Accounting
Business and Financial Operations is currently one of the fastest growing occupational
groups. The need for accountants, auditors, and bookkeepers is expected to increase in the future.
Accounting, one of the business and financial operations, is one of those fast growing
occupations. Accountants have to be able to use a computer, have skills in mathematics and time
management, be able to pay attention to details, and have the ability to compute, classify, and
record numerical data. Needless to say, there are numerous skills needed to be an accountant, but
it is a career that will continue to be in demand.
To be an accountant, the right education is needed. A bachelors degree in accounting
gives a beginning accountant a great advantage. Many colleges offer business programs that will
help prepare and ready accountants for the real world. Some schools that have the education
needed include Virginia Tech, Virginia Commonwealth University, and George Mason
University. All three of these colleges can provide a bachelors degree in Accounting. Besides the
twenty-four semester hours needed in the class of Accounting or Auditing, beginning
accountants have the option to get a degree in Financial Technology if they wanted to. It would
give them an advantage over others by having another skill to offer. After college, the most
common test that all accountants will need to take is the CPA test or the Certified Public
Accountants test. Most jobs will want this certification. In addition, after college, accountants
can also get a certification in CITP or Certified Information Technology Professional or PFS
meaning Personal Financial Specialist if they would like too.
