The tract of land lying between them is believed to be Varanasi. It is also believed that Kashi is the original ground created by Shiva and Parvati, upon which they stood at the beginning of time. On an average, there is 650 metricton solid waste disposal in this city per day. Due to lack of defined dumping ground and scientific method of disposal, the waste of city is being dumped on low lands available on the outskirts. This practice by the Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) continued for decades. To find a permanent solution, the SWM was adopted by the urban development department and its detailed project report of Rs 48.67 crores also got the nod of government under JNNURM. The issue of realizing user charges from people during door-to-doorgarbagecollection was politicized. The A2Z and VMC could be seen fighting on the issue of payments for the transportation of solid waste from city's dumping centers to Karsada, where the plant for scientific disposal of garbage could not be completed so far.
