Commander’s Message
Comrades I hope all is well with everyone. We lost one of our beloved Auxil-
iary members Elvira Storms on the 24th of July, she will be missed by all. We
met with Rick, Brandon, and Dana this week and are working on the details
for Elvira’s Celebraon of Life on the 20th of August from 4 to 8 PM, more to
follow on how you all can help with this. We had a really great month in Ju-
ly, and everyone did an excellent job. The Slow Smoked BBQ was a big suc-
cess, everyone loved the food and all had a great me. I talked to Eddie and
he is willing to do another Slow Smoke on the 6th of August so look for the
flier at the canteen, it will be great. We should be hearing soon from Na-
onal about the merging of the Ladies and Men’s Auxiliaries. If you haven’t
goen your life membership in the Auxiliary I recommend that you do so be-
fore the rates go up. I would like to thank all of the volunteers that helped
this past month. Our bartenders, Steve A. and Jack G. bartended during the
week days doing a great job; thanks for your help. During the Slow Smoke
BBQ everyone pulled together to make it a success; Darla, Steve A. Jack G.
Mark M. Sco, Dennis F. my daughter Melissa, Brian, and my grandson Wil-
liam we all should give them a pat on the back when you see them. We
should have a dra> of the House Rules by next meeng, based on what we
have wrien in the past. John V. and I are puAng together the post bylaws
which will take some me. I have talked to the District Commander; I re-
ceived some guidance from them, and will put them together according to
the Naonal Bylaws. We have been working on job descripons for all offic-
ers and employees as well. It is really important for the future officers, and
members to have guidelines to follow, we all have worked too hard to fail
them. It is all of our responsibilies to hand them over a well-organized and
funconal post. The Men’s Auxiliary had some contractors come in to repair
the lighng and painted the meeng room, it looks great. It will all be togeth-
er for the next meengs. Have a great Summer and be safe, I hope to see
you all up at the Post soon. John Rizzo Commander

We have a lot of volunteers to thank for all their efforts over
the past month. . Jim D. Steve A., and John K. for the first
Sat. lunch in July with thanks to Theo for filling in at the BBQ
during our meeng. Fernando, Joe, and Brian provided the
burger burn on the second Sat. of the month. Thank you to
Marshall, Jack, Ab, Dave S., and Big John for your support at
our last meeng. The Men’s Aux has installed the new com-
mercial toaster in the kitchen. The meeng room should be
finished with new lighng, new textured lid, and fresh paint
that was approved. Hopefully, in the near future there will
be a few more improvements around our Post. The Men’s Aux. will serve lunch on Sat. 6 Aug
and Sat. 13 Aug from 11:00AM to 2:00PM. Carolyn and I will provide breakfast on Sunday 7 Aug
from 9:00 AM to 12:00PM. Our next monthly meeng will held the first Saturday in September
at 11:00AM. Don’t forget to buy a burger or a dog a>er the meeng to support our efforts for
our Post and our community. I wanted to repeat this important message from last month in
case you missed it. “The word has come down that the Men’s Aux. will no longer be recognized
by the District and Naonal organizaons. Thankfully our Post Officers will extend the deadline
for our group as we know it unl the next elecon cycle to make things fair for all. I plan to de-
lineate some of the changes and what to expect in the near future and beyond in this space as
long as I am allowed to contribute. One thing for sure, I encourage all current members to sub-
mit their new applicaons to the Auxiliary since there will be NO renewals going out for 2017.
The word also is that membership fees will go up considerably by the end of 2016 especially for
the life memberships. So, if you have any interest, get your applicaons in now.” Please keep
our acve service members that are in harm’s way in your thoughts and prayers as well as our
veterans that have sacrificed so much to protect our freedoms and the life we all enjoy. God
Bless America!

Auxiliary President’s Message
Hello comrades, sisters and brothers:
Our beloved Aux sister, Elvira, passed away July 24. She was our previous
treasurer, wife to Comrade Rick Storms. She was a beauful person, proud
wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. Please keep posive thoughts
for the family for their grieving. For our upcoming events, I am going to pro-
pose an event at our next meeng on Sat. Aug. 6 for a mid-August lunch social
to help generate monies for a fund raiser. I would like everyone to parcipate
in some way, either helping serve, cook, create or meet/greet. We can do
this! We have been chosen to host the August 23rd membership meeng at
our Post. We will be needing salads, sides and desserts for 70 people. A re-
minder to those who have not yet renewed membership: me is running out
for renewals, and the recommendaon is to convert to life since fees will be
increasing as of January 2017. This will include our brothers who may be con-
sidering the Auxiliary applicaon changes coming to their group as well. We
lost a total of 13 members and must start over. With everyone’s help, i.e. re-
newals, new and/or transfer apps, we hope to be back to 100% before the end
of the year. With everyone’s parcipaon for membership and other pro-
grams, we can be a very acve group as we always have been. For the August
meeng, we will need to replace our Guard posion as Bella has le> the San
Diego area due to her new job. Please give consideraon to someone who
you feel is qualified to cover Guard posion for the upcoming year. We will be
nominang and elecng this person at the meeng. I want to congratulate our
chaplain, Terri on her outstanding achievement and award for the rank of Inte-
grated Naonal Director for the group “Take Shape for Life”. As our chaplain,
I expect great things from her as an inspiraon for our Auxiliary! In closing,
keep posive thoughts for all of our comrades, brothers and sisters not only
here at our Post, but everywhere. If you come across a veteran in need,
please contribute something (me, money, food, assistance) to their well-
being. Yes that is what we as Auxiliary members do for veterans, and I would
like to know of the event to report it to our District and Department. They
care about what we do for our veterans. Happy summer..
RespecTully, Sheila Jo/President
CHAPLAIN’S MESSAGE
Let’s let I.R.M.A. be the acronym for the year to come, standing for: Integrity, Respect, Manners and
AAtude. We all should strive to beer understand ourselves and our comrades, to the end that our
relaonships here on Planet Earth be smoother. In other words, let’s try to remove peAness and
small-mindedness from our lives during 2015 and beyond.
Lord, may we be more tolerant and compassionate toward other human beings this new year. Help us
to strive for peace and good will amongst our friends, families and fellow veterans, thus creang a
more serene existence for all. AMEN.
Army Vietnam veteran and Post Life Member Charlie Howell was in a serious auto accident last week,
and is recovering at Sharp Hospital.
Lord, Almighty God, we pray for your healing grace in behalf of Charles Howell. May he know the bless-
ing of good health in this hour and throughout his life. Bless all who minister to Charles in body, mind
and spirit, and grant him a quick recovery from his recent injuries. AMEN.

Chaplain’s Message
In a TV ad for The Foundaon for a Beer Life [values.com], the narrator says: “Gratude. Pass it on”.
Think about it – how many opportunies have we had every day to express gratude to someone,
but the chance somehow slipped by unexpressed? We could have certainly brightened someone’s
day – be it a family member, friend, neighbor, casual acquaintance, or stranger – with a simple and
hearTelt “Thank you”! Surely we ourselves feel much beer when someone is thoughTul enough to
thank us for something posive that we’ve said or done. Not only that, but we should be grateful for
what we have, and not worry about what we don’t have.
Almighty and gracious Father, we give you thanks for the fruits of the earth in their season and for
the labors of those who harvest them. Make us, we beseech thee, faithful stewards of thy great boun-
ty, for the provision of our necessies and the relief of all who are in need, to the glory of thy name.
AMEN. [Anglican Prayer of Thanksgiving]

House Commi;ee Message
It was a very sad day Sunday, July 24, as we lost a longme friend and fellow member of our Post, Elv-
ira Storms. Our hearts and prayers go out to Rick and the family. The House Commiee along with our
Commander and Quartermaster are presently in the process of rewring our Canteen and House rules
along with our kitchen dues and responsibilies. We will also be bringing our By-Laws up to date to
conform to the Naonal By-Laws. We should have these changes in place by our next meeng at which
me they will be open for discussion and make any changes necessary. We are trying something new
starng next month. Fast Eddie has agreed to cook one Saturday a month starng August 6th. The
menu includes barbecued pork, chicken and ribs with all the fixings. We will have entertainment either
karaoke or a live band. The flyers are made up and we will be adversing locally to the public. We have
two (2) poker runs scheduled August 6th at 11am and 1pm which the Men’s Auxiliary will be hosng.
The Men’s and Ladies Auxiliary will be hosng POW/MIA Day on September 17th. If you would like to
volunteer to help, please contact Dave Verdugo. This event will be open to the public. Our Post is one
of if not the finest in San Diego or for that maer the State of California. Our Commander John Rizzo
and Quartermaster Carl Silva are greatly responsible for our achievements of this post for these past 5
years or more. I wish to thank them for their dedicaon and commitment. It is not easy running a VFW
post. We need the support of all our members, so please try to aend our monthly meengs and when
you see John and Carl give them a pat on the back and thank them for their service. John Vorburger
