TYPES OF VICES
Graph showing the Frequency Distribution of the Vices of the population surveyed in
Barangay Anahaw II Silang, Cavite as of June 2013- March 2014.
The figure shows that 415 or 15.82% of the respondents in Barangay Anahaw II use recreational
behavioral vices. 95 or 3.62% admits to cigarette smoking use. 109 or 4.16 % admits to alcohol
use. 164 or 6.25 % admits that they use both cigarette smoking and alcohol. 47 or 1.79% admits
to illicit drug use and gambling.
95 or 3.62% of the respondents in Barangay Anahaw II admits to cigarette smoking. Cigarette
smoking increases the risk for many types of cancer, including cancers of the lip, oral cavity,
pharynx, esophagus, pancreas, larynx (voice box), lung, uterine cervix, urinary bladder, and
kidney. The risk of developing lung cancer is about 23 times higher among men who smoke
cigarettes and about 13 times higher among women who smoke cigarettes compared with never
smokers.
109 respondents or 4.16% of the survey group consume alcoholic beverages and 164 or 6.25 %
admits that they use both cigarette smoking and alcohol. Alcohol and tobacco use may lead to
major health risks when used alone and together. In addition to contributing to traumatic death
and injury (e.g., through car crashes), alcohol is associated with chronic liver disease, cancers,
cardiovascular disease, acute alcohol poisoning (i.e., alcohol toxicity), and fetal alcohol
syndrome. Smoking is associated with lung disease, cancers, and cardiovascular disease.
Additionally, a growing body of evidence suggests that these substances might be especially
dangerous when they are used together; when combined, alcohol and tobacco dramatically
increase the risk of certain cancers (cancer of the mouth and throat, liver cancer and
cardiovascular disease).
47 or 1.79% admits to illicit drug use and gambling but according to the barangay
officials and some residents in the barangay said that there is an increasing incidence of drug
using and pushing which really give major problem in the community. This needed validation
from the police and barangay records
