Electromechanical Workflow | Catalog/Library Management
► Workflow video:
14© 2018 Autodesk
Electromechanical Workflow | Catalog/Library Management
► Remarks:► A library path is required to store Catalog Components
► During placement of 3D components out of the Catalog, Inventor copies to following location:
<workspace>\Electrical Components\<TABLE>\<MANUFACTURER>\<CATALOG>
ExampleC:\OTx2018-ELECTROMECH\Designs\Electrical Components\PB\AB\800MR-D1D1
=> Redundant files in Vault (!Unique File Naming!)
15© 2018 Autodesk
Electromechanical Workflow | Catalog/Library Management
► Option 1: Manage Catalog Components Library in Vault► Turn off “Enforce Unique File Names” in Vault Explorer
► Use the relative path to the inventor file, starting from the library definition in the inventor project file:
Full path of this file:C:\OTx2018-ELECTROMECH\Libraries\ Inventor Electrical Library\PB\AB\800MR-D1D1\ADSK-UL-11228.ipt
► Use workspace sync to populate the Electrical Components folder and library folder
16© 2018 Autodesk
Electromechanical Workflow | Catalog/Library Management
► Option 2: Manage Catalog Components Library outside Vault► Configure extra library on a shared location
► relative path to the inventor file in this case:
\\dellavondtp2\ACADE_SharedWS\CAE\Electrical Components\ PB\AB\800MR-D1D1\ADSK-UL-11228.ipt
► Best Practice: Keep the folder structure like <TABLE>\<MANUFACTURER>\<CATALOG>In that case you need only the filename in the database
► Copy the default Inventor Electrical Library 2019
► Use workspace sync to populate the Electrical Components folder
17© 2018 Autodesk
Electromechanical Workflow | Catalog/Library Management
► Optional:Complete Workflow to create an AcadE 2D symbol and link it to a 3D Part
18© 2018 Autodesk
Electromechanical Workflow | BOM Management
► AcadE BOM reports are expected to reflect complete BOM data including► Electrical only components
► Inventor only components
► Electrical – Inventor linked components
► BOM Reports add an option to include Inventor components:
► Unlinked
► Linked
► AutoCAD Electrical is enabled to handover the complete Electromechanical BOM to Vault Item BOM in case 3D components are linked.

► Workflow
Link / Attach in
schematics1 Insert 3D component 2 BOM Reports ACE
Item BOM Vault3
Simple workflow to support common BOM for ACE and CAD (3D)
Provides BOM for entire project
ACE BOM is the leading portion, the addition of 3D components to mechanical design is optional

Electromechanical Workflow | BOM Management
▪ Result in ACE BOM Report▪ PLC602 is listed once (INV)
▪ PLC622 is listed twice (ACE/INV)
▪ PLC722 is listed once (linked)
▪ Result in Vault Pro BOM▪ PLC602 is not listed (INV)
▪ PLC622 is listed once (ACE)
▪ PLC722 is listed once (linked)
Vault is reflecting the ACE components as a BOM
22© 2018 Autodesk
Electromechanical Workflow | BOM Management
► Electrical BOM, always leading?
► In most cases the ACE BOM will be the leading information – based on that the electrical components will be ordered
► In case (some) electrical components get ordered based on a Inventor BOM you need to develop a strategy to avoid doubles
► The next slides gives some considerations and suggestions
23© 2018 Autodesk
Electromechanical Workflow | BOM Management
► Electrical BOM, always leading?
► Add a iProperty (True/False) which reflects the order process
► Extend the BOM with additional BOM row property and map iProperty to it
► Based on a report template you can easy extract the information for the order process
► Challenge: highlight electrical component ordered by the Mechanical BOM in electrical BOM to avoid that the component is ordered twice as soon as the component gets linked within ACE
24© 2018 Autodesk
Electromechanical Workflow | BOM Management
► Electrical BOM, always leading?
► Eventually the electrical properties in Inventor can be used to provide the info back from Inventor to ACE that a specific component will be ordered through the mechanical BOM
► Using the „Installation“ as a kind of Container to transfer the information to ACE. This field equals a BOM row property and can be shown in the ACE BOM reports and ACE Browser
Multi – User Electrical Project setupShared workspace
SQL Catalog
26© 2018 Autodesk
Multi – User Setup | Shared Working Folder
► Requirement:
When collaborating on an Electrical Project, all users should work on the same WDP file
► Solution:
Use a Shared working folder (Sand Box)
► Warning:
Users can be working on the same files. Strictly follow the Sandbox Rules to avoid overwriting data!
27© 2018 Autodesk
Multi – User Setup | Shared Working Folder Rules
► Remain logged into the vault at all times.
► You cannot check out a file that is currently opened for read-write by another user.
► You can still check out a file that is opened for read only by another user.
► You can open a file in read only when it is currently checked out to someone else using the same working folder.
► Ensure that the drawings are checked back into the vault after you finish working on them so they are available to other users who need to modify them.

Multi – User Setup | AutoCAD Electrical - Inventor
► Map Root ($) to the Shared Network Folder► Eg. \\<servername>\ACADE_SharedWS
► Create a folder for the AutoCAD E Projects on the 1st Level
► Map all other 1st Level Folders to the local workspace
► e.g. C:\OTX2018-ELECTROMECH\Designs
29© 2018 Autodesk
Centralized ACE SQL Database
► Requirement► Centralized storage of Electrical Catalogs
► Avoid local copies of custom / secondary catalogs
► Solution► Move catalog definition to SQL Server
► Benefits | Vault Integration► Catalogs (Access DBs) are no longer checked in to Vault
30© 2018 Autodesk
Centralized ACE SQL Database
► Step 1: Install SQL (Express)
► Don’t Use the AutodeskVault Instance!
31© 2018 Autodesk
Centralized ACE SQL Database
► Step 2: Install Autodesk Content Migration Utility for AutoCAD Electrical
32© 2018 Autodesk
Centralized ACE SQL Database
► Step 3: Migrate your access db to SQL
33© 2018 Autodesk
Centralized ACE SQL Database
► Step 4: Configure AutoCAD E and Inventor to consume the SQL DB
AutoCAD Electrical Setup

AutoCAD Electrical – Vault | Manage Templates
► Project Uses Minimum of 2 File Types► Project Files *.wdp
► Drawings *.dwg
…and optionally many others…► … e.g.. mapping files *.wdl, *.wdt, … or even the environment wd.env
► Vault improves centralized template management✓ Share mapping files as defaults
✓ Share AutoCAD profile to apply defaults
✓ Share Electrical drawing / block templates
► Implement Workspace Sync (automated)► Review setup recommendations especially for Electrical
36© 2018 Autodesk
AutoCAD Electrical – Vault | Manage Support Files
