Page 2: Vegetables!

A vegetable is a plant grown for its edible part (you usually can’t eat all of it, only the roots, stems, leaves, etc.)

Vegetables also have much less simple sugars (fructose) in them than vegetables- that is why they are less sweet!

Vegetables do not develop from flowers, while fruits do.

What is a vegetable?

Really a fruit, the winter melon is eaten as a vegetable.

It is fuzzy when it is young! When it is mature, it can be stored for up

to 12 months!Because of this, it is eaten in Southeast

Asia during the winter and that is how it got its name.

It is also eaten during New Years!

Beets have nutrients that guard your body against cancer and heart disease!

In Eastern Europe, Beets are made into a vegetable soup known as Borsht (When the astronauts of Apollo 18 and Soyuz 19 met in space, they served borsht).

Beets are high in natural sugars.

Technically a fruit, most people consider them a vegetable for nutrition reasons

These cucumbers are bred to be seedless, and the skin is usually thinner than a normal cucumber

Cucumbers are 95% water and they also prevent bad breath by killing bacteria in your mouth.
