video production in the cloud for live streaming
TRANSCRIPT
Is Video Production in the Cloud the next big thing in Saas & Live Streaming?Understanding the benefits of cloud based video production
Presentation OverviewIn this presentation, we will review the latest SaaS video production solutions from EasyLive and take a look at the approach industry leaders such as TeraDek, NewTek and vMix have approached IP based video production.
Definition of “Live Streaming”If you search wikipedia for “live streaming” you are directed to “Streaming Media” described as audio visual media presented to an end user while being delivered by a provider
Streaming media is multimedia that is constantly received by and presented to an end-user while being delivered by a provider

Definition of a “SaaS”Software as a service (SaaS; pronounced /sæs/) is a software licensing and delivery model in which software is licensed on a subscription basis and is centrally hosted. It is sometimes referred to as "on-demand software". SaaS is typically accessed by users using a thin client via a web browser.

Why would I want use video productions in the
cloud?
Let’s watch our review video on the next slide...
One other question.. I understand that there is device specific software to convert video to RTMP (i.e. VMIX, Wirecast, Wirecast go) but is there a cloud based option where I could stream regular video to a cloud based server to do this conversion?

The Question we want to answer...
Let’s look at EasyLive firstThe ONLY solution I have found built from the cloud up….
Feature 1: Web Based Interface
Easy to access, cloud based interface. Your entire production can be managed from a regular web browser from anywhere in the world.
Imagine the possibilities...
Teams from around the world can access a live video production with detailed access levels and reporting for management.

Feature 2: Overlays and Titles
The overlay capabilities for video production are what you would expect. The main benefit is sharing the capabilities with any user around the world.
Feature 3: Live Preview & Output
Just like professional video production software. You can work on your layout in preview before you make your changes live.
Feature 4: Instant recordings/publishing
Instant recordings can be made and saved to cloud… Even more interesting is the ability to publish video directly to your social media accounts instantly.
Feature 5: Video asset management
Complete control over recorded/uploaded videos. This includes a clip editor and playlist management all in the cloud! Apparently, the $39/month membership includes unlimited storage… (may change in the future)
Feature 6: Workflow management and redundancy
This feature is unique to cloud based video production. The ability to replace a main live stream in the event of an emergency with a back-up. This simply can’t be done with current hardware available on the market.
EasyLive Pricing is $39/month &
$.15/minute of streaming
When does cloud based video production make sense?
Pricing DetailsGoEasyLive - Includes 1 year subscription ($399) and $.15/minute fee.
Teradek - Includes 1 year subscription and one Teradek Vidu ($499).
vMix & Wirecast - Includes license for streaming but not PC/hardware
TriCaster Mini - Includes complete license and hardware package
Now businesses can get into professional live streaming at extremely low budgets with
almost zero upfront investment!
At roughly 40-50 hours of streaming GoEasyLive = the cost of vMix/Wirecast
Rough pricing from GoEasyLive and public pricing from vMix, Wirecast, Teradek and NewTek
What’s even better? You can now stream directly off PTZOptics cameras to places like YouTube Live, Facebook and EasyLive!
Facebook, Youtube, EasyLive and More...
The more hours you live stream the more likely you will save money using hardware...

Initial comments about the pricing after our live show...
At 500 hours of streaming GoEasyLive = the cost of a TriCaster Mini

How Much Streaming do you plan to do?
1 Hours Per Week = 52 Hours Per Year
2 Hours Per Week = 102 Hours Per Year
5 Hours Per Week = 260 Hours Per Year
10 Hours Per Week = 520 Hours Per Year
25 Hours Per Week = 1300 Hours Per Year
50 Hours Per Week = 2,600 Hours Per Year

A look at the live streaming market
As live streaming becomes more accessible and affordable the market will enter the early majority. Some say that the current USA market has already entered the early majority.
What about multiple cameras? Will this triple my bandwidth?
When using multiple cameras EasyLive suggests the use of a video production software as a front-end switcher. While you can stream directly off each camera you can save bandwidth using a switcher.

Let’s look at xSplit & OBS
xSplit is an extremely easy to use video production software that starts at just $5/month!
These super affordable live streaming solutions can be used with EasyLive as front-end encoders...
Open Broadcast Software is completely free. With new plugins coming out all the time this software can get quite a lot done on a small budget.
Industries most popular streaming platforms
The industries most popular live streaming solutions are all hardware based in the sense that they require some type of hardware connected to the network in order to live stream to a CDN (Content Delivery Network). The benefits of a hardware solution are many… Local support for audio and video connections is the primary benefits along with long term investment savings from ownership. These solutions can be used with cloud based solutions such as EasyLive as a front-end delivery platform to provide camera switching and advanced video production capabilities. Allowing EasyLive to provide distribution to multiple CDNs, integration with cloud based networks and adding secure redundancy for mission critical live streams.
Let’s look at the rest of the market starting with the the NewTek NDI
NewTek NDI
1. Ultra-low latency live streaming protocol announced at NAB 2016
2. Now in use with over 1 million live stream productions!
3. Most likely winner of “low latency streaming standard” in the broadcast industry
NewTek NDI
Connecting IP based workflows in the most advanced live streaming and broadcast applications.
Watch our live recording about “NewTek NDI Playbook” to learn more about how this technology is being integrated in almost every major market vertical!
SIENNA NDI
SEINNA NDI provides the ability to extend the NewTek NDI protocol over the WAN or public internet!
Pricing we should expect is roughly $50/month. Mark Gilbert CTO mentioned on our live show that a BETA is ready and early 2017 release is expected.
TeraDek Core
The Teradek core is a new cloud based management system for live streamers using Teradek encoders.
You must have Teradek encoders to use this product!
Teradek Core Features1. Stream to multiple online video platforms at the same
time2. Video archive and management3. IP routing and configuration4. Integration with “Live Air” allowing video production
from Smart Phones
These features allow broadcasters to remotely deploy Teradek encoders anywhere in the world and manage their broadcast from a remote studio. I can’t wait to interview Jon and show off this amazing product!
Teradek Core Pricing
Keep in mind hardware encoders are required for each device used with the Teradek Core.
This product is really a cloud based video management platform for Teradek customers...

Conclusion
-I think cloud based video production is 1 years out from changing the entire industry the way we saw it happen in video conferencing… -EasyLive seems to be leading the pack with their SaaS platform.
Conclusion Continued
Even though Skype and GoToMeeting have been out for 10 + years it took a long time for SaaS (Software as a Service) video conferencing to outpace the hardware solutions on the market. The biggest trend we are seeing is “build your own” live streaming computers and complete systems. There are so many DIY projects going on where the tech guys want to get their hands dirty.
