MOUNTAIN BROOK BAPTIST CHURCH

55+ MINISTRY

(Ministry for Adults 55+)

July is here! It is time for our annual sum-mer fun event! In past years ACTIVE Chris-tian Living members attended a Hawaiian Luau, Western Hoedown, and last year Thurs-Day FRY-Day (fish fry). Each summer there is a fun evening of food, fellowship and music.

This year the event will be on July 19 at 6 pm in Heritage Hall. It will be a Mexican FIESTA with Mexican food, decorations and music by a mariachi band. Heritage Hall will be decorated for a festive atmosphere, and Carrie Hanson, our church hostess, will prepare us a delicious Mexican meal. The price is $10 per person.

The entertainment will be provided by the Mariachi Band Garibaldi. Mariachi Band Garibaldi is a Latin American mariachi ensemble based in Montgomery, which plays regularly in the Birmingham area. The group was founded in New York

City in 1988 by José “Evaristo” Hernandez, a native of Nicaragua who was trained at the national conservatory in Managua. Before coming to the United States he played pro-fessionally as a mariachi with Cocibolca.

Soon after the group was organized, Her-nandez moved the group South to Miami, Florida and then to Atlanta, Georgia where it remained for nine years before moving to Montgomery in 1998.

Bring your family, friends and neighbors to enjoy this evening of fellowship. This would be a great time to bring prospects to meet and enjoy time with other Christian adults. Make your reservations today! You can also register at http://signup.com/go/fYvARMH

Skeins of Yarn Needed

If you have any skeins of yarn that you have not used that you would like to donate, please bring them to the church office for Pat Ferguson

A group of women will be crocheting lap or knee warmers for members who must stay in a chair because of their health. At a future date there will be a meeting to review our plans and teach those who want to be a part of this ministry. Let Pat Ferguson know if you are interested.

Church-wide Service Day

October will be here before you know it. Our church’s Service Day is Saturday, October 6, 2018. There will be opportunities in the community for clean up and fix up, but for those who need less labor inten-sive assignments there will be special projects in the gym.

One project will be to create a small Christmas decoration using Christmas greenery and different dec-orations. If you have any Christmas greenery that you want to contribute to this project, please contact Pat Ferguson.
