RRHS HOCKEY BackersWho We Are: An organized group of high school parents and alumni who have come together to support RRHS hockey and Coach Cogan.

Objective: To provide facilities, equipment, budget and resources to put RRHS hockey on par with leading high school programs in the state of Ohio.

Our Goal: To support the RRHS teams with world class high school facilities that are on par with other RRHS sports facilities (football field, gym, locker rooms, etc.). First and foremost this means construction of a new locker room specifically for the high school team.

RRHS HOCKEY – CURRENT STATEOn Ice: Won the most games in school history in 2011-12. Final Four participant in 2012-13 for the first time since 1979. Ranked in the top 5 in the State of Ohio for much of last two seasons. Played in the most competitive hockey division in Ohio – the Red Division of the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League. One of only 4 public schools to compete in the Red Division. RRHS boys enrollment is 1/2 to 1/3 that of the other public schools (Mentor, Strongsville, Shaker Heights, Hudson) . RRHS defeated all of the above mentioned teams last season. Defeated three privates schools, including #1 ranked St. Ignatius, to reach Final Four.Off Ice: Launched a JV team for the 2012-2013 season. All RRHS players volunteering on ice time to each and every youth team in the RRYH program.

CURRENT VARSITY LOCKER ROOM: The 18’x20’ locker room was designed for youth hockey teams. This means extremely tight conditions for high school players (approximately 35 Varsity and JV players). There is NO privacy – including from 6-7 year old Mite players and their parents. It is directly connected and shares a bathroom with the youth hockey teams. The high school players are separated from youth players and the public by plastic shower curtains hung by hooks. The players must also go into a public area before entering bathrooms and showers (see below). The coaches office is located outside of the locker room area (difficult to supervise). There is no storage for players to keep gear. Most players must take large, heavy, and damp hockey bags back and forth to rink. Less then half of players can keep their gear in two small storage facilities within rink.

CURRENT STORAGE ROOM CONDITIONS:

Storage Room #1:

The Downstairs storage room is 12’x 9‘ and is located on the opposite end of the ice rink. It holds about 6-8 hockey bags and gear which are not included in photos. There is poor air ventilation. Unhealthy environment for drying gear. Wet gear in tight space promotes growth of bacteria, mold, and staph.

CURRENT STORAGE ROOM CONDITIONS:

Storage Room #2:

The upstairs storage room is 12’x 9‘ and is located at the top of the bleachers with a very narrow entrance on the opposite end of the ice rink. It holds about 6-8 hockey bags and gear as well as additional gear that is not being used. There is poor air ventilation. Unhealthy environment for drying gear. Wet gear in tight space promotes growth of bacteria, mold, and staph.

RRHS HOCKEY NEEDS:

Privacy from youth players and parents.

Healthy environment for drying of gear (bacteria/staph).

Space to support not only the Varsity team, but also the newly formed JV team.

A locker room that is on par with other RRHS and Rocky River city facilities – world class.
