Oliver emerges as a shadowy, unrealized figure
Oliver twist’s mother dies after the birth of her child in work house.
Doctor notices that she was not wearing a wedding ring.
The infant’s father is unknown , and the orphan is placed in private juvenile.
Oliver is brought up at a “child farm” in his country until he is about eight years old.
Oliver’s name is important marker of his identityWhen Oliver is born, the narrator tells us that….he could be
anybody. “the child of nobleman or a begger”
There is constant struggle in the novel between the imposed and exterior identity that the parish authorities want to press on him.
Mr. Bumble chooses the name “Oliver twist”.
His name is assigned by the outside source.
Parish official running the child farm decide to send him back to house for working.
At workhouse he commits the unpardonable attempt of asking for more food .
He was punished and parish decides to send him with coffin-maker
At the coffin-maker’s shop he isn’t treated much better than he was at the workhouse. After being abused oliver decides to set out for London foot.
Here he meet with odd-looking young man named Artful Donger.
Donger who gave him place to stay.
Old gentleman Fagin, trains kid to be pickpocekts, oliver sees the pair steals the pocket handkerchief out of old man’s poket.
Brownlow takes Oliver home and cares for him until he is well, but fagin and others are worried that Oliver will rate them out of police.
The little boy becomes victim of criminal. Fagin keeps oliver shut up in a dreary old house for weeks
How long can nine years old child hold out ?
How does oliver escape from corruption ?
Oliver raised in corrupt society, his purity and virtue are absolute. He just make his virtue shiner.
Whenever he is abused and manipulated, oliver does not become angry.
Oliver is the hero of the novel, but he is also a child and child can’t always act for himself.
Oliver’s harsh and repressive upbringing have made him yeilding and wanting place.
Environment in which he is raised makes him unnatural child.
Oliver’s maturity is very high, he understands the situation because his maturity is difference from other child.
