with all relevant legislation.

The Centre has comprehensive risk assessments covering the site, use

of transportation, all activities and all locations used for activities.

These identify the hazards, who might be harmed, existing control

measures and what needs to be done to ensure a risk controlled

environment. These are available for inspection on site.

Staff Training is comprehensive and on-going.

The centre has detailed procedures in place in case of emergencies.

Incidents, accidents and feedback are reviewed weekly in

departmental team meetings.

Risk Assessments and Emergency Procedures are reviewed annually

by the centre leadership team.

The centre is inspected by the Fire Officer and recommendations are

acted upon.

All safety equipment is inspected and maintained by qualified staff.

There is a first aid trained duty person available 24 hours a day

Fire Safety

Groups are usually accommodated in self contained areas of the

centre and bunk bedded rooms do not lock because of fire risks to

younger children.

There is a practical fire drill for every group on the first evening.

Particular problems of a fire at night in a large unfamiliar building

are clearly outlined during this time.

The fire alarm system, fire extinguishers, fire alarm points and smoke

detectors are all serviced regularly.

and Abseiling at Dancing Ledge.

responsible for the group members throughout their visit to the Centre.

Our staff supervise the groups during programmed activities, but overall

responsibility remains with visiting staff members.

Swimming Pool

The pool is kept locked and groups may only use the pool when a qualified

Lifeguard or Pool Attendant is present. Proof of qualification must be seen.

The centre has full, written Pool Safety Operating Procedures (PSOPs)

The PSOPs are reviewed annually by the centre leadership team.

Security

All groups receive an orientation on the day of arrival covering site boundaries,

guidelines for behaviour, and emergency contact details.

All accommodation units are accessible by individual key code.

All visitors must register with the reception.

Any unknown person on the site will be politely challenged by centre staff.

The outer doors are all fitted with keypads and are locked by the duty person at

10pm. Group Leaders are given the code for their building on arrival should they

need to go outside after that time.

It is not necessary to enter the accommodation areas of other groups.

All leaders’ rooms are lockable and a key provided.
