the owners secret...
“You have the best of both worldshere as you can access everythingthat is fantastic about Brighton andHove on foot as you are so central, but once you’re inside, it is like atranquil oasis - you really don’t feellike you’re in the middle of thecity!”
This house really is a hidden gem, tucked away between the shops of WesternRoad and the grand houses of Regency Square. This sweet terrace must havebeen built for those who served these houses, and worked in the market gardenssurrounding them in the first half of the 19th Century. It remains a vibrant andcolourful community here, perfect for those who love the vibrancy of Brighton andHove, and the cool vibes of the beach in the summer.
This house has a classic Victorian frontage in cream with a royal blue dooropening into the entrance hall; painted in a soothing tonal palette, with theoriginal wide floorboards in slate grey. First on the left is the sweet living roomwhich is homely and snug, with a bay sash window, nicely adorned with customfitted blinds. The alcoves have ample storage and shelving for books, and takingcentre stage is the original cast iron fireplace, flanked by decorative tiles. Whilstthis is not open, it adds period character, as well as being a useful mantle.Further along the hall, it widens providing a wonderful space for a home office, which is both peaceful and light due to the south facing window in the stairwell. The bathroom is next on the left, and this again blends traditional styling withcontemporary design, and has a white suite complete with a rainfall shower above, wood panelling in dove grey, and white metro brick tiling.
Stairs take you down from the ground floor to the open plan kitchen and diningroom. This is well lit, even though it is lower ground, due to the glazed door andwindow opening to the south facing patio garden. You can easily dine out here asit becomes an extension of the room during the warmer months when it becomesa real suntrap. There are two solid structures in the gardens which are currentlyused to house tools and bikes etc. but could easily be transformed into an outsideoffice or summer house - food for thought? Inside, the room is spacious, withengineered oak flooring in honeyed tones, and ample space for a sofa as well as adining table and chairs. The kitchen area has sleek modern units in black below thesolid oak surfaces, and white on the walls to lift the space, and the appliances areall integrated to include a washer/dryer, a slimline dishwasher, an electric cookerand hob, plus a below counter fridge and freezer. This area feels visually separateas an arm of the kitchen interjects into the room, but this also makes it ultimatelysociable when entertaining.
Returning upstairs, a further flight of stairs takes you up to the bedrooms. They areboth fine doubles, with the rear bedroom being just a shade smaller, and with astylish decor in mustard and grey. It has two built in cupboards, and woodenfloors, plus a double glazed sash window for added warmth and quiet. The masterbedroom spans the width of the house to the front, and has a bay window tomirror the living room. There is space for freestanding wardrobes as well as for akingsize bed without compromising on floorspace, and another feature fireplaceadds interest.
This is a gorgeous seaside home, which has been lovingly looked after by itscurrent owners who clearly have a keen eye for colour and style, so you can movestraight in with ease.
