This collection represents mgr continuir4f interest in the grrical possibilities ofmallet instnrments e)q)ressed from an American compogitional point of view. Ihave also tried to state and develop materlat in zuch a nuulner a,s to provide thegrcat€st accessibility to the listener and to as many players as possible; partictr-lar\y, tJrose mwicians at tJre beglinnin€/intermediate lwel. The phrasing, e;mam-ics, and pedaling written in tlrese pleces are certainJ;r appropriate. However, Iwould strong\r sqggest each player develop and refine his or her sense of expres-sion to stdt tJreir need,s, requiremenB, and indlviduat r-rnderstanding!.
The relationship betnreen melodJr, Irarmorly and rhythm in this mr:sic is inte-gFal to a first'rate performance. I would ask ttre player to try and analSze, to ttrrebest of ttreir ability, the composer's intentlons in writing tJre piece.
Above al I , I hope you erlj oy playingl ttre collectlon. After years now a"s a published.composer, rr\y continued. gfratitude to all of the percussionists aror:nd the world.who play rq5r music.
