About VertebratesVertebrates are animals that have back bones.

Vertebrates include reptiles, mammals, fish, birds and amphibians.

Page 4: Vertebrates

Amphibians Amphibians belongs to the kingdom of Amalia. Amphibians are cold-blooded such as frogs, toads and

salamanders But the body of amphibians changes with the environment

in cold weathers amphibians hibernate during the winter. There are over 64300 thousand species of amphibians. Frogs belong to the group of amphibian in the order of

Anura. . Frogs are cold blooded but when they get to warm they

lay in the sun to warm up. Some frog fossils were found by scientist almost over 140

million years ago. . Frogs can be found near water but they mostly prefer

ponds lakes and also marshes.

Page 5: Vertebrates

(continue) AmphibiansSome adaptations They have a small waist but no neck, flat skull

because it’s easy for them to swim and hold its prey. They have front legs and feet to use to keep the front

body off the body or ground. Characteristics They have moist, scale less skin that absorbs water

and oxygen. Without the moist condition skin they will die, that’s why you’ll see lots of amphibians are near water.

Many Amphibians eat meat and are carnivorous. But for most of them they eat insects and other invertebrates.

Page 6: Vertebrates

Birds There are 8,600 different species of

birds. Birds have scaley legs and they have

no teeth

Page 7: Vertebrates

What they eat Some eat seeds, berries, fruit and

insects. Others eat small mammals, fish,

larvae, aquatic vertebrates, and acorns

Page 8: Vertebrates

Habitats Birds can live in jungles, parks

anywhere where there are trees.

Page 9: Vertebrates

More information They migrate during fall and winter. There is a bird that can drunk, if it

inhales alcohol. Females don’t need to mate to lay

eggs.

Page 10: Vertebrates

Fish Fish are aquatic vertebrates. At 31,000 different species, fish exhibit

greater species diversity than any other vertebrates.

Page 11: Vertebrates

Adaptations Fish are cold-blooded, allowing the body

temperature to vary as the ambient temperatures change.

Not all fish have scales; the fish that don’t have scales have a thick layer of mucous.

The purposes for their scales are to give the protection.

. Their gills are used for breathing underwater.

Page 12: Vertebrates

How they move and their habitat

Their fins and tail help them swim.

Obviously, fish live in water. Fish can be found in most aquatic environments

Page 13: Vertebrates

What they eat It actually depends what fish your

dealing with. For fish in aquariums, they eat things like flakes, tablets and other fish food you buy at the stores. But for fish in the oceans, lakes etc, they eat plankton, dirt, algae, seaweed, fish that are smaller than them and mostly anything they can find to eat.

Mammals Mammals are any animals that produces,

feeds it young with milk, and is warm-blooded.

There are about 5400 species. Some adaptations are for animals that live

in cold climates have coats of fur or blubber to protect them from the cold.

Mammals have developed different adaptations for the different environment that they live in .

Page 15: Vertebrates

What Mammals eat Mammal eat plants, meat, fish, and

insects. They can be carnivores, herbivores,

and omnivores.

Page 16: Vertebrates

Habitats Mammals can be found on land, in

water and in the air. They can be found all around the

world.

Page 17: Vertebrates

Reptiles All reptiles are cold blooded that’s why they

warm themselves in the sun There are 6,800 species of reptiles on earth Most reptiles have dry, scales and, scutes Scutes are bony external plates or scales Turtles have scutes on their shells And crocodiles have them on their skin The kingdom Reptilia is the kingdom the

reptiles belong to

Page 18: Vertebrates

Adaptation Reptiles have thick skin that minimizes

water loose to cool them selves (it especially works for reptiles if they are in the dessert)

In autumn reptiles lose their body heat because, the weather is cold, this helps them survive extreme weather

Page 19: Vertebrates

Reproduction and Information

Like most living things, reptiles have to find a mate in order to reproduce

Some reptiles lay eggs some give birth to live young

Many reptiles that live in hot climates are mostly active at night

A few lizards have long legs, so they can absorb less surface heat while running and just moving

Page 20: Vertebrates

Where they live and what the eat

Some live in the dessert Some live in creeks Some live throughout the warm and

temperate regions

Most reptiles are carnivores which mean they eat other animals and insects

Only a very few reptiles are herbivores which mean the eat plants or berries
