Version Originale... Version Originale is a course for English-speaking adults and teens with no prior knowledge of French. Level 1 covers level A1 of the Common European Reference Framework for Languages (CEFRL). What is the Common European Reference Framework for Languages (CEFRL) or the Cadre européen commun de référence pour les langues (CECR) Version Originale is based on ideas about language learning that have been studied and re- searched in the Council of Europe (CoE) for more than fifteen years and are embodied in the CEFRL, which sets out the objectives to be achieved at each of six levels, from A1 (beginners) to C2. The importance of the CEFRL can hardly be exaggerated. Employers throughout the EU countries of the CoE depend on clear and widely recognised qualifications when choosing staff; so do educational establishments, from language schools to universities, when assessing foreign students. A CEFRL-based qualification may not be enough to get a job or a study place in Eu- rope, but it is an almost essential prerequisite. What is the task-based approach - L’approche actionnelle? The CEFRL defines a new task-based approach to language learning in which “ ... users and learners of a language are considered as actors in a social context, performing tasks - not al- ways language-based - within a specific cultural and social environment”. The communicative approach has been at the core of the CEFRL since the beginning. What is new, and is central to Version Originale, is the recommendation that learners become partners in an active “social contract” which moves the focus of learning from the individual student to the group and the class, requiring cooperation by all its members, and taking advantage of whatever each member can contribute. What is Version Originale ? Version Originale A1 for English speakers consists of an adapted English Textbook and English Workbook. Other resources (Teacher’s Guide CDROM, online activities Web 2.0, resources for interactive whiteboard and Evaluations) are the same for both the French and English editions. The English adaptation of the Textbook A1 follows the same structure as the French edition but includes : The introduction and description of the method translated into English The instructions for all activities in English to facilitate written comprehension English explanations of grammar points A double page of activities in context in English to assist students in finalizing the tasks A bilingual glossary at the back of the book to assist in vocabulary learning and access The Textbook includes an audio CD, DVD and online activities Web 2.0. The English Workbook A1 aims to : • consolidate the student’s learning • encourage autonomous learning, with focus on oral competence using the audio CD • develop an awareness of francophone cultures • interact online through the supplementary web activites Levels A1-B1 are now available as are the full digital versions on USB for levels A1 and A2. Version Originale...Version Originale is a course for English-speaking adults and teens with no prior knowledge of French. Level 1 covers level A1 of the Common European Reference Framework for Languages (CEFRL).

What is the Common European Reference Framework for Languages (CEFRL) or the Cadre européen commun de référence pour les langues (CECR)

Version Originale is based on ideas about language learning that have been studied and re-searched in the Council of Europe (CoE) for more than fi fteen years and are embodied in the CEFRL, which sets out the objectives to be achieved at each of six levels, from A1 (beginners) to C2. The importance of the CEFRL can hardly be exaggerated. Employers throughout the EU countries of the CoE depend on clear and widely recognised qualifi cations when choosing staff; so do educational establishments, from language schools to universities, when assessing foreign students. A CEFRL-based qualifi cation may not be enough to get a job or a study place in Eu-rope, but it is an almost essential prerequisite.

What is the task-based approach - “L’approche actionnelle” ?

The CEFRL defi nes a new task-based approach to language learning in which “ ... users and learners of a language are considered as actors in a social context, performing tasks - not al-ways language-based - within a specifi c cultural and social environment”.
