GRAHAMARNOLDSponsored by
ood evening and a warm welcome to the biggest game
in Australian football.
This is undoubtedly the game the whole country looks forward to and the anticipation and build up has again been fantastic.
Our boys are ready and are ready for anything the opposition will throw at us. We know in the past how these games always create incidents and are never dull.
We’ve seen fantastic goals, confrontations, red cards and controversy in recent years but we have a squad at Sydney FC who have experienced this and have
DRAINAGE Pty Ltd
played in huge games, including World Cup matches, so I’m confident we’ll play the opposition and not the occasion tonight. We are ready.
I hope our fans are ready too. This is the game when we need to prove that We Are Sydney and Sydney Is Sky Blue and I know you will be out there backing us 100% whatever happens. We saw last year how scorelines can change over the course of 90 minutes so we need to be one team for the full game.
It is a cliché but form does go out of the window in these types of games and they are rarely one-sided, which is why it is vitally important we have everyone in Sky Blue giving us their voices and their hearts tonight.
Last year we had three fantastic games against the Wanderers, where we collected seven points from nine. Tonight is only one game over the course of the season, but I also know it’s a very
important game for both clubs.
Enjoy it and get ready for the ride.

PLAYER FEATURE
VEDRANJANJETOVICNever Give Up
ot one to give up, Sydney FC shotstopper Vedran Janjetovic
has overcome adversity to stand today as the Sky Blues number one glovesman in the history of the club.
Having played more consecutive games (58) for Sydney FC than any other player and created a club record of 514 minutes without conceding a goal last season, the story could have been so different for Janjetovic were it not for his never say die attitude following a severe nerve injury during his formative years.
“It was a big big set back for myself [the nerve injury], not just in football but in general life,” Janjetovic said.
“It probably set me back a couple of years with football. I was out for ages, it was pretty devastating but I stuck at it, didn’t give up, sacrificed a lot more and I’m still here.
“I don’t like to give up at things, I just like to keep going and proving people wrong.
“Everyone was just like that’s it, give it up and get a job, do something normal, but I was out to prove them wrong and I think that’s what kept me going.
“I can’t wrap my head around it [those stats]. It’s all still surreal,” he continued.
“It’s just something that happens in
the end, all that hard work, that’s what you get credited with those numbers. It’s not something that you aim to get the best numbers, you put in the hard work and that’s what you get as a reward.
“It’s an awesome feeling and hopefully I can just keep going, playing hard and training well.”
A code swapper at a young age, Janjetovic said he gave up rugby league as a teenager and immediately assumed his position as a goalkeeper.
“I started playing when I was about 15. Just after my first NRL season,” he said.
“I always wanted to play football but I just never had the opportunity, with mum and dad working I just couldn’t get to training and one of my teammates, when I was playing NRL back then, said why don’t you
just join our team.
“I was a goalkeeper straight away. I always used to throw myself around doing crazy things,” he continued.
“I was pretty much fearless of anything happening to my body so I thought goalkeeper was perfect for me.”

10 QUESTIONS
www.facebook.com/SydneyFootballClub
Ahead of the Sydney Derby, we caught up with new Sydney FC recruit Riley Woodcock for a quick 10 questions...
Find out what song he sung during his Sky Blues initiation, who he thinks is the funniest team mate and what his last meal would be!
What was your junior club? Coburn City Soccer Club.
What’s your nickname at Sydney FC?Woody.
Who’s the funniest team mate?Ivy [Ivan Necevski] for sure! He’s always so sarcastic and we have a group chat, he’s always leading that with good photos.
What song did you sing for your initiation?I sung “Lover” by Chet Faker.
Who’s your best mate at Sydney FC?Probably Branno [Brandon O’Neill]. I’ve known him since I was 12 years old. I’ve also become quite close with Hooley [Andrew Hoole] and some of the younger boys here but yeah, best mate is Branno.
Which sporting teams do you support?I like Arsenal and West Coast Eagles.
RILEYWOODCOCKWhat would your last meal be?My last meal, it would have to be a big double quarter pounder I think!
Any pre-game superstitions?Nah, none at all for me.
What’s your greatest football achievement?Making my professional debut in the A-League in 2013 when I was 17. Once you turn pro it’s pretty serious.
What are your goals for the 2015/16 season? To win the A-League with Sydney FC and play as many first team games as possible and try and secure a spot in that starting 11.

MATCH RECAP AND LADDER
Underpinning the Sky Blues dominance in their one nil victory over the Newcastle Jets on Saturday was Sydney FC’s ability to retain and distribute the ball.
The Sky Blues enjoyed 59.4% of possession over the 90 minutes at Hunter Stadium, as they spent the majority of the game, second half especially camped in the Jets half of the field.
If there were no options available
MATCHRECAPgoing forward, Sydney FC were happy to pass back through the defence and recycle possession to the other flank in search of an avenue through the Jets back four.
Sydney FC made a total of 479 passes throughout the match, completing the majority, to finish with a passing accuracy of 83.9%
across the entire field and an accuracy of 78.2% in the Jets final third.

Newcastle Jets’ map of completed passes with a lack of successful balls in the final third of the field.
“We controlled 89 minutes of the 93 or 94 minutes,” Arnold said.
“They didn’t have a shot all second half and definitely not a shot on goal. The most important thing in the first six weeks is to get fitter, stronger and pick up points and we’re doing that.”

MATCH RECAP, FIXTURES AND RESULTS
A record crowd of 960 at Lambert Park, Leichhardt saw Sydney FC fall to Melbourne City FC in the Westfield W-League 2015/16 season opener on Sunday.
Goals to Larissa Crummer (2), Lisa De Vanna, Beatie Goad, Marianna Tabain and Melina Ayres sealed victory for City in their first ever match in the competition to consign the Sky Blues to an opening day defeat.
Sydney FC conceded early with Crummer bursting into the box and rounding Michelle Betos to tap home, however the Sky Blues eased into the match as they found their rhythm fifteen minutes in.City dictated midfield with the Sky

Blues content to hit on the counter, with chances falling to both sides. However a flurry of goals in a five minute spell at the end of the first half saw City head in with a four nil lead.
Sydney FC emerged the brighter of the two teams in the second 45, with Leena Khamis seeing an effort saved within the first minute of the restart, with Jasmyne Spencer proving particularly troublesome on the right flank.
After dominating possession until the 60th minute the Sky Blues

conceded their fifth as Tabain tapped home following an outstanding parry from Betos in goal from Crummer’s initial shot.
Teresa Polias looked to pull one back for the Sky Blues from the penalty spot after Trudi Camilleri was fouled with five minutes remaining, however Burke stood
tall to deny the Sydney FC captain as Ayres then took the ball up the other end to score City’s sixth and
seal victory.
