1. INTRODUCTION

Thank you for using ETD750 series AC drives. ETD750 series AC drives use the unique current vector control; realize

high precision, high torque and flexible curve motor control. This manual introduces how to use ETD 750 AC drives. Before you using

(install, connections, running, maintenance, check etc.), please be sure to read the manual seriously. Besides, please understand the product's safety precautions before using the product.

General Notes

The illustrations in this manual, in order to explain the details section, there will remove the shell or safety shelter for description. When running the drives, be sure to install the shell to the original place according to the provision and operate the drives according to the manual.

In the manual due to product improvements, specifications change, as well as to their own user-friendly manual will be appropriate changes. At this point we will update the manual number and distribute revisions.

Damage or loss need to order manual, please note the drive type and serial number and contact with the company’s agent or HQ.

1.1 Unpacking Inspection: Upon unpacking, please check for: Any damage occurred during transportation; Check whether the rated values on the nameplate of the drives are in

accordance with your order. If there is any error, please contact us or distributors.

2. SAFETY NOTE

2.1 Installation

1 Please install the drive on fire-retardant material. 2 Keep the drive away from combustible materials 3 Keep the drive away from explosive gas

4 Don’t carry the drive by its cover. The cover cannot support the weight of the drive and may drop.

5 Please install the drive on a strong support, failing which the drive may fall off.

6 Don't operate the drive if parts are not complete, otherwise there is a danger of a fire or human injury

7 Don't allow screws, washers and other metal foreign matters to fall inside the drive, otherwise there is a danger of fire or damage;

8 Don’t install the drive in places where water pipes may leak onto it.

2.2 Wiring 1 Only qualified personnel shall wire the drive.

2 Never wire the drive unless the input AC supply is totally disconnected.

3 The drive must be properly earthed to reduce electrical accident.

1 Don’t confuse the input and output terminals, otherwise there is an explosion or property may be damaged.

2 Don’t short circuit P and N, otherwise there is a danger of fire or property may be damaged.

3 Cable lugs must be connected to main terminals firmly, otherwise property may be damaged.

4 The bare portions of the power cables must be bound with insulation tapes.

For your safety, please pay particular attention to marks used in the manual.

2.3 Power On 1 Install the cover before switching on the drive, to

reduce the danger of electric shock and explosion.

For drives that have been stored for longer than 2 years, increase its input voltage gradually before supplying full rated input voltage to it, in order to avoid electric shock and explosion.

3 Don't touch the live control terminals with bare hands.

4 Don’t operate the drive with wet hands.

2.4 Maintenance 1 Perform the maintenance job after confirming that

the DC Bus voltage is below 36V.

2 Only trained professionals can change the components, it is prohibited to leave wires or metal parts inside the drive so as to avoid the risk of fire.

3 Parameter settings of the control board that has been changed must be revised, otherwise accidents may occur.

2.5 Others 1 Modification is strictly prohibited without permission.

2 Disposing unwanted drives must as industrial waste, strictly prohibit set on fire.

2.6 About Mechanism Load

Driving a common motor at low speed for a long time, the drive’s life will be reduced due to the deteriorating heat dissipation effect, so a special variable frequency motor is needed if long time operation with constant torque is required.

The drive can protect the motor from over-temperature. If the ratings of the driven motor are not in compliance with the drive, be sure to adjust the protective threshold to ensure the motor is properly protected.

When running the motor above 50Hz, there will be increase in vibration and noise. The rate at which the torque is available from the motor is inversely proportional to its increase in running speed. Ensure that the motor can still provide sufficient torque to the load.

Braking torque is developed in the machine when the drive is hoisting a load down. The drive will trip when it cannot cope with dissipating the regenerative energy of the load. Therefore, a braking unit with proper parameters setting in the drive is required.

5 The output current may fluctuant when drive reciprocating load, especially running in low frequency, recommend running at more than 20Hz.

The drive system may encounter mechanical resonance with the load when operating within certain band of output frequency. Skip frequencies have been set to avoid it.

7 Don’t connect or disconnect the motor when the drive running, otherwise will lead to over current or the main circuit may be damaged.

8 Please don’t close to the motor when you use the failure re-start function.

9 Please check the speed allowance range between the motor and mechanism because AC drives can run to high speed easily.

10 Disconnect the motor cable from AC drive before any test to cables.

11 Confirm safety before changing the motor direction.

12 Insure motor terminals not be connected to main power supply.

13 The motor max speed (frequency) must be set according to the motor and devices which connected to the motor.

14Install the motor correctly and ensure the mechanism load can allow the motor start before the motor running.

15 ETD 750 AC drives must be properly earthed from ground terminal.

2.7 About AC Drives

Don’t connect any varistor or capacitor to the output terminals of the drive, because the drives’ output voltage waveform is pulse wave, otherwise tripping or damaging of components may occur. As following figure:

2 The drive is not suitable to be used out of the specified range of operation voltage. If needed, please use suitable voltage regulation device.

3 There are transient surge suppressors inside the drive which protects it against lighting strike.

When using one drive with more motors, we should pay attention to motor load can’t be a reciprocating load, otherwise it will bring instability, and for each motor must have a separate over-current protection device.

KM1~KMn must be matching with motor M1~Mn rated value, in this case, Ac drives can’t protect a single motor.

5 When the Ac drive connected to the power supply, don’t do any measurement to the internal circuit.

6 Ac drives have large capacitive leakage current.

When the ac drive connected to the power supply, even if the motor is not running, motor U, V, W terminals and DC Bridges / braking resistor terminals P + / PR is still charged.

Although the control I / O terminals and power supply isolation, even if the inverter does not power on, but the relay outputs and other I / O terminals is still possible with a dangerous voltage.

9 If the inverter is used as a part of the machine, the machine manufacturer must provide the machine's main power switch.

When the altitude more than 1000 meters, the inverter need for derating due to the thin air cause the inverter cooling effect deterioration. Following is the inverter rated current and altitude curves.

When the ac drive connected to the power supply, the inverter power unit is charged. It will be extremely dangerous and even death if touch this voltage. Control unit and the main voltage isolation.

12 Can only use spare parts supplied or recommended by ETD company.

13 ETD750 inverter can only used in a fixed installation.

14Don’t do any voltage test for any part of ETD 750.This test requires a special test procedure. Neglect of the steps will lead to devastating results.

5. WIRING 5.1 Wire Connections of Main Loop:

Power Supply: Pay attention to the voltage grade.

No Fuse Switch: Refer to the corresponding table.Creepage Switch: Please use the creepage switch which can avoid higher harmonic.

Electromagnetic Contactor:Note: Don’t use electromagnetic contactor as the power switch of AC drive.

AC Reactor: Proposed to add input AC reactor to improve power factor when the output capacity more than 1000KVA.

AC drives:1、Be sure to right connect wires of main circuit and control signal. 2、Be sure to set the parameters well.

Motor:1、Ensure motor parameters are in compliance with connected mechanism load. 2、A special variable frequency motor is needed if the motor at low speed for a long time.

(3) Function Description of Main circuit Terminals: Terminal Symbol Description

R/L1 S/L2 T/L3

Connect to single/three phase AC power supply.

Main circuit power supply terminals R/L1、S/L2、T/L3 are

connected to single/three phase AC power supply from circuit

protection breaker or creepage protection breaker. Needn’t to

consider the phase sequence of three phase power supply.

Proposed to connect an electromagnetic contactor in order to

remove power supply and prevent failure expansion when the

drives protect function working.

Don‘t use the main power supply “ON/OFF” to control the

operation of drive’s. Should be using S1 and S2 of control circuit

or “START” and “STOP” on operator panel to control the operation

of drives. If must use the main power supply “ON/OFF” to control

the operation of drive, then only once per hour.

200v grad input power supply: Single/three phase input sharing,

select any two of three terminals for single phase.

400v grad input power supply: No need single phase power

supply.

Connect to three phase motor.

Connected AC drive’s output terminals to three phases motor

according to the right phase sequence. Change any two of U, V,

W wires if the motor rotation direction is not right.

If wires between drive and motor is very long, due to

distributed capacitance between lines have a greater

high-frequency current may result in over-current trip.

Otherwise, as the creepage current increasing the current

precision become bad. So the wire length between drive and

motor should less than 50 meters for drives below 3.7kW and

for the bigger drives should less than 100 meters. If the wire is

very long, you should connect filter options (OFL filter) on the

output side.

Drive’s device at the switch process will produce a surge

voltage when the drive driven motor, this surge voltage is

superimposed on the motor terminals. For 400v series, the

surge voltage may make the motor insulation deterioration if the

wire is very long. For 400v grade please consider the following

countermeasure:

Use enhanced insulation motor;

Connect filter options (OFL filter) on the output side;

To minimize length of connection wire between the drive and

the motor, such as 10~20 meters.

Connected to external brake resistance(≤15KW) (Options)

Drives less than 15KW have inside brake unit which connected

to P+、PR terminals. In order to increase brake ability, must

connect external brake resistance. External brake resistance

terminals P+、PR connected to P+、PR of drive. The wire should

less than 5 meters and double-twisted or two-adhesion.

P+

N-

Dc voltage output, can connect external brake unit(≥18.5KW,

Options)

Drives more than 18.5KW have no inside brake unit. In order to

increase brake ability, must connect external brake unit or brake

resistance (Options)

Brake unit terminals P+、N-connected to P+、N- of drive. The

wire should less than 5 meters and double-twisted or

two-adhesion.

Drive terminals P+, N- when noted used, should maintain its

original open state.

Note: If shorted P+, N- or connected brake resistance to P+, N- ,

this will damage the drives and cause accidents. Absolutely

can’t do so.

The auxiliary contacts 1 and 2 have polarity difference.

About the connection of power regeneration unit please refer

the product manual of power regeneration unit.

Terminal Symbol

Grounding terminal of drive should be connected to ground.

Grounding terminal EG of drive must connected to ground for

safety and reduce noise.

In order to avoid electric shock and fire accident, the metal shell

and frame of electric device should be connected to ground

according to the national electric rule. The grounding wire

should be thick and short and drive system need to be

connected to special grounding.

(4) Control circuit terminal function description:

Note: A、The main circuit wires is 600V IV plastic isolation.

B、Ambience temperature is 20 for recommended wire area.

C、Wire maximum section area is maximum section area of connection

terminal plate.

Be sure to connect MCCB circuit breaker between power supply and

input terminals (R/L1, S/L2, T/L3).(Please use the creepage breaker which

have high frequency countermeasure)

Needn’t consider the phase sequence of wires connected to input

terminals (R/L1, S/L2,T/L3).

Right connect wires between motor and output terminals of drive (U/T1,

V/T2, W/T3).

Terminals of power lines, motor lines and control lines, please use the

pressure with a casing joint.

Input and output line length to 10 meters as the base, if more than 10

meters, use the recommended wire cross-sectional area than the thicker

wires.

Wires connected to control circuit terminals should use shield wire or

intertwist wire, in addition, the wiring should be fully away from the main

circuit, high power circuits (including the 200V relay sequence circuit).

Please use relay of small-signal or double contacts to prevent poor

contact relay which connected to the control circuit terminals.

Grounding terminals should be effectively grounded.

6. USAGE OF OPERATION PANEL ETD750 series inverter has LCD and LED two kinds of operator panel.

The standard LCD operator panel has a 128 * 64 array LCD display which can

be used to indicate the inverter operation status, operation direction(except for

drives below 3.7kw), alarms, pre-alarm information, Loc/Rem control, I/O

status and parameters setting. Also can choose LED operator panel, for the

detail please refer to introduction of LED operator panel on Chapter 6.4.

The operator panel is removable, and isolated from the power line. The

operator panel support plug-and-play, and can be removed during operation,

but it is suggested not to remove the keypad if the inverter is controlled by the

panel.

6.1 Using operator panel Inverters below 3.7KW (3.7KW included) use the following panel:

7. SIMPLE OPERATION 7.1 Inspection and preparation before running

Be sure to check the following items before start: Check the wiring is right or not. Especially check the output terminals U/T1、V/T2、W/T3 can’t connect to power supply, and ensure the grounding terminal is properly earthed. Confirm terminals or the exposure electrification parts are not short-circuited or short to the ground. Confirm terminals connections, pluggable connectors and bolts not loose. When connect to the power supply, make all the switches in open state and ensure the inverter can’t start and there are no unexpected actions. Check the following items after connect to the power supply:

No failure showed on the operator panel. No foreign body in cooling fan of inverter and wind channel

unobstructed.

Switch on the power supply after the cover board be installed. Can’t remove cover board when the power supply on. Can’t operate switches with wet hands to prevent electric shock accidents.

7.2 Operation Methods There are various operation methods, please refer to description of

“Chapter 6 Usage of operation panel” and “Chapter 8 Function parameters list”. Choose the most appropriate operation method according to application requirements and operation requirements. Operation of commonly used methods such as Table 7-1

7.3 Commissioning Verify that no abnormal situation, the right set up all the function

parameters for the inverter running. Do commissioning after set all the parameters done.

It is recommended running at lower frequency, no abnormal situation then gradually increase running frequency. Default setting to REM3 (remove control), can set by parameter “003” or switch by STOP key.

Table 7-1,Normally used operation methods:

For start press START key, for stop press STOP key. Check following items when running:

Motor rotation direction is right. Motor rotation is smooth (no howling or vibration)。 Acceleration/deceleration is smooth.

If no abnormalities then you can increase frequency from pulse knob .After the commissioning that can be put into operation.

If the inverter or motor operation exception occurs, should immediately stop running and refer to “Chapter 10 Failure Countermeasure” to verify the reasons for abnormal conditions. After the inverter stop output, terminals R/L1,S/L2,T/L3 still live if not disconnected the main contactor. At this time touch terminals U/T1、V/T2、W/T3 will be shocked. In addition, even if remove the main power supply, because of there is charging voltage on filter capacitor, it will take some time to discharge voltage. After remove main power supply 10 minutes and measure the middle dc circuit voltage by multi-meter, confirm the voltage is lower the safety voltage then can touch the internal circuit of inverter.

9. DETAILED EXPLAINATIONS 000 parameters setting range: 0 ~ 7 default: 0

0: Parameters are allowed to be changed. 1: Parameters can not be changed. (Protect user’s parameters.) 2 ~ 6: reserved 7: change all parameters to default values. If the user changed the parameters by mistake and can not restore them properly, this function should be implemented. Set this parameter to 7, and then press "ENTER" button, you can make all the function code data values back to the initial value, and then re-set the required parameters.

001 Control mode Range: 0 ~ 1 Default: 1 0: V / F control. 1: Sensor less current vector control. In this move, the torque response can be improved and provide a high performance.

002 G / P options Range: 0 ~ 1 Default: * 0: G-type constant torque, overload 150% for 1min 1: P fan pump-type, overload 120% for 1min Note: Changing this parameter, No 099 parameters will subsequently change. The inverter rated power will shift to an upper grade if you change this parameter from 0 to 1.

003 Mode of operation Range: 0 ~ 8 Default: 3 ETD750 has 2 operate modes, LOCAL and REMOTE. Only when the inverter is stopped, these two control modes can be switched by pressing the "STOP" key. The selected mode can be confirmed by the control mode status indication shown on the keypad panel. MODBUS Communication protocol

Modbus communication protocol is applied to electronic controller on the lingua franca. With this agreement, the controller between the controller via the network (such as Ethernet) and other devices can communicate. It has become a common industry standard. With it, different manufacturers of industrial control equipment can be connected into a network for centralized monitoring. This agreement defines the use of a controller can recognize the message structure, regardless of what network they are communicating through. It describes a controller requesting access to other equipment, if the response to requests from other devices, as well as how to detect the error and recorded. Surveillance error value:

ASCII mode checksum (LRC ChETDk)

Checksum (LRC ChETDk) from the Address to the Data Content end of the

combined value. For example, question 3.3.1 above, the message check

code:

01H + 03H + 21H + 02H + 00H + 02H = 29H, and then take two's complement

= D7H.

RTU mode checksum (CRC ChETDk)

Checksum Data content from the Address to the end. The rules of its

operation are as follows:

Step 1: To enable 16-bit registers (CRC register) = FFFFH.

Step 2: Exclusive OR the first 8-bit byte message command and low 16-bit

CRC register, do Exclusive OR, the results stored within the CRC register.

Step 3: Also a CRC shift register will be 0 filled a high office.

Step 4: Check the value of the shift to the right, if it is 0, the new value in step

3 into CRC register, otherwise Exclusive OR A001H with the CRC register,

the results stored within the CRC register.

10. FAILURE COUNTERMEASURE 10.1 Fault diagnosis and corrective measures When ETD 750 detects a failure, the number operator displays the failure, and to let the fault contact output and the motor coast to stop. Check the following table to find the reason and take corrective measures. If the following measures can’t solve the failures, please contact with ETD company. In order to reset the drive, switch on the reset input signal or press STOP key, or you can disconnect the main circuit power supply to reset the fault. Note:The drive can’t reset the fault when there is run dictate input.

11. MAINTENANCE 11.1 Basic maintenance methods

Basic maintenance methods

1 Do not touch the high-voltage terminals in inverter,

otherwise, electrical shock shall occur

Re-install all the covers before re-electrify inverter,

check if the breaker in plastic box is broken while

uncover the outer cover, otherwise electrical shock

shall occur

10 minutes after breaking the main circuit power,

conduct the maintenance work upon the confirmation

of the AC voltage is below 36V. It shall be dangerous if

there is any electric charge on the capacitor

Only qualified maintenance personnels can do the

maintenance, examination and part changing work

11.2 Regular Examination Items In order to avoid any failure happened to ETD750 and ensure smooth

operating with long term and high reliability, please do regular examination

according to instruction given in the following tables. In order to avoid

electrical shock, please break the main circuit power, 10 minutes after that,

confirm the AC voltage of the main circuit is blow 36 V, then do the regular

examination.

Check the voltage is in accordance to voltage needed for inverter (pay

attention to check if there is any damage for the power wire and motor)

If there is any loose between the wire terminal and connector (if any

broken strand for the power wires and terminals connection wires)

Check if there any dust, iron chipping and corrosive liquid and greasy dirt

NO measurement on inverter insulation impedance

Check the output voltage, current and frequency for inverter ( the

13.4 External potentiometer explanation and example 13.4.1 External Potentiometer

External potentiometer for the main frequency of external control,

generally use 5-10K potentiometer.

13.4.2 Usage explanation

External adjustable potentiometer generally has three contacts, namely

potentiometer

fixed resistance

side A, B, and

adjustable side

C (as shown): A and B is

maximum resistance sides of adjustable potentiometer, the resistance value

is the same as marked resistance. Judgment method: Sum of resistance A C

and BC equal to resistance AB, that is to say: AB=AC+BC. For this method

can judge adjustable side C, and then connected C to FV (analog input), A

and B separately to FC and FS.

Examples: Example 1:Internal control of multi-speed:

Mode 2: the operating modes for the main and subsidiary inverters can be chosen causally, the main frequency operating mode for the subsidiary inverter are controlled externally.

Mode 1: the frequency can be set by the potentiometer, as shown in

graph 1, achieve the coupling functions for multi-inverters by setting the

frequency of potentiometer, when the 1st inverter can not function

normally, adjust the potentiometer to make the following inverters to go on

working. Set the scale parameters of 045upper frequency to achieve the

output of the rotation rounds for two inverters can be output as certain

proportion

Mode 2: as shown in graph 2, the coupling of multi-inverters can be

achieved, if the first one can not work, other inverters shall stop working.

Use the main inverter to control subsidiary ones, connect the FC on main

inverter with the FC on the subsidiary inverter, and connect FMAs on the

main with the FV on the subsidiary. Refer to the functions and increment

of the 079 FMA and 080FMA, adjust the operating mode and control

proportion of subsidiary inverter. E.g, set the 079 as 0, 080 as 0.80, which

means to use the frequency of the main inverter to control the subsidiary

inverter. The proportion is 80%, the main inverter is 50HZ, subsidiary is

40HZ, it can be effective under the operating of the main inverter, there

are some losing for the output of the FMA, which can be solved by add

the increment of the FMA.

Example 3: Frequency/frequency conversion switching

Remarks:

K is the switch for the frequency and frequency conversion, FR is a

thermal relay.

K1 is the frequency start button; K2 is the frequency stop button.

Setting for “Stop operation” can be set as the freely running to stop

operation 007.

K3 is the start and stop switch under the frequency conversion status

The interlock shall be imposed between KM2 and KM3.

1) 220V power supply, for L1 and L2, only terminate two of the following terminals(R,S and T), three-phase 380V power supply, terminate R,S and T terminals, please pay attention to the machine types.
