PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Be careful out there!! I know we all have been chomping at the bit to get out and ride and I know many of you already have been racking up the miles. But it is a jungle out there!! Every day I see somewhere on the Internet or on a bumper sticker pleading to the general public to "watch out for motorcycles" well guess what?? WE as motorcyclist have to be TWICE as vigil watching out for the general public!!! Every day I see people out there who STILL are talking on their cell phones, who think the law does not apply to them! For those who don't know last year I totaled my motorcycle because of a person who believed the law didn't pertain to them....a month after my accident, very good friends of mine lost their son in a tragic motorcycle accident. I don't think I need to prattle on here about the love of motorcycle riding to this crowd. I know we all can agree on the therapeutic effect of being in the wind. But what I will say to ALL my Central Vermont H.O.G. brothers and sisters is, Ride Smart, Ride Safe, Be vigil, DON'T become a statistic. Hope to see you all out there soon!! Hello Members, I hope this letter finds everyone doing well; I'm sure by now most of you have been out for that first ride. Weather permitting I'll be picking my bike up from storage this Saturday. I would encourage everyone to take it a little easy the first couple of rides, after a long drawn out winter we are all a little rusty. Our Executive Rd. Capt. Kevin has been working on putting the ride schedule together. I will be leading the first Chapter ride of the season on May,9th we will meet at P&H Truck Stop Wells River VT at 9:15 kick stands up at 9:30. We will head to Lancaster NH take part of the Presidential Hwy. heading to North Conway for lunch then over the Kancamagus to Lincoln and back to P&H. I would like to remind everyone, that your welcome to invite a friend along for a chapter ride regardless if they are a member or not (all they have to do is sign a waiver).

FYI one of our Chapter mem-bers Michael Leafe (Micky) suffered an inju-ry while working on his house. Micky’s accident resulted in two broken wrist, nasty gash to his head, and many bumps and bruises. So let’s keep (Micky) in our thoughts, He was optimistic when I spoke to him the other day. April Social - Meeting Minutes Our April Social was held at Wilkins Harley-Davidson on April 14th beginning at 6:30 p.m. Chapter Director Brion Muzzy opened the meeting by thanking veterans, police officers, and EMTs who were present for their ser-vice, and by leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance. John Lyon, General Manager of Wilkins, shared the 5 top things to do when getting your bike out from winter storage: 1. Check your tires: tire pressure, tire condition (particularly any cracks in the sidewalls), tread depth 2. Check the oil: start your motorcycle and get the engine hot before checking the oil level 3. Check all lights: make sure all lights are working -- head light(s) high and low beams, directional signals, brake lights 4. Check for signs of leaks: check the floor under your bike before moving it to see if anything has been leaking and address any concerns 5. Verify that your inspection, insurance, and registration are all up to date. Upcoming events at Wilkins: Charity Ride on May 9th – $20 donation to benefit Central Vermont HOG member Mark Breer. Gather at Wilkins at noon for hotdogs before the ride. The ride will begin at 1 p.m. and will end at Mulligan’s Irish Pub. 4-6 p.m. - Silent Auction and raffled Prizes. Music by Stone Bullet. ‘Ride to Maine – Remember Alan Wilkins’ on May 16th and 17th If you want to travel with the group, be prepared to leave Wilkins at 4 p.m. There will be some interstate travel. Watch the calendar for information as to the final destination. Plan on going out for lobstah on Sunday and returning later that day. Construction on the Wilkins building expansion and proposed parking lot will be starting soon. Justen Elliot (Assistant Director) announced that enough people signed up for the ERC course to be held in Grafton, NH to neces-sitate two sessions – May 23rd and 24th. Sixteen people from Central Vermont HOG have signed up. It is looking good for the dealer-ship to get a plaque from National HOG for having at least a dozen people completing the course in a 12-month period. Chris Deane (Activities Director) reported that a group of people had gone on the Paine Mtn Brewery tour outing and had a great time. He shared a letter from The Vermont Foodbank Volunteer Coordinator, who thanked the 16 volunteers from our HOG Chapter who worked a ‘Sort-a-thon’ day in late March and set a record for processing the most in a single session: 24 pallets of mixed non-perishables and 16 pallets of assorted frozen meats. The Chapter will volunteer again on November 21st. There will be a movie night at Wilkins, beginning at 7 p.m. on April 24th. We voted to see ‘The World’s Fastest Indian’. April 25th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. will be our first HOG Swap/yard sale at Wilkins, probably across the street from the show room building so it can be under cover if need be. Food will be sold to benefit the Chapter. Richard Pitonyak (WebMaster) reports that Newsletters are now available online via our Chapter Website. http://www.centralvermonthog.com/ Treasurer Joyce Luttrell reported that our account balance was $1,732.57 in mid-March and had increased to $1,868.02 (to date) in April.

April Social - Meeting Minutes (cont.) Executive Road Captain, Kevin Frost let us know about the first Chapter rides that will be coming up in the next month: May 9th ride to be led by Justen Elliot starting from P&H truck stop in Newbury, VT at 9:30 a.m. Tentative plan is to head over the Kancamagus Highway. VT Thunder Ride May 24th to be led by Dennis Aja starting from Wilkins at 9:30 a.m. May 30th ride to be led by Chris Deane – details to come, but likely to be heading to Lake George area. Member Joe Benning would like to organize a group ride that will begin Sept 5th and will involve 2 weeks (including two weekends) of riding, starting out with Memphis as the first destination, followed by the Blues Highway, Vicksburg, Chase Park Parkway, possibly New Orleans, various Civil War sites – plan on riding around 300 miles per day, for a total of around 4000. Details (like anticipated cost) to follow. Justen Elliot shared the details of a July trip he and his wife Mi Yong took to Prince Edward Island. Among the places they visited: St Stephen, New Brunswick (“Canada’s Chocolate Town”); Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (called the "Birthplace of Confederation" after the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference which led to Confederation) ; Green Gables (of famed ‘Anne of Green Gables’); crossed the Confederate Bridge; and traveled the Cabot Trail! He shared a great slide show. Following Justen’s presentation was time for socializing and sharing some great sandwiches and sweet treats. We reconvened for door prizes and the 50/50 raffle.

Well, it is finally here! The first of May and riding season is beginning. We have had a few good rain showers and the roads are getting cleaned up. You will still find sand on the edge of the road and also around intersections, not to mention the cracks and pot holes in the roads. The road construction projects are starting to get underway also. Be very careful when going through any road project. Sometimes the road surfaces will change with very little warning from pavement to dirt or loose gravel. Keep this in mind when near any construction project. Beware of new pavement also. It can be slick at first, especially if it is wet. Coming up in the month of May, we have Justen leading a ride on Sat. May 9th. He will be leaving P&H truck stop @ 9:30 to head to Lancaster, NH, N. Conway, and back home on the Kancamagus Highway. Sunday May 24th is the VT. Thunder Ride led by Dennis and leaving from Wilkin's @ 9:30. The ride will be one-way, ending there. Bikers may choose to go on ahead w/ others to Enosburg if they wish. Saturday, May 30th is a ride led by Chris leaving Williston. Meet-up is at Exit 12, Sunoco station @ 9:00. He will be travelling south to Lake George, NY for a lunch stop. Coming up Saturday, June 6th, Leon is leading a ride to Southern VT. Sunday, June 14th, Kevin is leading a ride to Bethel, Maine for BBQ, leaving Wilkin's @ 9:00. Saturday, June 20th, Kevin is leading a one-way ride to Laconia, leaving Wilkin's @ 7:30am. June 27th, Sat., is a Ladies of Harley ride led by Jim and Karen. Details TBA. Sunday June 28th, is the annual Blessing of the Bikes ride led by Dennis to a new venue in Groveton, NH. Details TBA. ALWAYS arrive 15 minutes prior to a ride's starting time. Kevin

Activities Director-Chris Deane

Hello Everyone, It’s the end of April and in between the rain and frigid temperatures, I’ve managed to get out on my bike half a dozen times now. I hope all

of you have been able to get a few rides in yourselves! Like March, April turned out to be a fairly busy month for chapter relat-ed activities with several folks showing up for movie night as well as the HOG swap/biker yard sale. I’d like to extend my thanks to John Lyon and Wilkin’s HD for allowing us the time and space to be able to conduct both of these events! Without their support, we wouldn’t be able to do many of the fun things that we do. Now that

we are getting into riding season, there will be less non-riding chapter activities (other than the monthly socials and some of the events Wilkins puts on). That being said, please review the ride schedule and look at some of the great rides that Kevin and his road captains have planned for the summer. I plan to be on many of them and hope to see you all out there too. Please have fun and be safe out there! Chris P.S. As I mentioned in last months newsletter, several of us were volunteering at the Foodbank later in the month (photo’s below). Thanks to everyone that volunteered their time!
