I am a strong and spunky female. I grew up just outside of Austin, and spent most of my childhood livingin the country. Lake Travis and the woods was my backyard. Now I am a corporate travel agent. I gethookups on hotels for myself, but not really able to help with leisure travel for my friends... ;)I am also going to school for software programming. My spare time at home is spent with my son ordoing homework, typically. The best part of life is getting together with my friends and loved ones. Younever know what tomorrow will bring. Living each moment to the fullest and having fun is my approach tolife and love.

Mariko Aramaki’s designs are soft yetbold, chic yet playful, and ultimatelyfeminine. Inspired by beauty in nature, art, culture, and life itself, the whimsicalelegance in her work is a result of purelove and passion for fashion. She was known to be fashionable andcreative from an early age, and hercareer goal was always to become afashion designer. Born and raised inVancouver, the Japanese-Canadian localdesigner graduated from KwantlenPolytechnic University with a Bachelor’sDegree in Fashion Design & Technologyin 2010. Coming to realize her interestswithin the industry, she carefully choseher internship with local designer ManuelMendoza at his custom bridal shop. Shealso took part in a summer studyprogram in Lyon, France, studyingFrench fashion history and textiles todeepen her knowledge in her field ofinterest. After four years at Kwantlen, itwas clear that Aramaki wanted to focuson evening, bridal, and flamenco dresses– pieces where she can fully express hercreative language through fabric and theability to add a certain "je ne sais quoi"that makes Aramaki's designs stand out.Wanting to combine her natural talentand extensive training with moreexperience, she currently resides inParis, France, in search for aninternational industry opportunity. For more info, visit:www.marikoaramaki.comOr email her at:[email protected]

Style...I have three different Collections that areinspired by a unique set of materials ineach collectionMy line consists of three collections-Persepolis, Metropolis and Gaia.*Persepolis Collection is the MiddleEastern inspired jewelry with vintage coinsand pendants that remind me of myheritage.*Metropolis Collection is with fire polishedglass and crystals much like sitting atopLA's Hollywood Hills and looking down.Seeing the glistening lights that resemblea bed of gems- also known as the citylights sparkling so bright.

*Gaia Collection is made with naturalrocks and stones, named after The GreekGoddess of Earth and inspired by my loveof the our earth in it's most majesticbeauty. The unifying theme is the method ofmaking the pieces with wire wrap, amethod I embrace because it makes eachpiece a one of a kind, molded by theuniqueness of the materials and myartistic vision. The piece are not alwayssymmetrical or predictable. Each uniquepiece represents the complexity andmystery of the woman who wears it.

Page 29: Vedere Magazine May 2012 Issue 10 Vol 1

WearableArt....To me, Art makes me more thoughtful,it helps me to look at the world withgrace and become more of a wellrounded being. I use these thoughts toexpress my idea of beauty andelegance in designing each and everypiece in my collections. Accessoriesare a way of helping people turn theirbodies into canvases to express theirown creativity and beauty. My jewelrycan be mounted on a hang-able plaquethat accentuates the piecescompositional elements. This allows thepieces to be appreciated in a moretraditional sense even while not beingworn.

Page 30: Vedere Magazine May 2012 Issue 10 Vol 1

Inspiration...People, my environmentand the materials I useare my inspiration. I aman Iranian Americanraised in Los Angeles. Ilove the unity oftraditional andcontemporary, theorganic and thecomposite. We are notjust mothers or divas, 9to 5er's or dancingqueens...we are all ofthese things and more...I want to be able toexpress that complexity.I want my jewelry to helpthem express that.

Page 31: Vedere Magazine May 2012 Issue 10 Vol 1

Who...For everyone! My pieces areaffordable and are for every woman, mood and occasion. Dress it up forthe "red carpet" or dress it down with"jeans and a t-shirt"... you are stillbeautiful!

FASHION DESIGNER LIZZI LONDONLizzi London's childhood passion for abstract art, influence by Salvador Dali and fashion designer JohnGalliano, led her desire to observe visuals, manipulatematerials and mold on bodies as an alternative to blankcanvases and flat drawing. The Lizzi London Spring/Summer collection continues toexplore the vibrancy and seduction of ancient natural form rocks with all of its physical beautyand it's long lasting influence on civilization leaving an empowerment of foot prints. Her design collection features a diversity array of chic, cocktail, formal and Avant Guarde. Fashionable parents tend to dresstheir children equally fashionable.Unfortunately that adorable toddlerdress that can cost a near fortunefrom high end stores will beoutgrown in 6 weeks or come victimto one of many stains. Add infrequent growth spurts and seasonappropriate clothing, parentsfrequently find themselves changingout the entire contents of a closet. Then as children become teens andequally style conscious, the value ofbrand becomes increasinglyimportant. Luckily fashionable parentsnationwide don’t have to spend afortune to find name brand new andgently used clothing.Today’s mission, demonstrate thatchildren ranging from age 3-10 andtheir parents can find a stylish, quality outfit for less than $10 in theirlocal Goodwill store. My name is William Maxwell von Isser, but I go by Max. I’m studying Marketing at the University ofArizona and hope to graduate in May of 2013. I am obsessed with fashion and always love to studythe emerging brands and trends. One of my hobbies is thrift shopping and finding deals on designerand vintage clothing. I started modeling because I enjoy the competitive and classy vibe of theindustry.I am most proud of my self-discipline when it comes to exercise and school, because I always findways to fight through the would-be lazy days and be productive. I hope to work with the brand Ballysomeday because I love their vibrant yet simple colors and designs, and they have had some of myfavorite marketing campaigns in fashion. After I graduate I plan to travel and join the Peace Corps sothat I can make a positive impact on the world before I start a career.

Verdere’s very own contributingwriter, Christina Morena, organized Phoenix RocksFashion, located at the HardRock Cafe in downtown Phoenix. The proceeds from this show andsilent auction went to the PurpleRibbon Fund for Children, anonprofit organization that workswith kids who lost a parent todomestic violence. Along with thestandard who’s who of thePhoenix fashion elite, such aslocal celebrities, Jackie Moralesand Mrs. Arizona, Jennifer Olson,I had the pleasure of attendingwhat I would call, one of the bestlocally run fashion shows everpresented. What made this show better thanthe rest? The audience wasentertained from the moment wewalked in the door. We weregreeted with live spray paintartist, who painted two beautifullytoned models. We also got toenjoy a lengthy set put on bylocal band, Scoti*Slate, followedby an on-time start to thefashion, a near impossible feat.On top of the timeliness and thesuperb entertainment, the fashionwas also amazing. We saw bohemian inspired designs from RAApparel, new tees from Deeds of Love, and some newly releasedflowing dresses from Bri Bridge. We were also pleasantly surprised tomeet local designer, Denise Lay, who presented us with her streetwearand wedding lines. Not only was she impressive in her own personalstyle, but also with her artistic use of bright color and accessories. Sheis truly a designer to stay on the look-out for.I cannot give enough praise to Christina for this job well done, and no,it’s not because she writes for the magazine. It truly was a night toremember and an event that sets the bar higher than it was before.

TAI CLOSETSTYLING HOUSEThe ReBootFashion Showat theRenaissance Hotel

This past weekend, I attended the Tai Closet Reboot FashionShow. The only thing I regret about this show is that I wasn’table to get there earlier to take pics of the crowd (definitelythe best looking crowd I’ve ever seen in Phoenix). There wasa smattering of collections in one big long show (whichmeans I definitely can’t tell you what designers made what).
