Z BAR MOUNTING BRACKETS AND PIPE HANGERS

Rosemex designed mounting brackets and pipe hangers sim-plify the installation process by providing space for pipingbehind the coil on vertical units. There is a built-in pipe chaseon low vertical units Designed to work together, the pipehanger fits into a slotted section of the mounting bracket andhangs downward. Pipe hangers are made of heavy steel wireand are constructed to support supply and return piping (pip-ing can range up to 3/4” in diameter with 1” insulation). Z barmounting brackets secure to the wall assuring solid unit instal-lation.

DESIGN FEATURES MAINTAINEFFICIENT COMFORT CONTROL..

REDUCE INSTALLATION TIMEAND COSTS

The Rosemex Induction Unit utilizes the induction principle toeffectively blend clean external air, conditioned in a central sta-tion air handler, with filtered room air for steady seasonal com-fort control. This Rosemex system is ideal for application inlarge office buildings and hospitals where the need for aperimeter system is necessary to save space while maintain-ing comfortable internal air conditions.

Available in over 1800 sizes, coil and nozzle combinations andarrangements, Rosemex Induction Unit provides the engineerwith the most practical selection, in terms of initial cost andenergy conservation, for each individual situation. All modelsinclude design features that reduce installation costs and pro-vide low operating sound levels.

Total system installation costs are minimized through uniquedesign features developed by Rosemex. Both vertical and lowvertical units include an integral pipe chase which saves spacefor pipe installation. The chase requires no structural changesand saves the material and labor costs of constructing a sep-arate pipe chase in the field. An additional Z bar bracket isrequired to provide space for the integral pipe chase on thevertical unit.

Standard circular primary air connections and discharge ductcollars speed up installation because of their compatibility withprimary air supply ducts and cabinet discharge grilles.

Additional Rosemex Induction Unit features include a readilyaccessible, but tamper-proof, push-pull damper which simpli-fies system balancing; an optional drain connection; and fieldreversible coil for installation ease.

All vertical and low vertical units can be either floor or wallmounted. Mounting brackets, designed by Rosemex, add flex-ibility to installation requirements. Coil connections aredesigned for maximum clearance between the supply andreturn allowing enough space to make sweat or flare connec-tions quickly and easily.

These features, combined with the rugged unit construction ofthe vertical, horizontal and low vertical models, enable the con-tractor to furnish a quality installation while reducing time andcosts.

QUIET OPERATION MEETS CONTEMPORARY SOUND POWER DEMANDS

Contemporary architecture has resulted in structures thatrequire more efficient heating and cooling to maintain season-al comfort conditions. Paralleling this need for high standardoperation, the requirement of quieter operating sound levelshas become prominent in relation to comfort and productivity. The end result shows a major consideration toward operatingsound levels when selecting induction equipment.

To comply with this new demand, Rosemex Induction Unit hasbeen designed to meet the most stringent acoustical require-ments.

UNIQUE INSULATED AIR PATH

A major element of Rosemex Induction Unit's low operatingsound level is a unique, acoustically lined, 1/2" by 6" air pas-sage downstream from the balancing damper. A 90 degreeturn against insulating material and the narrow shape of the airpassage effectively dampen air noise.

BALANCING DAMPER

The self sealing balancing damper guards against high pressureair leaks, yet is easily adjustable for system balance. Cast zincunit ends eliminate the possibility of leaking air seams and airbypass, reinforcing the concept of low operating sound levels.

ACOUSTICAL SELECTION TABLES

Rosemex Induction Unit’s reputation of quiet operation isbacked by tables found later in this catalog. The simplicity ofthe table information and layout aids the designer in selectinga unit whose capacity will meet project sound requirements.

UNIT OPERATION

A constant volume of high velocity, preconditioned primaryair provides the motive power in an induction system. Itenters the internal section of the unit plenum and passesthrough the balancing damper. The damper is adjusted atstart-up to provide the required nozzle static pressure. Afterthe damper, the air passes through a sound attenuating com-partment to the nozzle strips. When this high velocity airpasses through the nozzles, it creates an area of reducedpressure behind the secondary water coil. This reduced pres-sure induces room air through the unit coil. The coil controlsthe heating and/or cooling of the room air. A secondary watercontrol valve, regulated by the space thermostat, varies unitcapacity to offset room loads. The tempered room air mixeswith the primary air in the discharge stack and is then emit-ted into the room. The primary air provides required ventila-tion and, by varying moisture content, maintains humidityconditions during any season.

The unique insulated air path of Induction Unit is diagramedbelow. High velocity air passes through the primary airdamper, turns against acoustical material, flows into a nar-row passage that has a high ratio of absorption to cross sec-tion, and then through the nozzles. The shape and insulationof this air path removes a major portion of the air turbulencesounds.

GENERAL COMMENTS ON SYSTEM DESIGN

It is generally accepted that minimum total system cost isachieved when minimum amounts of primary air and sec-ondary water are used. However, the unit must be selected ator above 0.50 inches nozzle static pressure to insure maxi-mum nozzle efficiency and relative ease of system air balance.Water side coil pressure drop should be kept under 17 feet toreadily balance the system. Although minimizing these parameters requires longer induc-tion units to match module loads, offsetting economies arerealized in piping, installation, pumps, high velocity ductwork, and air handling equipment. Normally these energy savingoperating economies more than compensate the owner for thehigher first cost of longer units. Because of this potential sav-ings, unit selection should begin by determining the longest

unit that can be installed in a given module. Considerationmust be given to minimum nozzle static and water pressuredrops, and the space required for piping, valves, and the pri-mary air connection. Then the temperature and minimumamount of primary air and secondary water needed to satisfydesign load conditions, ventilation requirements, changeovertemperature, sound level, and desired humidity can be final-ized. In a changeover system consideration should also be given tothe ability of the unit to offset heat losses in the evening hoursand on weekends by means of gravity (air off) heating. If suffi-cient capacity is available it will not be necessary to operatethe primary air system during these hours resulting in furtherenergy and cost savings.

SECTION PROCEDURE

The tables on pages 7-24 contain unit capacities and noise cri-teria information based on the following parameters.1. Primary air sensible cooling capacity: ∆T (Room - PA) = 20°

Temperature difference between room air and primary air.Primary air capacity for 20° ∆T is conveniently shown in theselection chart. (Second column from left). For other than20°∆T, the primary air capacity can be computed as follows:P.A. Capacity = CFM X 1.085 X ∆T.

2. Secondary coil cooling capacity is based on a 25°∆T(Room-Entering water temp). For other than 25° ∆T see thefactors in table 4. The capacity factors for other than 25° ∆Tare computed as follows: X where X = the degree ∆T other than 25°.

3. Secondary coil capacity is based on a water flow rate of 1.5GPM for all units 16 to 72”, 2.0 GPM for 76 to 84” units. Seetable 5 for factors at other flow rates.

4. Noise criteria (NC) levels for medium room are based onattenuation effects of 3.0, 6.9, 7.5, 8.5, 8.5, 8.6 and 8.5 inthe 2nd through 8th octave bands.

5. Free area of discharge and inlet grilles must be in accor-dance with table 9, page 29, to obtain catalog capacity.

Whenever correction factors are required, they are to be mul-tiplied by the catalog capacity to get the actual capacity.

COOLING SELECTIONThe Rosemex Induction Unit's function is to offset module heatgain or loss. The design engineer should complete a schedulewhich will specify the maximum cooling and heating loadsrequired of each module. The combination of primary air andsecondary coil capacities must off-set the modular loadthroughout the year.

DB/WB 75°/62°Room dew point 54°

Step 2Determine primary air sensible cooling capacity and secondarycoil load. Primary air capacity = CFM x 1.085 ∆T;(where ∆T = Room - P.A.)80 x 1.085 x (75° - 55°) = 1736 BTUHSecondary Coil load = 6700 - 1736 = 4964 BTUH

Step 3Check the parameters on which the catalog capacity is based. You will note that the ∆T (Room - EWT) = 24° and since cata-log capacity is based on 25°, a correction must be made. Thecorrection factor is 0.96 as shown in Table 4, AdjustmentFactors For Various ∆T's (24/25 = 0.96) where ∆T = (Room -EWT), which means the actual capacity will be 96% of the cat-alog capacity. You will note that the maximum allowable GPMis 1.6 and the catalog capacity is based on 1.5. See Table 5,Adjustment Factors For Various Water Flow Rates, for the cor-rection factor. The correction factor is 1.01 (assuming the unit will be 44” orshorter) which means that the actual capacity will be 101% ofthe catalog capacity. Since the actual capacity will be 3% lessthan catalog capacity (-4% + 1%), a number must be found inthe tables which is approximately 3% higher than your require-ments.4964 (1.03) = 5113 BTUH

Step 4Refer to the proper selection table and select the unit which willmeet the corrected secondary coil capacity, the NC limit andthe maximum allowable unit length at the CFM specified. Startwith Nozzle A and go on to B, X, etc. as needed. Optimumselection is HPV 40C @ 5605 BTUH, 2.1 NSP and NC 33.Under the existing conditions, the secondary coil capacity willbe 5605 (0.96) (1.01) = 5435 BTUH.

HEATING SELECTION (AIR ON)The cooling selection is more critical than the heating, due tothe lower ∆T (RM - EWT). The heating ∆T (EWT- RM) is gen-erally 3 or more times greater than the cooling ∆T, therefore,

the heating capacity is 3 or more times greater than the cool-ing. In most cases, the required heating capacity can beobtained with the secondary coil, allowing the P.A. tempera-ture to stay at 55°. The coldest areas of the country, however, may require heated primary air in addition to hot water to meetheating requirements.

Step 1Determine Unit Requirements

Total heating capacity 16,000 BTUHEntering water temp. 170°Primary air temp. 55°

Step 2Determine the heating capacity of the unit previously selected:Heating capacity is determined by (Cooling coil capacity)

(Heating ∆T)(Cooling ∆T)± QPA* = Heating capacity

where QPA = (CFM x 1.085 x ∆T) = 1736 BTUHwhere ∆T = (Room - PA)

5435170 - 75

- 1736 = 19,77875 - 51

Required secondary coil heating capacity is 19,778 BTUH.

GRAVITY HEATING SELECTION(Air off heating)

Step 1Unit capacity requirements

Required gravity heat BTUH 5000 BTUHEntering water temp. 200°Room design temp. 60°

Step 2Determine ITD

ITD (Initial Temperature DifferenceEWT - RM) 140°

Step 3Refer to Gravity Heating Capacities. The gravity heatingcapacities chart on page 25, Table 6, must be used to deter-mine the gravity heating capacity per degree ITD. 40 inch unit,BTUH per ° ITD = 54

ExampleRequired BTUH

= BTUH per °ITDITD5000 BTUH

= 35.7 BTUH per °ITD140°The value listed in the Gravity Heating Capacities Table is themaximum BTUH per °ITD that the unit can deliver. A forty inchunit has a maximum value of 54 BTUH per °ITD and only 35.7is needed, so the gravity heating is acceptable for the forty inchunit. The HPV 40C will provide a total of 7560 BTUH of gravi-ty heating (54 BTUH per °ITD x 140° = 7560 BTUH). Therefore, the HPV40C unit wilI satisfy the heating require-ments.

* If primary air temperature is less than room design, PA capacity issubtracted from secondary coil heating capacity.

1. To compute increased weights for double coil units, use 1.45 as multiplier of single coil weight.2. Use standard unit coil weights for split coil units.

BASIC UNITThe basic unit includes a primary airplenum with primary air inlet, air bal-ancing damper, multi-stage nozzles, secondary coil or coils, galvanizeddrain pan and discharge stack.

PRIMARY AIR PLENUMPlenum is constructed of 24 gauge gal-vanized steel. Die cast zinc end piecesand sealed joints guard against leak-age. Plenum is lined with 3/8” thick fourpound density insulation fiberglass.

NOZZLESMulti-stage nozzles in vertical strips areprecision molded from a heat resistantthermo-plastic material (polypropy-lene). Nozzles are designed for operat-ing temperatures of -20 F to 200 F withpressures up to 3.5 inches waterguage. Nozzles strips are sealed andlocked mechanically to the nozzleframe.

DAMPERThe internal air balancing damper withmultiple hole design extends full lengthof plenum. The damper is adjusted by amanual push-pull operator located nextto the primary air inlet. The operator ison the right hand end on model V and Hand on the left hand end on model Lunits.

COILSOne row coils are ten, eleven, or 13 3/8”high, constructed of 7/16” O.D. seam-less copper tubes mechanically bondedto aluminum fins spaced 175 per foot.Maximum working pressure is 300 Ibs.Coils are leak tested at 200 PSI (airunder water). All water coils are avail-able as L.H. or R.H. and are fieldreversible.

DRAIN PANGalvanized steel secured to coil. Drainconnection (optional) accepts 5/8 inchO.D. copper tube. Available either right-or left-hand connection.

OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES

LINT SCREENScreen is single ply corrugated alu-minum with 1/4” thick aluminum frame.

FLARE CONNECTIONS1/2” O.D. male flare coil connectionswith or without manual air vents.

WALL MOUNTING STRIPSGalvanized steel, 6” in length, madefrom 14 gauge steel. Two per unit.

INTEGRAL PIPE CHASE(Standard on low vertical units) createdon vertical units by two 14 gauge Z-barhangers, 6 inches long, one at eachend of unit.
