Specification Guide for TRIATEK VV- Series Air Valve (non-insulated)
CONSTRUCTION
Valve housing shall be constructed of 16 gauge aluminum with internal components of aluminum and
stainless steel. Critical moving parts shall use Teflon®
bushings for reduced friction, smooth operation and
extended life. Internal moving parts shall be constructed of 316 stainless steel, except aluminum body valves
shall have its cone constructed of aluminum. Valve body shall be formed in a venturi configuration to produce smooth variation in delivered air flow control. Valve shall be pressure independent over a span of
0.4 to 3"WC pressure drop across the valve without means of external monitoring devices such as
mechanical volume regulators, flow control tubing or duct static measuring devices. For acid resistance
valves shall be manufactured with Stainless Steel 304 or 316 body, cone and all internal parts as specified
options. As an alternate construction option, the aluminum valve body and cone shall be treated with two
coats of Heresite P403 or equivalent phenolic coating.
PERFORMANCE
All valves shall be factory calibrated and the CFM modulation range factory set for the maximum and
minimum indicated on the schedule. Pressure independent response to changes in duct static shall be no
greater than one second to maintain the set airflow. Airflow accuracy shall be within five percent of reading.
Airflow turndown ratio shall be no less than eight to one. The CFM setting shall be capable of being field
adjusted by means of an external calibrated dial. At any given CFM setting, from minimum to maximum
CFM, the valve shall require no periodic maintenance. A minimum of 6 feet of acoustically lined ductwork
shall be installed downstream of the flow control valve and before each room outlet. The valve manufacturer
shall supply sound power levels and NC rating based on ADC equipment test code 1062R3 and ASHRAE
standard 36-72 with a reference level of 10-12 watts.
VALVE ACTUATOR
Pneumatic Control - All variable volume valves shall be equipped with a pneumatic actuator furnished by the
valve manufacturer and mounted on the valve and set up by the valve manufacturer. Actuator supplier shall be as determined by the valve manufacturer. As an alternate the actuator may be supplied by others and
mounted and set up by the valve manufacturer with prior authorization. Valve actuators shall be installed so
that the valve shall be normally closed. As an alternate the valve can be specified to be supplied normally
open. When a pneumatic actuator is supplied, the spring range shall be 8 to 13 psi. Alternate spring ranges
may be specified and supplied accordingly if available.
Electronic Control - All variable volume valves shall be equipped with an electronic actuator furnished by
the valve manufacturer and mounted on the valve and set up by the valve manufacturer. The actuator shall be
powered by a 24 VAC transformer supplied by the manufacturer. The electronic actuator shall be controlled
by a 4 to 20 mA input (across a precision 500-Ohm resistor, supplied) or a 2 to 10 VDC input signal. The
valve manufacturer must be able to supply electronic actuators that can operate over the full range of thevalve in 3 seconds maximum.
CONSTANT VOLUME
Constant volume valves shall be of the same construction and specification as the variable volume valve less
any actuator. Air flow rate shall be factory set but manually adjustable in the field.
