Career- Work Environment

According to www.bls.gov:

Many vets daily work is completed in animal hospitals or clinics, however some receive the opportunity to travel and respond to house calls, conduct their work in laboratories and even work for the government.

The responsibilities necessary to complete the job description can be stressful and even take an emotional toll especially due to the fact that vets have to handle unwell animals and the animal’s worried owners.

The work environment can become very boisterous depending on how many animals are in the environment at the time.

Veterinarians are frequently at risk of the animals’ disease infecting them and of being injured by the animal when the animal is in panic. For example, the animal may bite or scratch the vet when hurting or fearful.

On a regular basis, a veterinarian will work long hours. Occasionally, there will be an emergency call and the vet will have to respond to those calls on unexpected hours not scheduled.

Why?

I would like to have the job as a veterinarian for many reasons. One reason being that I love animals and would do anything to aid an animal in need. I also want to choose a job in which I have the opportunity to make a difference in the world. While being a vet may not help terminate the crime and illegal actions occurring in the world, it can help make a difference in the lives of animals and their owners. It can also help me spread the word of animal cruelty and help teach people the proper way to treat and train their pet.
