Early Life
• Vasco da Gama was born at Sines, Potugal in 1460.
• Vasco’s dad, Estavo was an explorer. Vasco was born to a noble family.
• Vasco was a gentleman at court before he became an explorer, he actually got
chosen to lead the expedition to India.
• Vasco had a few jobs, a gentleman at court, navigator and a sailor.
• Vasco’s parents taught him to swim and sail. He was taught a few languages
and physics, geography, astronamy, and math.
• While Vasco was sailing his crew members got scurvy which is a type of
disease that makes the middle of your teeth red in a triangle shape.
Importance Of Exploration
• King Manual the first of Portuagul sent Vasco to India in 1502.
• Vasco da Gama went to Mozambique, East Africa.
• Vasco’s voyage was to get spices and goods from India.
• The destination Vasco landed on was India.
Obstacles of Exploration
• Vasco stopped at Africa on his way to India and killed hundreds of Muslims
during his voyage.
• On July 8, 1497 Vasco headed east and rounded Cape Good Hope on
November 22.
• One of Vasco’s hardship was when he was in Africa was that Muslims
didn’t want interfierence in trade.
Results
• Vasco da Gama finally reached Callicut, India May 20, 1498.
• One of vasco’s accomplishments was, he discovered a route to India in
• Vasco led Portuges to get spices in 1498
• He returned back to Portuagal in 1499 and was rewarded by a king
CONCLUSION
• Vasco died in 1524 because he got ill
• Vasco is remembered today because he has found an easier route to India
• The world benefits from his discoveries because all the sailors and pilots
get a shortcut to India from Europe and people don’t have to sail and sit
on the plain for too long
Reflection
• My opinion to the explorer is that I like him because he was a good leader
and… made the plane ride shorter! (: (Najah)
• I think he’s awesome because he made a state rich and famous. (Calvin)
