climate for Change environmental program and a $25,000 award. UPS is another key new sponsor, joining VIFF as official courier and sponsor of the volunteer program. Pacific Palisades Hotel is the new headquarters hotel and will be the hub of the festival media, hospitality and VIP functions. Returning sponsors include Rogers, which has increased its status from Premier level to Festival Partner. Rogers sponsors the Opening Gala Film and Party as well the Rogers People’s Choice Award for Most Popular International Film. Vancity also returns at the Festival Partner level. The company has expanded its role at VIFF this year, as sponsor of the Vancity People’s Choice Award for Most Popular Canadian Film. And long-time supporter Visa reprises its role as Festival Partner. It is the exclusive card of VIFF and sponsor of the Visa Screening Room, Visa Box Offices and Visa Charge-By-Phone Line. Starbucks returns with the Starbucks Hotline, an information service for festivalgoers. In addition, Starbucks will promote the festival extensively at its stores throughout the Lower Mainland. Government supporters include Telefilm Canada, the Province of British Columbia, City of Vancouver, British Columbia Arts Council and Foreign Affairs Canada. Other key sponsors include Brad Birarda (Dragons & Tigers: The Cinemas of East Asia and Award for Young Cinema); British Columbia Film (Premier Sponsor); the BC Producers’ Branch of the Canadian Film and Television Producers Association (Canadian Images Opening Film & Party); CBC (Nonfiction Features); Citytv ($12,000 Western Canada Feature Film Award); Empire Theatres (Sneak Preview Guide and host venue); Honda Canada (official vehicle); IFC (Premier sponsor); Insight Film Studios Inc.
