IP D i rec tor i s a su i te o f so f tware app l ica t ions des igned to enhance the work f low o f a Te lev is ion product ion.

In combina t ion w i th EVS XT ser ies Servers , IP D i rec to r can u t i l i ze i ts appl ica t ions to both cont ro l mu l t ip le channels w i th in the XNet network and a lso add comprehens ive logg ing fea tures and database func t iona l i t y . Th is p rov ides brows ing capabi l i t y and product ion or ienta ted asset management to inc rease the e f f i c iency o f any Broadcast Opera t ion .

There are ten appl icat ions des igned for use on a produc t ion. Each is in tegra ted in to the overa l l package and is accessed by ins ta l led so f tware l i censes. Each o f the appl icat ions can be used to per fo rm d i f fe rent tasks . Th is cou ld be in the form of mul t ip le record ings of d i f feren t events w i th in a s tud io env i ronment . Th is can be complemented w i th the logg ing sys tem to assoc ia te da ta w i th each record ing, compi l ing med ia f rom the da tabase for inc lus ion in an ed i ted package. The IP D i rec tor su i te a lso a l lows the p layback of severa l comple ted e lements to mul t ip le sources such as b ig screens , key and f i l l sw i tcher e f fec ts , and s tud io p lay- in .

Each IP D i rec tor sys tem can func t ion as a s tandalone works ta t ion prov id ing a l l app l icat ions on a product ion , o r severa l works ta t ions can be used, runn ing on ly the app l icat ions requi red for a spec i f ic task and each works ta t ion can be connected v ia E thernet w i th a cent ra l Database. When networked together , IP D i rec to r Database in fo rmat ion is ava i lab le to a l l o ther works ta t ions tha t a re be ing used in o ther areas of the product ion and enhances the overa l l produc t ion work f low.

IP D i rector can cont ro l channe ls o f severa l XT servers . Each works ta t ion sees the XNet ne twork as one large server whose s to rage is d iv ided in to var ious vo lumes access ib le by any channel f rom any XT w i th in the XNet ne twork .

In the D iagram be low, d i f fe rent areas o f the produc t ion work f low are ident i f ied :

Convent iona l ly , in a s imp le show a record ing is made, logged on paper sheets and then ed i ted or p layed in to the f ina l product ion or to A i r , mak ing re ference to the logs . The des i red med ia wi l l then be arch ived, genera l ly by compi l ing on to a new tape and a new log is c rea ted to match the new record ing.

The d iagram be low shows which appl ica t ion w i th in IP D i rec tor i s des igned to ass is t in each s tage of the work f low, not on ly to p roduce an in tegrated database w i th v ideo, aud io , and t ime code in format ion for each c l ip c reated , and a lso a l l metadata assoc ia ted w i th that c l ip such as : name, keywords, descr ip t ion, c reat ion da te , or ig ina l loca t ion (server s /n , c l ip pos i t ion , e tc) , bu t a lso to cont ro l the ingest , man ipu la t ion and p lay ou t o f the med ia .

1.1 PRODUCTION APPLICATIONS

1.1.1 CHANNEL EXPLORER Channel Exp lo rer g ives a comprehens ive overv iew o f the en t i re XNet ne twork . XT servers , XFi le , XStore and VTR dev ices appear as ind iv idua l i tems in the Channe l Exp lo rer , w i th expandable nodes fo r servers in which the IP D i rec tor sys tems and the VTR are d i rec t l y connected v ia RS422.

From wi th in the Channe l Exp lorer w indow, any IP D i rec tor works ta t ion can take cont ro l o f one or severa l channe ls f rom d i f feren t XT servers connected on the XNet . When cont ro l has been taken, the se lec ted channe ls can a lso be locked.

The f lex ib i l i t y o f IP D i rec tor a l lows mul t ip le channels to be managed together in a var ie ty o f methods:

• Ganged channe ls o Al lowing s imul taneous cont ro l o f many channe ls f rom

one cont ro l panel ( recorders or p layers )

• Key and f i l l o Al lowing 2 c l ips to be l inked in a F i l l /Key pa i r ing fo r

These mul t ip le p layback modes can be used bo th on c l ips to o f fe r a comprehens ive range o f operat iona l p layback modes.

1.1.2 IP LOGGER A log o f recorded mater ia l i s essent ia l to the produc t ion process; by us ing IP Logger the speed o f opera t ions is enhanced by au tomat ica l ly assoc ia t ing logg ing da ta to conten t on the XNet ne twork o f servers . I t can rep lace the t rad i t iona l paper log sheet (wh ich produces manua l t imecode and descr ip t ions) w i th a sys tem that automat ica l l y l inks a logg ing en t ry to a l l re levant med ia c reated on XT servers .

The IP logger prov ides an easy way to add descr ip t i ve data to the med ia and cent ra l ize logg ing da ta . Us ing the IP Logger w izard, a log sheet can be crea ted based on spec i f i c product ion requi rements .

The log sheet i s c rea ted by captur ing the t imecode of impor tan t events , and then eas i ly add ing keywords us ing cus tomised keyword gr ids , descr ip t ions en tered on the keyboard manua l ly , and a leve l ra t ing.

Any c l ip present on the XNet ne twork wh ich inc ludes the t imecode o f logged events , and is made f rom a record t ra in that has been def ined as re levant to the cur ren t log en t ry is then au tomat ica l ly l inked to the cor responding en t ry in the log sheet . Th is e f fec t ive ly l inks the media on the XNet ne twork to a work f low that is f r iend ly to a producer or ed i tor .

IP Logger a lso fea tures the capab i l i t ies to rev iew and edi t con tent o f the log sheet a t any t ime dur ing or a f te r the event . By l ink ing a p lay channel f rom an XT server , the opera tor has a s imple and f lex ib le way to re f ine logg ing in format ion captured dur ing the l ive event .

Compared to convent iona l logg ing techniques, IP Logger has s ign i f ican t t ime-sav ing benef i ts , and sav ing t ime is a lways c r i t ica l in l i ve product ion . By produc ing accurate logs, and prov id ing an e f f i c ien t search engine , in format ion is ava i lab le fas ter to a l l EVS XNet users for browsing , ed i t ing and arch iv ing. Logs can be accessed by o ther users even wh i le they are be ing generated , and XT media assoc ia ted w i th the log can be cued and used ins tant ly .

1.1.3 DATABASE EXPLORER Database Explorer d isp lays and manages c l ips , p lay- l is ts , b ins and logs for the med ia ava i lab le on the EVS XNet ne twork .

Clips & Play-Lists

Cl ips and Play-L is ts crea ted on XT servers are synchron ised to the IP D i rector cent ra l da tabase and can be browsed f rom th is w indow.

Bins & Logs

Bins and Logs are deta i l s on ly present on the IP D i rec tor sys tems, and add improved methods fo r assoc ia t ing c l ips and o ther deta i ls to the user . These sect ions are not d i rec t ly v is ib le on XT servers , but the resu l ts o f these func t ions can af fec t c l ips on the XNet ne twork benef ic ia l l y .
