Summer Term Newsletter 11 10th July 2020
Value ~ Honesty
Hello from Mrs Rinttila
I’m delighted to be able to introduce myself as your new
Headteacher.
Over the past 14 years, I have taught in many different schools
across Surrey and in Kingston Upon Thames. Most recently, I have
been Assistant Headteacher at Goldsworth Primary School which
is part of our Trust, meaning I have been working closely with
Miss May and Mrs Bowry to make the transition as smooth as
possible – even in these unusual times.
Since I started school myself, as young as 4 or 5, I have always
wanted to become a Headteacher. It is such a privilege to begin
my dream job at St John’s. I am passionate about learning and we
will work together to help your children be the best they can be.
You will find me friendly and approachable and absolutely
determined to do the best for your children. Everyone at St
John’s has already been incredibly welcoming and made me feel
part of the family already; we are so lucky to be part of this
wonderful community.
I will be on the gates on Thursday and Friday next week (the 16th
and 17th) so please smile and say hello. Whilst it’s difficult to have
long conversations for now, I look forward to getting to know
each and every one of you in the Autumn term.
School Update
This week Mrs Rinttila, Mrs Bowry and I have been busy making plans for September. This includes the plans
for a staggered start and finish to the school day, our one way system and expectations around school
uniform and PE kit. We will be sending out as much information as possible with next week’s newsletter.
If, following further guidance from the DfE, any changes need to be made to our plans over the summer
holidays, this will be communicated to parents in the week beginning August 24th.
Year 5 home Learning Year 5 wrote Haiku Poems this week. "Haiku" is a traditional form of Japanese poetry. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines of a Haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme. Here are a few- can you guess what they are?
Peaceful, sunny day,
Munching on watermelon.
Soft breeze hits my toes.
Ivan
Hold me in your hand,
l am used to measure things,
My tongue rolls up fast.
Ryan
We are all locked in,
Outside corona roams free,
Free as the wind blows.
