23 Years of Leadership and Service

Viatorian Provincials "Back in the Trenches"_ Viatorian Fathers Edward Anderson, Kenneth Morris and Patrick Render are three former Provincials who continue to serve God's people and the Viatorian Community. The elected role of Provincial is to serve as "Pastor" for the entire Community.

Fr. Anderson taught high school at Spaulding Institute in Peoria, Illinois from 1956 to 1957; Cathedral Boys High School, Springfield, Illinois from 1957 to 1959, Alleman High School, Rock Island, Illinois 1959 to 1966, and was Principal at Bishop Gorman High School, Las Vegas, Nevada from 1966 to 1969. He was elected

Winter Retreat

Discerning Vocations __ Seven young adult men gathered in mid Winter for a vocation retreat at the Provincial Center in Arlington Heights, led by Vocation Director Brother Corey Brost, C.S. V. The men ranged in age from 18 to 22, and included college freshmen to a 1999 graduate with a degree in Theology. Three of the men came from the following Viatorian ministries: St. Thomas More Catholic Community in Henderson, Nevada; Holy Family Parish in Granite City, IL; and St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights, IL.

VIATOR is published quarterly by the Clerics of St. Viator, the Viatorians, for friends, families, parishioners and alumni of Viatorian apostolates.

The Clerics of St. Viator are religious priests and brothers sent by the Catholic Church to teach the Faith and proclaim Jesus Christ as Gospel. In parishes, schools, and a variety of other ministries Viatorians work with Christian communities to live, deepen and celebrate their faith.

Greetings and good wishes to you from the Viatorians. I

hope this issue of our Quarterly Newsletter finds you

Once again, it is my privilege to present to you our

Newsletter detailing some of the activities of the Viatorians in recent

months. You will be able to read about a number of young men who have

expressed interest in pursuing a religious vocation as a Viatorian and who

gathered at our Provincial Center in Arlington Heights in January. These

gatherings provide a genuine sense of hope for our future. I ask that you

keep them and all young people who are discerning God's call in their

lives in your regular prayers.

You will also see the wide-variety of Viatorian ministry and service that is

represented by Viatorians mentioned in our regional roundup. I know that

you will recognize some of their names and the work they are involved in.

In their name, I thank you for your support and ongoing loyalty to the

Clerics of St. Viator.

This season of spring always represents a time of new life and hope in the

life cycle of our world. I hope that the days of Lent have led you to

celebrate the great joy of Easter and the presence of the Risen Christ in

your lives and families. Please know that the Viatorians continue to be

grateful for your presence in our lives. May God's blessings and the joy

and hope of the Risen Christ be with each of you. My best wishes to you.

KANKAKEE/ BOURBONNAIS: Father Charles Bolser, Pastor of Maternity B.V.M. Parish in Bourbonnais recently attended a workshop entitled: "Preaching the languages of the Liturgy" which was held at the Notre Dame Center for Pastoral Liturgy. The program is designed to help enrich the proclamation and celebration of the Liturgy.

CHICAGO: Two Viatorian authors recently published articles. Brother Corey Brost wrote in VISION, a Religious Discernment Guide, "Brothers offer their presence in a world of need." Father Tom McMahon published an article in BUSINESS ETHICS QUARTERLY titled "Transforming Justice: a Conceptualization." He also authored a chapter in the new A COMPANION TO BUSINESS ETHICS Entitled "A Brief History of American Business Ethics."

SPRINGFIELD: Father Pat Cahill, Pastor of St. Jude Parish in Rochester, joins Brother Jim .. Lewnard in serving on the Diocesan Board of Catholic education for the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois. The Diocese also has a new Bishop with the ordination of Msgr. George Lucas in December.

LAS VEGAS: Father George Auger preached a parish mission at Guardian Angel Cathedral during the first week of Advent. The Saint Viator Parish School Drama Ministry continues spreading the Word and plans to close the school year with a play to tell the story of the Passion of Jesus in contemporary
