CS-2 Hardware Setup and Operation

Note: The unit should always be turned “on” and “off” from the back panel power switch. This will allow the user to reset the unit when the rack is powered down. If the unit is powered off by the windows program or by the front panel power switch pressing the front panel switch is the only way to turn the unit “on” again.

CS-2 Introduction: The CS-2 is the Control Station that synchronizes prerecorded translation commentary, audio description, and personal captions to live theatrical productions. The CS-2 stores up to 20 hours of audio and scripts on a high quality hard drive system. The controller advances cues either by midi show-control, midi note, or midi time code. The software is easy to use and maintain. The unit is also equipped with an internal modem allowing remote access for software updates, uploading cue changes, and downloading log files. The CS-2 sends cue advances for slides via a standard Wireless LAN connected through CAT 5E cable. The CS-2 sends out cue numbers for each PDA via the local area network and the slides are stored in the PDA on flash RAM cards. The composite video output utilizes a standard RCA (phono) connection, while the prerecorded audio outputs via three unbalanced stereo 3.5 mm jacks. CS-2 Getting Started: The CS-2 device ships with power cord, cue editor software, wireless router and instruction manual. Additional equipment used with the CS-2 are PS-2 keyboard and mouse, VGA monitor, USB memory stick (or USB hard drive), SD memory card and wireless PDA. The unit has the following features. Hardware connections: The CS-2 rack mounts in a 4 space rack with a depth of 25 inches or greater.

Midi Connections: The CS-2 has up to 4 midi inputs or 3 midi inputs with SMPTE time code on specified models. These inputs control the timing of the audio and video outputs during a live performance. The CS-2 reads midi show control, SMPTE time code, midi time code, midi notes and midi machine code to synchronize the slides and audio segments to the action on stage. The control station can read 4 separate devices independently so multiple devices / operators can sequence the commentary and captions. The midi connection terminates with a standard 5 pin DIN 180 degree connector. If the midi device is located more than 33 ft (10 meters) from the CS-2 control station it is recommended to put a midi extender or midi balancer in line.

Note: Midi show control is preferred for at least one channel since show control sends cue numbers along with the other information to tell the CS-2 exactly were it is in the performance. In stage performances we find lighting consoles to have the most cues and keep the best time with the show.

Audio Connections: The CS-2 has 3 unbalanced stereo audio outputs while the CS-2 light has only 1 stereo audio output. This allows the CS-2 to output up to 3 stereo or 6 mono channels of pre-recorded audio commentary or audio description. Each stereo pair can have different cue timings.

The audio connections terminate with a 3.5mm stereo jack. When audio is required to travel further than 33 ft (10 m) than an audio balancer is recommended. Wireless Router Connection: Each CS-2 and CS-2L comes with one wireless router. The router connects the CS-2 to a maximum of 100 PDA’s. The PDA’s are used for wireless closed captioning, subtitling or running controlled rehearsals. The router connects to the CS-2 with a standard CAT-5 cable terminated in a RJ45 connector. The cable length to first router should not exceed 500ft. Multiple routers can be used to cover more area in a venue. Each additional router should have the same IP address as the one supplied with the unit (see label on top of router) but should have a different channel and frequency. It is also recommended that the router should be set to a frequency not already being transmitted in the seating area. Simply scanning the area with a laptop or PDA with a wireless network card will show what wireless networks and transmission frequency are in the area. Video Connection: The CS-2 has one video output that displays the slides of loaded Power Point presentation. This can be used to display the slides via a projector, monitor, or via wireless video transmission. The video resolution is 800 x 600 and terminates in a RCA (phono) connection. Modem Connection: The modem connection is terminated with standard RJ 12 phone plug. Connect to any working phone line. The CS-2 can be accessed with PC Anywhere version 10.0 or later. This will allow access to cue files, logs, audio material, video material, and rehearsal files for a remote user. Power Connections: The CS-2 is shipped with the input voltage set to 115 VAC 50-60 Hz unless otherwise specified. The CS-2 is furnished with a detachable AC power cord rated for 15 A at 115 VAC that plugs into a 15 A outlet. The input voltage can be changed via the back panel. Simply slide the voltage switch from 115 volt position to the 230 volt position. Power for the unit can be turned on and off by the back panel switch.

Note: The unit should always be turned “on” and “off” from the back panel power switch. This will allow the user to reset the unit when the rack is powered down. If the unit is powered off by the windows program or by the front panel power switch pressing the front panel switch is the only way to turn the unit “on” again.

Keyboard, Mouse, and Monitor Connections: A standard PS-2 style keyboard and mouse can be connected to the CS-2. A standard VGA or SVGA monitor can be added for setup and monitoring the system. The monitor uses a standard 15-pin cable that should not exceed 33ft (10m).



Audio File Creation and Saving: The audio files for the CS-2 are saved in a wav file format and are loading onto the hard drive by a USB flash stick, USB hard drive or CD-ROM. The total audio segment should not exceed 20 hours or 9,999 files. The audio files must be saved as stereo wav files with odd number channels recorded on the left channel and even number channel on the right channel. Note: When uploading form a USB device the audio files, PowerPoint Presentations, and cue files must be in the main directory of the device and not in a subfolder. The CS-2 automatically searches for files to upload in the main directory of USB storage device.

File Uploading: Audio files, Power Point presentations, and cue files can be upload quickly via a USB data storage device (Files must be in the main directory and not in a subfolder). Simply plug the USB device into the front panel USB connection. Press the “Enter” key on the front panel of the CS-2 then the “F2” button to copy files to the CS-2. Follow the instructions on the LCD to continue. The LCD will display how many Power Point Presentations (PPT), Audio Wav files (W), Cue files (C) that are being loaded to the CS-2. Example: PPT: 1, W: 40, C: 0 (1 Power Point Presentation, 40 audio files, and 0 cue files) The audio files will automatically overwrite existing files in the directory C:\Program Files\CS-2\Wiz\Audio Files. The Power Point presentations automatically transfer files to C:\Program Files\CS-2\Wiz\Power Point. The Cue files will automatically transfer Cue files to C:\Program Files\CS-2\Wiz\Cue File and Rehearsal files C:\Program Files\CS-2\Wiz\Rehearsal File. You may also do this process manually by copying files directly to the appropriate folders.

Note: USB storage device does not need to be ejected by the Windows operating system. Simply unplug device once the copy function is complete.



Controls: Pressing the following buttons on the front of the CS-2 will achieve the following results.

Enter then F2: To upload from USB device to CS-2 hard drive; Power Point, Audio Wav Files, and CS-2 Cue files. Enter then F1: To down load files from the CS-2 to USB storage device; Cue / Rehearsal files, log files, Power Point files. F1: To watch incoming midi cues. Up Arrow: to manually advance all files to next cue. Down Arrow: Manually send test lighting cue 123.4 through the looping test port in CS-2. Press enter to exit.

Note: USB storage device does not need to be ejected by the Windows operating

system. Simply unplug device once the copy function is complete. Remote Access Program The CS-2 Remote Access Program can access the control station via a telephone line from a remote location. The program allows the user to perform any of the computer functions as well as any of the front panel functions, along with viewing cue and error logs. Installation: To access the CS-2 a copy of PCAnywhere® by Symantec® version 10.0 or higher must be installed on the remote computer. The external computer must be installed as a remote computer with no security level. After installing PCAnywhere® the CS-2 can be accessed via a modem connection. Please refer to the PCAnywhere® instruction manual for proper installation and special function of the software. Modem Connection: The CS-2 must be connected to its own phone line for proper control remotely. Connect a standard RJ12 phone connector and cable to the modem connector labeled on the back of the CS-2. Once the connection is made a remote computer may contact the CS-2 via pcAnywhere. Open pcAnywhere on the remote computer and highlight the “Remote Control” icon. Then double click on the “Modem “ icon. The program will ask you for the phone number of the CS-2. Note: Make sure you type in the proper phone number with area code and outside line numbers where necessary. Once the number is entered select connect and wait for connection to initialize. The modem connection can take up to 30 seconds to initialize. See warranty for user name and password information. Default username: TODD – Default password: CHEESE Once the connection is made the desk top screen of the CS-2 will appear on the remote computer. The CS-2 can be monitored or controlled in real time. Therefore you can make changes and perform edits while the CS-2 is use.



CS-2 Software Setup and Operation The system synchronizes the captions and prerecorded audio commentary with the program via a complex software package that reads a variety of midi information from show equipment. A rehearsal is run during a performance that synchronizes the slides or audio segments with the appropriate midi fires. This rehearsal can be performed locally through the CS-2 keyboard or remotely through a wireless Pocket PC. The CS-2’s software runs a complex algorithm to automatically find the closest midi fire for each slide or audio piece. This keeps the text and audio in perfect time with the live performance. Getting Started: The CS-2 is shipped completely setup for use. The main page has three main menus and displays the incoming cues from the midi devices.

Rehearsal-Create a new Rehearsal Menu: Menu creates a new rehearsal file for Power Point, Audio 1, Audio 2, Audio 3, PDA A, or PDA B. Utilities Menu: Menu with special functions like: Testing Tools, Manual creating a cue file, virtual display of front panel display and restore factory defaults. CS-2 Setup Options Menu: Menu with CS-2 Main options like cue files and midi and audio assignment. Also contains advanced midi port filters.



Log of Incoming Midi and outgoing events window: Displays the date, time, port, midi type, channel, message information for each received midi fire. This window also displays the outgoing data information in real time. Clear Log Window: Clears the main window information. This does not affect the log file, it only clears the screen. Cue and Power Point Files in use: The yellow area on the main screen shows the cue files currently being used by the CS-2. This area also allows the user to view the data in the cue file by selecting the “View” button next to the appropriate cue file. In addition, the Power Presentation to display via the video output is shown under the “Presentation File” section. These files are selected under the “CS-2 Setup Options” menu. Display Event Log FILE: Displays the current log file for the CS-2 in notepad. Delete Event Log FILE: Deletes the current log file. This should only be performed if the file has been saved or is no longer needed. Networking Information: Displays the number of remote Nexus connections for use with PDA’s. If the Nexus window is closed the remote connection will change from 1 to 0.

Note: The CS-2L may have grayed out areas for feature that are not available. Setup Menus: The CS-2 main setup options page allows the user to assign audio cards, midi ports, Cue files for use, testing features, and SMPTE time code cue intervals.



Audio Card Assignment: Do not change unless instructed by a service technician. This section tells the CS-2 software which sound card plays Q0001a (Audio 1), Q0001b (Audio 2) and Q0001c (Audio 3). These parameters are set at the factory to work best for the CS-2 device. Midi input Assignment: This section assigns the ports on the Midi interface to the Port number. This section should not be changed unless instructed by a service technician. Cue and Power Point Files in Use: This is where you select the cue file timing to use for your show. This will automatically update with the latest file if the manual button is unchecked. The cue files default names are as follows:

To select a file manually, check the manual button and press the browse button. A list of cue files with the appropriate suffix will appear. Different cue file timing can be selected by viewing all files. For example, if audio 1 was timed for language commentary in English and French and audio 2 has the same number of audio files except in Spanish and Japanese then the user can browse and select Cue Audio 1 for audio 2. See graphic below.

Midi Output Port for LOOP BACK Testing: This tells the CS-2 which port on the midi interface is to be used as a feed back loop for testing. Powerpoint Offset: Is the video display offset in points. This may be changed if the video device does not synchronize properly with the CS-2. This will shift the picture horizontally. The default offset is 1050 and a lower number will shift the picture to the left while a higher number to the right. SMPTE cue intervals: Tells the CS-2 to create new unique midi cue every 1, 5, 10 or 20 seconds of SMPTE time code. Since a cue event is logged each time a midi cue is received then the interval should be increased to decrease the size of the log file.



Midi Setup The CS-2 software allows the each midi port to track specific midi information and addresses. Since each midi device sends different information it is sometimes necessary to filter out some of the midi data. Under the midi options menu you can check the information that you want the CS-2 to track for that port. All non-relevant midi data should be unchecked.

Create New Rehearsal from the CS-2: This is performed in the CS-2 program with the use of the keyboard, monitor and mouse.

Note: You must receive at least one midi input cue before a rehearsal can start. It needs to reference a beginning cue.

Note: You must run the whole show. Sections of show can not be added together.



Log of Incoming Midi and outgoing events window: Same as main page log that displays the date, time, port, midi type, channel, message information for each received midi fire. This window also displays the manual cue information sent when pressing the “GO” button in real time. OOPS! I Don’t want to be here button: Used to exit rehearsal without saving. Next Cue To Send: Is the next audio or graphic slide to be manually fire during the rehearsal. The next integer will automatically be populated in this field. However, you can skip to another file by highlighting the area and typing the next audio file or slide to send. GO button: Is used to advance audio files or graphical slides during a rehearsal. The operator can click on the “GO” button or press the space bar to advance cues. Show Over button: Used to save the rehearsal when no more audio or graphic files are to be sent / recorded. This also automatically creates a cue file and populates the “Cue Files in Use” for the type of rehearsal recorded if the manual Boolean is not check in CS-2 setup. (See Setup Menu Section) Cue File Name: Is the name of the cue file automatically created for the rehearsal just run. The cue files default names are as follows:

Example of creating a new PDA A rehearsal:

1. In the CS-2 Program select “Rehearsal-create new rehearsal” menu. 2. Select new PDA A rehearsal to create cue file for the PDA’s presentation. (You can setup

rehearsals for up to 3 separate audio files, 2 PDA files, 1 Power Point file or 1 WTS file.) 3. Once a midi cue is received, press the space bar or click the “GO” button on the screen to

start sending cues. (Remember that the first slide appears on the screen automatically but must be fired again during rehearsal. Audio files can be heard through a wireless receiver for the channel being timed.)

4. Depress space bar or click on “GO” button to advance slides or audio files. 5. Press “Oops” button to exit without saving. 6. When show is over select “Show Over” button on the screen. 7. Select “Yes” to accept the new rehearsal. 8. The program will automatically save the rehearsal with the time and date in the title. 9. (Example: Cue power point 5-19-2004_1-19-16PM.cu1 - “Cue File Name _ Date _ Time.cu1”) 10. The program will automatically update the cue file for the next performance with this newly

created cue file (unless the manual check box is marked in the “Set-up options”. See the section on manually choosing files for more details.)

11. You should see the latest cue file updated on the “main” screen of the CS-2 program.



Utilities menu: The utilities menu allows the user to test the system, view input information, create cue files and restore factory defaults.

Testing Tools Midi Sends: Allows the user to send midi cues back to the CS-2. The orange area allows the user to send specific lighting cue numbers on a specified midi channel to the CS-2. The blue area loops midi note “On” and “Off” signals back into the CS-2. The input looping port is select in the main setup page. (Note the CS-2L does not support this feature.) Testing Tools Advance All Cues: The green area allows the end user to advance all cues, audio and captions, manually or at a timed interval. The user can select the next cue number to send and fire manually from the “manual advance” button. The auto advance interval is measured in seconds. This feature is a good way to test that the CS-2 is outputting the appropriate information and synchronized to the wireless devices. Make Cue File from Rehearsal: Rehearsal files are the real time recording of the inputs and outputs of the CS-2. The Cue file is a reduce version of the Rehearsal file that tells the unit to play or send an internal cue after a specific midi / show cue. This feature allows the user to make a cue file from an existing rehearsal file. If a Rehearsal was performed by a remote computer and the Cue file was not transferred, a cue file can be made from this menu.



Virtual Display: This is a desk top display of the front panel controls. All of the front panel controls can be performed from this display. Used mainly when CS-2 is located in a remote location with limited access.

SMPTE Display: Used with CS-2 units equipped with a SMPTE interface. This display shows the running time of the SMPTE input. Individual ports may be selected to watch running time. Midi Show Control cues will be automatically fired at a predetermined SMPTE time segment selecting in the main setup screen. At each interval a unique midi fire will be recorded.



Nexus Software: The Nexus software is the connection and monitoring program between the CS-2 Main Station and the individual PDA’s. The Nexus maintains and monitors the connection so the PDA’s maintain the most reliable connection and log any disconnects due to signal lost. Nexus A connects all PDA’s set to “PDA-A” while Nexus B connects all PDA’s set to “PDA-B”. Nexus C is only used in running a silent rehearsal from the PDA (see “Run a Rehearsal” section of this manual) and creating memory card files from a Power Point presentation for I-Caption® PDA’s. The Nexus program performs the following tasks:

Try’s to connect each PDA in use to Port 0 every 2 sec. Once a PDA connects it is reassigned to the next available Port starting at 1. The Nexus software logs every connect and disconnect and monitors the activity to make sure

all connections are valid. Once a connection is made and the PDA disconnects for 7 sec. the Nexus software will close

the connection and try to reconnect every 7 seconds. (Ex. Patron goes to the lobby or bathroom where there is no wireless signal, the system will try to reconnect every 7 seconds.)

After 90 seconds with no connection that port on the Nexus will close and log the date and time.

PDA Status: Show the number of PDA’s currently connected. Note – The Nexus program tries to reconnect to a PDA that has lost connection for approximately 90 seconds before recording that it has lost connection. CS-2 Status: Although the CS-2 program and Nexus program are stored on the same platform the programs can be “closed” independently therefore a status indicator shows if the CS-2 software is connected to the Nexus software. Green – connected, Red – not connected. Testing Tools: Allows the technician the send test cues to the PDA group. From the PDA-A Nexus you can send cue files to fire for all PDA-A units. Data Window: The main data window shows the connection date, time, IP address and running total of connected PDA’s. Log: Displays a log or history of connections. This log is used to see if connections are being dropped during a show. Nexus on IP: Displays the IP address of the host CS-2 computer.



Live Text: Allows a technician to input live text to display on a PDA. Live Text is selected and text information is typed or copied into the Live Text Box. Clicking the “Send Live Text” button will send that text information to all the PDA’s in that group (PDA-A or PDA-B).

Nexus C: Nexus C is a phantom Nexus used when a silent rehearsal is run. A silent rehearsal is the same as a regular rehearsal except the cue fires have no effect on any of the devices being used for that performance. For example if you are re-timing a PDA “A” presentation you can perform a silent rehearsal and not affect that night’s performance. However, when the operator selects “Show Over” the rehearsal and cue file will automatically load in as in the normal rehearsal. (See Rehearsal Operation). Create SD Card: In addition, Nexus C can create SD memory cards to be used with the I-Caption® PDA’s. This tool converts a standard PowerPoint presentation into a jpg pictures formatted for use with the I-Caption PDA software.

Note: You must be using PDA’s with Windows Pocket PC version 5.0 or greater. Note: CS-2 must be equipped with a SC Card reader.

Create SD Card Procedure:

1. Load the PowerPoint presentation out the CS-2 via the USB upload feature. 2. Insert formatted SD Card, unlocked.



3. Select Nexus C / Tools / Create SD Card. 4. Select presentation to convert. 5. Select the start slide number (if different than 1). 6. Select “Create SD Card” 7. The program will delete all files on the SD Card, output all the slides in the presentation to jpg

format, resize all slides to fit PDA screen, and write all slides to the SD Card.

Note: You must be using PDA’s with Windows Pocket PC version 5.0 or greater to read these jpg files.

Note: It is faster if SD card is formatted prior to this step. Deleting each file individually takes longer to perform.

Note: This task may take several minutes to complete depending on the size of the PowerPoint presentation.

CS-2 PDA Operation

Note: Never perform a hard reset on the PDA. The PDA is loaded with the CS-2 PDA software on the EPROM of the PDA at the factory. Therefore, the program is only erased if hard reset is preformed. All other function including a soft reset and fully discharging the battery will not erase or affect the program.

PDA Getting Started: The device ships with a high capacity 2200 mAH battery installed. The PDA must be charged fully before use. The battery charges fully in approximately 4 hours. To charge unit simply remove the PDA from the case and place in the charging cradle. The power button located at the top of the unit will light orange when charging and green when fully charged.

PDA Basic Operation: To operate unit remove it from the charger. Turn on the device by pressing the power button located at the top of the unit. The PDA should automatically connect to the CS-2 it has been assigned or the strongest signal (see setup instructions). When the unit is first turned “on” an icon labeled “Go to setup” will appear in the top left hand corner for 5 seconds. This allows the user to enter the setup options. Status indicators appear at the bottom of the main screen. They indicate connections status, battery power, and signal strength.

If for any reason the unit does not connect after 1 minute a soft reset should be performed. To reset the PDA turn the unit over and depress the small reset button on the back of unit (marked with the stylist). The unit will take approximately 5 seconds to reboot.

PDA setup: To access the PDA Setup tap the “Go to setup” button in the top left hand corner of the screen when the unit is first turned “on” when removed from the charger or after a soft reset is preformed.



Unit Tab: Cue Type: Each PDA can be set up to either be an “A” PDA or “B” PDA. The “A” PDA’s are cued by the PDA A cue file. The “B” PDA’s are cued by the PDA B cue file. This allows you to set up two different timings for the PDA’s. No Cue is for future use, if selected the PDA will respond to cues for PDA “A”. Output Type: The PDA can be set to show slides only, audio only, slides and audio, or live text.

Slides only – will only display jpeg or bmp slides stored in the flash card of the PDA. Audio only - will only play the audio files stored on the flash card of the PDA (Note: The audio will play through the internal speakers in the PDA if a headphone is not connected). Slides and audio - will play the slides and the audio for the specific cue fired from the CS-2. Live text - will display only the text sent from Nexus C on the CS-2.

Display Status: When checked the unit will display the signal strength meter and / or the battery power meter on the main screen. The graphics filtering adds graphics enhancement to slides not converted by the CS-2. Volume: Sets audio level of the unit from 0 – 15. This is only used when the audio type is set to “Audio” or “Slides and Audio”. Backlight Time: Is the amount of time the backlight stays on when a cue is received or when the user presses any of the buttons on the bottom of the unit. This can be set from 0 to 120 seconds. Adim: Is the password used to run remote rehearsals from the PDA. Set Bright 2,8: Allows you to set the brightness of the PDA’s backlight. 2 and 8 represents the factory preset of 2 while on battery and 8 (full) when on power. Connections Tab: The PDA’s will ship preprogrammed to work with your CS-2. The connection method for an X50 or X51 will be set to automatic connection method. The PDA’s can connect to the CS-2 in 3 ways. Automatic is the easiest type for the end user but you should choose the type that best fits your facilities needs.



Automatic: Automatic setup may be used with Axim X50 or X51 only. No settings are necessary. The PDA just needs to be turned “on” and placed on a charger. It will then automatically connect to the strongest CS-2 WiFi signal. Once it connects it will not find another CS-2 unless the unit is reset. You may not want to use this feature if you have multiple CS-2’s in your facility and the distribution point is not near the WiFi router you would like to connect to. Semi-Automatic: The only user input that is needed is the numeric portion of the access point SSID. Connection is then automatic. You simply need to change the last 4 digits of the IP address to the CS-2 in use. This can be used with X50, X51 and X30 models.

Manual: This allows the installer or technician to enter any IP address that may fit the facilities current wireless network. It also would be used if one access point is being used by one or more CS-2 control stations.

Host IP: This is the IP address of the CS-2.

In automatic mode this field will populate with the strongest wireless CS-2 signal when the unit is powered on (notice that you can not enter a number in this field in Automatic and Semi-Automatic mode).

In the Semi-Automatic mode the technician must enter the last 4 digits of the IP address of the CS-2 that is to be used with the PDA. This is entered under connection after WizComputing_-___. Press the save button to save any settings. In the Manual mode the IP address can be entered to match the IP address of the wireless network attached to the CS-2.

Local IP Address: This address is assigned by the DCHP server located in the wireless router. Local Subnet Mask: Assigned by the wireless router.



WiFi Tab: The WiFi tab shows wireless networks in your area and the authorized networks that the unit is authorized to connect to. This screen also show the networks signal strength in dB.

Note: the signal strength is recorded in negative values therefore, -32 dB > -51 dB > -63 dB.

Menu Tab: From this screen the user can run a remote rehearsal, run a demonstration, or do system administration duties.



PDA Run Rehearsal: A rehearsal is used to time the slide or audio files to the shows midi cues. To access the Rehearsal screen you need to start the PDA and let the unit connect to the CS-2 control station. Once connected you can exit the program or run a remote rehearsal by pressing the following buttons on the PDA. 1 – Up Navigation button – press 5 times 2 – Down Navigation button – press 2 times It will take approximately 3 seconds for the setup screen to appear. Once on the menu tab you can run a rehearsal, run a silent rehearsal, perform a demo, exit the program, or return back to the program.

Note: You must receive at least one midi (electrics) cue before a rehearsal can start. It needs to reference a beginning cue. This can be any test cues from the board.

Note: You must start rehearsal prior to first lights cue (curtain lights, usually at half hour)

Note: You must run the whole show. Sections of show can not be added together. Note: The PDA must be connected to the CS-2 for the rehearsal to be performed.

1. On this screen select “Run Rehearsal”. 2. On the next screen select the rehearsal type. Would you like to time a slide presentation for

PDA “A”, PDA “B”, Audio 1, Audio 2, Audio 3, or Power Point presentation. You can setup rehearsals for up to 3 separate audio files, 2 PDA files, 1 Power Point file or 1 WTS file.

3. Enter password in box labeled password. The password is selected on the unit tab and is labeled “Admin.” The default password from the factory is “WIZ”.

4. Once a show (electrics) cue is received, touch the GO button on the screen or press either button left (telephone symbol) or right (letter symbol) of the center toggle button at the bottom. (Remember that the first slide appears on the screen automatically but must be fired again during rehearsal.)

5. Depress either the buttons to continue advancing slides. 6. The next slide number to send appears at the top. 7. A running list of the incoming midi cues appear in the box labeled incoming midi cues. 8. The slide at the bottom will change with slide advances. 9. The operator can choose to orient the screen with the buttons on the left hand or right hand

with the selector buttons. 10. To exit without saving the rehearsal press the “Oops” button at top left of screen. 11. When show is over select “Show Over” button on the screen. 12. Select “Yes” to except the new rehearsal. 13. The program will automatically save the rehearsal with the time and date in the title.

(Example: Cue power point 5-19-2004_1-19-16PM.cu1) (Cue File Name _ Date _ Time.cu1) 14. The program will automatically update the cue file for the next performance with this newly

created cue file (unless the manual check box is marked in the “Set-up options”. See the section on manually choosing files for more details.) You should see the latest cue file updated on the “main” screen of the CS-2 program.

Silent Rehearsal: A silent rehearsal is the same as a regular rehearsal except the cue fires have no effect on any of the devices being used for that performance. For example if you are re-timing a PDA “A” presentation you can perform a silent rehearsal and not affect that night’s performance. However, when the operator selects “Show Over” the rehearsal and cue file will automatically load in as in the normal rehearsal. Demo: Demo mode allows the user to advance through slides and audio segments by pressing the navigate buttons. This is way to test what is loaded on the SD card. System Administrator: Test Mode: Allow the operator to exit the CS-2 PDA software. This allows you to get to the Pocket PC programs. Reset unit: Forces the unit to perform a soft reset. This performs the same function as pressing the recessed button the back of the unit. Force update: Is for future use.



Info: Gives you basic information about the software. Distribution of units: It is best to take a photo ID like Passport or drivers license as a deposit for the unit The unit should be placed in the case and handed to the patron with a mount if available. The patron should be informed that the captions for the show will automatically appear on the screen throughout the performance. If the signal is interrupted or cues are misfired the slides may go out of synchronization for a period of time. However, the system will re-synchronize automatically. The patron can refresh the back light by depressing any of the bottom buttons. The patron should be informed not to cover the end of the unit with blinking green antenna since it hinders reception. When the show is completed the units should be taken out of the case, turned “off,” and returned to the charger. The units will recharge in 4 hours and the “On” button will change from orange to green when charging is complete. Units can last through a performance on a 50% charge so full charges are not always necessary.

NOTE: Make sure unit is turned “off” when in the charger. The screen will go to black 60 seconds after the last slide is received. If the unit is still on the green light will blink. When “off” the flashing green light will turn off.

Note: If the X51 or X51v PDA is left “on” when placed in the charger the unit will reset automatically with in 60 seconds of being placed in the charger.
